Canada counterterrorism center plans found in garbage
posted at 5:00 pm on March 20, 2008 by Ed Morrissey
The Canadian government has some explaining to do over a security breach regarding their new counterterrorism center. Blueprints for the facility wound up in the garbage, some of which were rescued by an Ottawa citizen on a stroll. Six files have yet to be found:
Canada will probe how blueprints for the new headquarters of an elite military counter-terrorism unit ended up in a pile of garbage, Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day said Thursday.
The Canadian Joint Incident Response Unit, housed inside an armed forces base in Trenton, Ontario, is designed to cope with the aftermath of an attack using weapons of mass destruction. …
The plans — which the passer-by handed to the Ottawa Citizen newspaper — contain detailed drawings of the building’s floor plan, electrical grid and the storage bay for robots designed to detect chemical and biological agents.
One has to imagine that the housecleaning will begin shortly in Canada, and a few rear ends might join the blueprints on the trashheap by tomorrow. Canada, like the US and every other nation, has specific handling procedures for classified material. Either someone forgot to mark the blueprints properly or someone mishandled them despite their classification — and building plans for secure facilities have at least the same level of classification as the work projected to occur inside of them.
We’ve had our share of these incidents in the US as well. Having worked inside secure facilities in my (distant) past, I’m pretty sure I know how Canadian authorities will react. Anyone who had any sort of connection to these prints will get interrogated thoroughly, and probably everyone involved will either get fired or have their access levels downgraded significantly, at least for a while. And if Canada can’t account for the rest of the blueprints, they may have to consider redesigning their center to make the missing plans obsolete.

Yeah, but don’t worry, I am sure that any Muslim on staff will be ignored/not questioned out of fear for being ‘racist’ (even though a religion is not a race).
All those Christians/Atheists/Jews/etc will be properly punished though for sure.

The Canadian government has some explaining to do…
Explaining to who? Nobody up there cares about that shit. The average Canadian doesn’t even know they have intelligence services. No one cares about anything but ice hockey, back bacon and Labatts beer.
May as well have been plans to an embassy in Iraq, or something…

I can see the officals gathering together to explain this mess to the public. They start by singing, ” Oh, I’m a lumberjack , and I’m okay…..” Sorry after reading this post , it just popped into my head.

Thank God the citizen didn’t turn them over to the New York Times, they would be printing them tomorrow.

Is every major Western nation except the USA turning into a frakking joke?

I’d prefer to be more sinister. The guy found them just after the “Drop” but before the “Pickup”. Then again, Occam’s razor says “stupidity”.
eeyore on March 20, 2008 at 5:22 PM
Yes, every one of them. Except the US, of course.
BTW, when did Canada become a “major” western nation?
Watchman on March 20, 2008 at 5:24 PM
To answer your question, yes. And we are not too far behind them either.

Need I say more?
It tells you everything about how Canada has joined Europe in opening its borders to terrorists, how like Europe, it is losing its sovereignty and way of life by surrendering to its Muslim population.
Building plans were found in the garbage.
Not really.
Sovereignty and Nationalism are in the garbage.

Canada is a ‘G-8′ nation larger than the USA with a ridiculous amount of discovered and undiscovered natural resources. That makes them “major Western”
They’ve elected a ‘Progressive Conservative’ govt but the bureaucracy and adacemia and media are……..hopeless

Canada became a G7 nation as a personal favor from Reagan to Mulroney. There are quite a few nations with bigger economies than Canada that aren’t members.

uhhhhhhh, did you miss “Western” and the part about the resources? And did you have a point, or do you just like wanking?
The cold weather should make them sensible; they were sensible until 1968 or so; but for 40 years, a long chilly slide into absurd irrelevance

There’s nothing wrong with being Canadian and speaking either French or English because the fact that being Canadian by itself is telling.
I’m an American and I speak French, it doesn’t make me a coward French Canadian or French or Swiss or Luxembourger or Belgian.
Language has nothing to do with personality, not that I know of.
But you’re right, they don’t care about their security, it’s surrender time.
Indy Conservative on March 20, 2008 at 6:39 PM
Listen “2Tru2Tru”, you appear to know zero about Canada. The Leftist zealots and French surrender-monkeys live in EASTERN CANADA!
We in the West are the ones who supply you with cheap oil and natural gas, along with clean drinking water to your Norther States. We are 95% Conservative (not your Southern Baptist kind) and wanted to have Fred or Mitt running your country.
Your choices this year (McCain/Obama/Clinton) are a joke compared to Harper, so don’t crow too loud.

My good friend Tasha Kheiriddin will most likely be put in charge of the new unit. Her work in Quebec has gone rather spectacular and Stephen Harper used her manual to save Canada from the likes of Paul Martin and the Libranos.
Rumor has it she hates traitors, leakers and fiberals equally. This is going to get goooooddddd!!!!! YEE-HAW!!!
