Kerry: Obama’s race will help bridge the divide with the Middle East

The latest in a continuing series in which Obama’s supporters pretend to be outraged at Geraldine Ferraro for suggesting that his race is in some ways a political asset while happily acknowledging that fact when talking amongst themselves. NBC goes so far as to characterize Waffles’s soliloquy here as an argument that “Obama’s skin makes him uniquely qualified for president.” There’s nothing left to say after Kaus’s and, especially, Tom Maguire’s posts on this subject, but do note how closely Kerry’s “logic” here tracks Excitable Andy’s in the passage quoted by both. Exit question: Given the fact that the worst jihadist invective is reserved for Musharraf, Karzai, Abbas and other dark-skinned, ethnically Middle Eastern “traitors,” why is Kerry so sure that Obama won’t be viewed similarly as having somehow “betrayed” Somalia and Sudan by aligning himself with the Great Satan? We’ve had a black man and then a black woman as our chief diplomatic officer for the past seven years. Has that fact in itself brought us any major gains vis-a-vis Islamic relations?

It sounds like some people think he is at least sympathetic to Islam.

Is another Democrat saying that Obama is a Muslim? Can’t these clowns get their talking points straight?

Talk to those countries? No kidding, that is all we have to do? Man, what were we thinking. Maybe Osama and Bush should just go on Oprah.

Hmmm…. accordinig to Islamic law, to become a Muslim all you have to do is ONCE state saying which is taught daily at Madrassas throughout the world… That whole Mohamed is his prophet thing… which I won’t write, cause I don’t want to become Muslim (LOL)…
Obama went to a Madrasa.
Once you are Muslim, if you change your religion, you are an apostate.
Apostates are killed under Islamic law…
So, tell me again how the Mid East is going to look at this?

j0 on March 20, 2008 at 12:18 PM
Of course, Obama is sympathetic to Muslims. He was born to a Muslim father. His brother is a Muslim. And guess what Jeremiah Wright’s area of “expertise” is?
Jeremiah Wright
“Then there’s July 8. In his “Pastor’s Pages” at Page 9, the Rev. Wright helpfully introduces an article on “Progressive Muslims” by one Omid Safi by telling us (bold is mine; pictured here):
Most of our members do not know that my Master’s Degree from the University of Chicago’s Divinity School was in the area of Islam in West Africa during the 19th Century — when the trans-Atlantic Slave Trade was at its zenith. Islam has as many manifestations as Christianity and Judaism, but most Americans are only fed a media diet on Islam as it relates to the “war on terror” and the Palestinian muslim problem in the “state” of Israel.
The quote marks are the Rev. Wright’s, not mine.”
~ from BizzyBlog
Have I ever said how much Kerry nauseates me? It is not “our side” that has damaged America. It is his side. He and his ilk have gone out of their way to denigrate this country abroad. Obama will simply continue to do the same.
Connie on March 20, 2008 at 12:18 PM
Kerry’s been sucking down too many jars of Heinz ketchup. When will he be voted out?
geminicontender on March 20, 2008 at 12:19 PM
Here is a joke from 2004: A horse goes up to John Kerry and says: “Why the long face?”
On a more serious note, Kerry is even more foolish than I thought. Kerry argues that if only America has an African-American in a high government position, the Arab world and the Muslim world will immediately reject Ben Laden and will embrace America. Apparently Kerry is unaware that the last two secretaries of state, namely Colin Powell and Condi Rice are both African-American. (Or maybe Obama and Kerry will insist that neither Powell or Rice is authentically Black). Yet despite having two African-American Secretaries of State, the Muslim world has become even more extremist. I just can see it now: Hamas leaer Haniyeh and Hezbollah leader Nasrallah are sitting there together plotting how to murder even more civilians. Suddenly, Haniyeh says to Nasrallah: “Hey Hassan, Did you know that Obama is the new president?” Then Haniyeh and Nasrallah put in a call to Osama over there in Pakistan and they all break out into a chorus of “Cumbaya” and “We shall overcome” and suddenly there is no terrorism in the world. The Messiah (a.k.a. Barack Obama) has done it again. Kerry is such a fool it defies belief.
BTW, if anyone wants to read something pathetic, check out Tim Ruttens column in the LA Times. Rutten actually said he wonders whether we are good enough for Barack Obma. Rutten wonders aloud if we deserve Obama because we are so racist and Obama is so pure of heart.
Larraby on March 20, 2008 at 12:19 PM
Just think, that damn moron almost became POTUS. Our electorate is turning to $h1t right before our very eyes.
After McCain grants Amnesty to millions of more gullable democratic dupes, the gig will be up and we will rightfully join the ranks of the rest of the turd world.
saiga on March 20, 2008 at 12:20 PM
It strikes me that those of us who are Republicans who do not support Obama, do not support him because of his ideas, and lack of experience.
And, on the Left, much of the reason he is valued it not because of his ideas or experience – it is because he is black.
Now, which of those is more demeaning?
Doesn’t it seem that to value a candidate because of his race, and what it might get us with the world, is incredibly, but seemingly ignorably, racist?
nailinmyeye on March 20, 2008 at 12:21 PM
The Left wants nothing more than a token president.
James on March 20, 2008 at 12:22 PM
If anything, isn’t Obama arguably an apostate for having been “born” Islamic then becoming Christian? If nothing else his theological past seems a bit hazy. If he should be perceived as an apostate, that would make him the scum of the earth from a Koranic perspective–far worse than any simple infidel like George Bush or John McCain.
Blacklake on March 20, 2008 at 12:27 PM
Once McCain grants amnesty, that fool Geraldo will represent the new Joe six pack. It will be interesting to see if the American sheeple will just lay back and take it in stride.

So good to see that Botox Rex The Ketchup King can still sling the B.S. as well as anyone in D.C. can.
So he thinks B.O. is such a great speaker that he can just talk to some of the crazies and bloodthirsty loonies that are running around out there and get them to see things his way, huh?
That is like having a missionary speak to a tribe of cannibals about the healthy benefits of a vegetarian diet. Long before the missionary is done talking, the tribe will have finished filing their teeth and will be getting ready for the barbecue.
pilamaye on March 20, 2008 at 12:55 PM
Interviewer: “What gives him credibility?”
John Kerry: “Because he’s African American, he’s a black man”
Huh? Didn’t they just take offense at Ferarro for saying that?
In the first 20 seconds he says Obama will have the ability to talk to middleeastern country leader because he is black. I seem to remember the monkey pictures of Ms. Rice showing how highly these countries hold people of color.
Alden Pyle on March 20, 2008 at 12:59 PM

Kerry’s obviously given this a lot of thought. He saw the picture of Obama in the Osama outfit and figured, “there’s a guy those people in the Middle East will listen to. He looks just like ‘em.”

Kerry is one of those insular racist liberals who thinks he’s “enlightened” because of the letter next to his name.
The short version of this is:
Kerry: Obama will be seen by Arabs as “one of them.”
Everyone else: But Obama’s not an Arab.
Kerry: They’re both brown, what’s the difference?
It’s insulting and ignorant, and it will be excused by the MSM because Kerry is a Dem and he’s supporting their Messiah.
Merovign on March 20, 2008 at 1:21 PM

An interesting point is that the Dems want it both ways; they say Bee Ho will be able to talk to Arabs, but they say it’s wrong to use his middle name. Which one is it?

Have you listened to his paster lately?
There is no disenfranchisement in the Muslim world. There is no class envy. There is no frustration. There is only Islam and the infidels that get in it’s way.
Kerry is intellectually and morally dishonest. This class envy argument Kerry touts is a liberal democrat talking point of view. It is not Islam.

There is one word that demolishes Kerry’s thesis right off the bat: Darfur. Of course, none of the dummies at the Florida newspaper interviewing Kerry knew enough to challenge Kerry. Kerry says if we have a Black president, it will matter so much to Arab Muslims that the Muslim terrorists will disarm and enter a loving relationship with the West. What does he think is happening in Sudan and in particular in Darfur? There, Arab Muslims are murdering Black African Christians by the thousands. The worst prejudice in the world is that of northern African Arab Muslims toward Black African Christians. Does Kerry think this will all change when America elects an “authentically Black” president? Gosh this man is a dummy. Granted, the New York Times told us over and over again in 2004 that John Kerry has the most incredible intelligence but good gosh is this guy a dummy. Hey John, Just go back to throwing your medals (undeserved anyway) over the bridge.
Larraby on March 20, 2008 at 2:41 PM
I heard this second-hand, so…
I think it was Thomas Sowell who referred to this global debate on Islam (and among the Democrats) as “Dueling Chamberlains.”
Indeed, these bad dudes don’t do deals. The Iraqi citizens didn’t really stand up for themselves until they realized they could, also that they should help the calvary defeat the bad dudes. The Dems (as per Kerry) prefer to be cheerleading from a safe distance, like Okinawa and Washington.

Yes, I’m sure the Arab muslims would listen to Obama. They have so much respect for black Africans. In fact, the Arabic word for slave is also the Arabic word for black. This shows their sympathy for the plight of their black slave like those in Dafur.
