Video: Gingrich lowers the boom on Obama

Nothing here you haven’t heard before, for the simple reason that even a third-grader can grasp the basic issue. Obama’s a craven liar who tolerated racism for years and then suddenly decided it was intolerable, not when he first started running for president but when ABC News finally crammed this verbal feces down his gullet, thereby warranting an “historic,” ass-saving speech to preserve his candidacy. Liberals are only too happy to believe it’s all part of his grand strategy to heal America by accruing power to himself. Gingrich thinks otherwise. Why? Because he’s a racist, silly, that’s why.

Take it from an expert.

Newt is absolutely right on target with his analysis of this speech, as well as his definition of an average politician.
The only words Newt left out; Obama is nothing other than a media creation, an empty suit.
Keemo on March 18, 2008 at 8:49 PM
The audacity of unctuousness.

Newt’s asking the questions the MSM should be asking.

I think this episode marks the beginning of the end of Obamamania. Stick a fork in him. He’s done.
Zorro on March 18, 2008 at 8:53 PM
I so sincerely would like to see a single person on whom Newt’s bs actually works. Not as in “I would hate Obama regardless but I will now pretend like there was anything Obama could have done to change my opinion”, but as in “I was sitting on the fence. But I think Newt has a point. Before you talk to Ahmadinejad, you gotta challenge your pastor on every topic where he’s wrong. Like, Dubbya’s pastor was perfect or else Dubbya would straighten him out.”

I also condemn Gingrich for his “Real Change” title of his new book. Bandwaggoner. Show some originality Newt.
THE CHOSEN ONE on March 18, 2008 at 8:59 PM
That isn’t his point. His point is that if you’re running for public office based solely on your character that you had better make damn sure you’re not a fraud. What does Bush have to do with this?
blankminde on March 18, 2008 at 9:01 PM
Wow Im sure glad Obama ran race relation have really taken a turn.
We need healing after the Obama candidacy ends because he brought the pain to the forefront.

Typical liberal dodge
Obama has a racist pastor. Bush has a Pastor. Therefore its all Bush’s fault.
William Amos on March 18, 2008 at 9:02 PM
Freevillage,
Are you serious? Did Bush’s pastor claim that the government created AIDs to commit genocide on blacks? Did he claim that 9/11 was America’s “chickens coming home ot roost”? Di his pastor claim any of this garbage? Did he say we should G-D America? Does W’s pastor think Hiroshima and Nagasaki were wrong?
More importantly, does Obama?
The Opinionator on March 18, 2008 at 9:02 PM
This speech was nothing more than an amplifier. If you support Obama, your support has been amplified. If you think he’s a fraud, your opinion was amplified by his speech.
Show me a single person who changed their stance on Obama based on this speech.
cannonball on March 18, 2008 at 9:03 PM
Obama has now succeeded in making me hate him.
He lacked the moral courage to stop this hate speech, and now wants to fly Air Force One to Tehran.
What next? Concentration camps in America? Israel nuked? Who knows with this nutter?
HotAirJosef on March 18, 2008 at 9:03 PM
Did George Bush have his pastor on his campaign committee? I don’t seem to recall that.
Are you suggesting that a sitting US Senator not question the words that Wright spews?
AP summed it up, Obama didn’t see anything wrong with the words until he was made to answer for them..
Pam on March 18, 2008 at 9:04 PM
Absurd
This episode was a face saving event by Obama. To think that there is even the possibilty anyone new might be swayed over to his side because of this really displays that you are unhinged.
Resolute on March 18, 2008 at 9:05 PM
True. How do you have an open conversation with someone that isn’t even debating honestly? I imagine that the core of liberalism is just as different from the liberals we see in politics as the core of conservatism is from the conservatives we see. I know I haven’t seen many people claiming they’re conservative that I agree with, but is it the same for liberals? We need a uniter, but all we got was a racist liar.
blankminde on March 18, 2008 at 9:07 PM
I’m listening to Newt’s second thoughts now on H&C. I’m relieved to hear you guys. Was thinking I was in left field.
Barry opened a can of worms this afternoon. There are enough worms in this can to catch fish for years to come.
petefrt on March 18, 2008 at 9:08 PM
Precisely the point. Newt has not the moral authority to harangue on “core character issue”, but he’s spot on.
20 years in the pew is complicity with the message plain and simple. You didn’t find it offensive enough to leave, or at least speak out? And you didn’t say jack until it was shoved in your face.
It’s a lengthier version of the “bonehead” defense.

That’s the whole point of ‘moral equivalence’ when a liberal speaks. They start talking and..”Hey look, see the Wookie!”, then its all the same. What Obama, Clinton, … did is no worse than what the ‘chimp in the Whitehouse’ did.
Irrelevant and dishonest.
belad on March 18, 2008 at 9:14 PM
What do you mean “a fraud”? You seriously believe he’s a racist? I don’t believe he is. I think his pastor is wacky in many respects but I also totally believe the two minutes of his sermons that we’re hearing over and over aren’t ALL that he’s been talking about for 30 years. Or else we would have way more than 2 minutes.
I have donated a car to an organization that has thought and is still thinking I should burn in hell for eternity. That’s kinda offensive but I’m willing to overlook it since the name of the organization is Salvation Army and they do a lot of good stuff. I don’t see why this Church could not be doing some good stuff for their community.
I don’t think it’s unfair to point out the crazy stuff. But calling Obama racist? I’m sorry. This is stupid. It’s obviously false. But we’ll see if this line of attack will work. After Dubbya’s attacks on McCain in SC I realiza that there’re no standards.
freevillage on March 18, 2008 at 9:16 PM
I was literally shocked to overhear a black woman in Houston today discussing this on her cell phone and basically ticking off Newt’s talking points here. I know nothing about where she stood before, but I think there’s a possibility that this is really deep crap for Barry.
Also also, I think (hope) that this ends the honeymoon with potential independent voters. That’s the big potential upside for the GOP in all this.
TexasDan on March 18, 2008 at 9:17 PM

freevillage on March 18, 2008 at 9:21 PM
That number has nothing to do with Gingrich’s argument. It has to do with the overall story, which I never said would have no effect.
freevillage on March 18, 2008 at 9:25 PM
Hi Freevillage, I disagree, I think it is demonstrably true. Obama is a firm supporter of affirmative action and based on the legal definition of racism:
affirmative action is a prima facia racist policy; it gives preference, creates an unequal playing field and denys economic, and educatonal liberties all based on race and ethnicities.
Based on this, my belief is that Obama has no problems with racism so long as it is not directed towards the black community.
Alden Pyle on March 18, 2008 at 9:28 PM
I’m not. These rare moments confirm in my mind that I’m not a racist; I really do view all of these different peoples with an interest and a curiosity. But, by God, at the end of the day, I still want to understand people using the same criteria and standards.
The lady from Houston is just like you and me, just a normal person. The ones that shock me are the idiots who agree with Obama, and listen to racists like Wright on Sunday morning and don’t walk out. The ones NR talked to who went to the Obama speech, saying Wright sounds just like their racist Baptist minister. I’m always shocked that there are so many of them … but this wonderful media event is going to flush thousands of normal people out of those festering rathole churches, and into the light.
Jaibones on March 18, 2008 at 9:29 PM
This entire deal with BO’s pastor just confirms my suspicion that racism IS alive and well in America. It’s black against white racism!
Last week I had to endure a diversity thing at work and it was lead by an African-American who is very racist and it’s well-known, but not discussed at my workplace. I thought I’d have a stroke! I am tired of being accused of being a racist against blacks when it’s obvious to me that many blacks have issues with whites.
I definitely do NOT want someone in the WH that views whites as being “the enemy.”
I believe a HUGE can of worms has been opened and I believe it will get very ugly.
Oink on March 18, 2008 at 9:29 PM
At least we’re on topic. Obama is a racist. Have you read his speech? Racism isn’t just white supremacy. It is just as dangerous for our peaceful coexistence to have separatist blacks preaching hatred, entitlement, and vast white government conspiracy theories as it ever was to have ignorant whites gathering in lynch mobs. He brought his daughters in there to church for that. So he was either racist, or complicit to racism…either of the two are shameful in my book.
blankminde on March 18, 2008 at 9:29 PM
I think this is an assumption on AP’s part. In my judgment, clearly a false one. He didn’t think it was wise to bring them up to light until absolutely necessary.

Jaibones on March 18, 2008 at 9:36 PM
Let the fake outrage ensue. If this actually causes a feeling in you then I feel sorry for you. This is where the race peddlers on both sides butter their bread. Guess what Obama is a Chicago politician, how the hell did he know he was going to become political star and rise so fast. This is what inner city politicians do, they hitch themselves to “community activists” and keep the inner city vote monolithic and needy just like the gangsters did except they have the “law” officially on their side. But to preach some kind of whiny righteousness is hypocrisy. The main argument with civil rights is oversensitiveness, yet many are acting like little babies. Once again, Obama is an inner city politician, there will be plenty of ways to tear him apart but this whole pastor thing is just going to bring us back to Rodney King territory, it is useless but will create the intended effect. Like all you young earthers who like Hagee, when people took shots at your irrational profit you took offense and solidified your battle lines. No need to go after a black pastor. He is not trying to get his people into an apocalyptic fury, this will strike down racial lines.
We have liberals for Republicans and we want to fight the race wars for them like the media made us do in the 90s. Count me out because both don’t even have our interests in mind, not even embarking on a discussion of morality.
LevStrauss on March 18, 2008 at 9:36 PM
One thing that is missing from this whole argument is the fact that this pastor, this church is doing the same thing as Hamas and Iran is doing. They are teaching the young to hate everyone else who isn’t their color of skin or religion.
I do believe there were several links today or in the past showing the crazy bee or some stuffed animal on PLO Kids TV talking about how they are going to kill the jews. Isn’t this the same spew coming from Trinity??? I used to laugh at how the Islamatards or ROP always talk about killing jews or us to the children and now we have the home grown kind.
If anything the obmaidiotard should have pulled his kids out of that church with all of the hate flowing from the pulpit.
I understand how the Pastor may be scared by racism from the past but shouldn’t he be turning the other cheek by now and reaching out. As a white person hearing his speeches or sermons I feel helpless. What can I do to help change their minds? What am I doing wrong now to make him think that I think that blacks are inferior or are second class??? I tried to watch BET but they really hate white folk.
All joking aside, what can we do as non-racist white people to make him see that were on his side. How can we make him see we all deal with the same BS everyday? We all have bills, taxes, family, kids, work… How can we make him understand that when a white person reaches out his hand to help another human being, it doesn’t matter what color the skin is on the other side?
Ok I’m done…
titleist123 on March 18, 2008 at 9:39 PM
OK we’re slowly entering the realm of pure insanity. First, black racism is just as morally wrong as white racism. It clearly cannot be just as dangerous as its danger is a function of power. And white people have more power in our society and hence more opportunities to act on their hatred.
Secondly, Obama has denounced white government conspiracy theories.
Thirdly, noting the existence of institutional racism is at worst mildly controversial. Less so than evolution, I would say. As for entitlements, I’m against affirmative action because it is a questionable way to solve the problem in theory and certainly unworkable in practice. However, there is a gap (several miles wide) between advocating a failed government policy and lynching innocent people.

Which Obama is it!!
ABC News April 11,2007 by Jake Tapper
Obama: Fire Imus
“I understand MSNBC has suspended Mr. Imus,” Obama told
ABC News, “but I would also say that there’s nobody on my
staff who would still be working for me if they made a comment like that about anybody of any ethnic group.”
“And I would hope that NBC ends up having the same attitude.”
Obama said he appeared once on Imus’s show two years ago, and “I have no intentions of retuning.”
What courage, what change we see in Obama’s ability to rebuke and push for the destruction of Imus’s career.
But Obama has no such damnation for his reverend when
he spits his hate and bogus conspiracy theories from the
pulpit for 20 years while Obama bows his head in agreement.
“He didn’t just cross the line,”Obama said.”He fed into some of the worst stereotypes that my two young daughters are having to deal with today in America.”
I think Obama meant “God Dam# America” didn’t he.
You have to be an idiot to not see how full of it Obama is
to not be able to disown his racist pastor but still have the audacity to claim he brings change and hope.
The real audacity here is you can say all the racist things
you want about white America and make stupid, fact less claims of the government putting Aids into the black community,America is responsible for 9/11,and condemn America for ending the war with the Bomb,
but Obama draws the line when Imus says the same thing about a group of black women basketball players that blacks say all the time in Rap music and videos.
Liberals have no problem with War,Racism, and violence as
long as it serves their ideology and political ambitions.
Baxter Greene on March 18, 2008 at 9:44 PM
Oy.
With Gingrich you always get the painfully obvious being restated as brilliant revelation.
Of course Obama is a liar; that’s just the least of his many sins. You’d almost wish he’d just screw around on his wife like any normal politician (Gingrich, for example). The problem is, Obama is a very dangerous demagogue. This is the closest that a truly disloyal citizen has ever gotten so close to the Presidency. It’s pretty damn scary..
Well, at least the Supreme Court said that we can keep our guns. That’s an amazing realization for those schmucks, considering that it is actually right there in the Constitution.
With Obama saying (in his usual dishonest roundabout way) that we prosecute way too many violent minority criminals, the rest of us (and, of course, I mean ALL of us, of all races) may need those guns for our own self-defense.
TexasJew on March 18, 2008 at 9:45 PM
Most Americans believe slavery was wrong.
Obama will never win the votes of people who don’t.
Big win for Obama today.
alphie on March 18, 2008 at 9:45 PM
Before Obama could be a community organizer and eventual candidate for office, he had to establish “street cred” as a black man rather than a what he would otherwise be preceived as, i.e., someone raised in the white world and steeped in “middleclassness.” Obama came to the most powerful center in his neighborhood, the Trinity Church, and ingratiated himself with the Black supremecist paster, Jeremiah Wright. In time, Wright became his surrogate father, the substitute for the black man who abandoned him as a small child. That’s why Obama could not as soon disown Wright as he could the black community. Doing so would not only destroy his “blackness” and thus, his electoral base, but would involve the traum of discarding his “father.” Obama’s trouble is that he’s had to transition from being a black politician in a poor black neighborhood to being acceptable to whites without giving up the roots he established in Chicago. In the meantime, consider the spectacle of a United States Senator sitting in the pew of a black nationalist, racist, pit of anti-American hatred church and not saying a word to the pastor, his close friend and advisor, about toning down his disgusting rhetoric. Disgraceful.

Midas on March 18, 2008 at 9:50 PM
The danger I’m talking about is towards the common ties that bind our society. As far as white people having more power in our society, and thus being the only ones capable of effective racism I refer you to presidential hopeful Barack Obama.
Only for political expediency though. He was o.k. with listening to it for years, and exposing his daughters to it, but when it came time to own up to it he basically said that its just normal bitter segregated conversation. His denouncement is empty when compared to his complicity.
I was referring to the implicit dangers of racism from either side on social cohesion. Put simply, the more we bring it up the less likely it is to go away.

I thought that in order to make that equivalence one would have to talk about something particularly vague.
OK, so I’m being referred, and… now, what exactly?
Again, you are assuming that white government conspiracies is all that has been talked about in that church. I repeat that I think there’d be way more material for us to listen to if it were the case.
Which is why everyone on HotAir is now talking about the danger of black racism. Got ya. BTW, what other problems are solved by not acknowledging their existence?

Newt, is in this image makeover mode. He’s trying to be an author, orator, and “outsider”. In the end though, there is NOBODY but NOBODY who is better on policy from economics to foreign policy than NEWT. It pains me to say it, cause I think he’s trying to be somebody he’s not, but like I’ve said many times before, SMARTEST GUY IN THE ROOM. If I could combine Mav’s grapefruits and integrity with Newt’s grasp of policy, you would have a candidate that even Ronald Reagan would be envious of. That’s right I said it.

alphie on March 18, 2008 at 10:13 PM
Unless I misunderstood, you said that white racism is more dangerous because whites have the power (I disagree). I was referring you to the person running for the most powerful position in the country that is not white.
From what I understand, most of the video we’ve seen has been from a video the church released. I don’t know that they record many of their “sermons”, but I do know that Obama said that the message is not unlike that you would hear at any black church. It gave me the impression that racial bitterness is a common theme, and not something he disagrees with or else he would have challenged it.
“That anger may not get expressed in public, in front of white co-workers or white friends. But it does find voice in the barbershop or around the kitchen table.”- Sen. Obama
I didn’t say we should pretend it never happened. Forgive and forget is more accurate.

First off, McCain was cleared of all wrongdoing and recommended for exoneration by prosecuting investigator Bill Bennett. However, because Mav was the only one of five dems to be investigated the dem controlled congress of the 80’s under Tip and the rest of the cronies knew they couldn’t let just dems fall on the sword.
Secondly, I have no idea what happened between Mav and his first wife, but I have this to say about integrity. Anyone who refuses to be shipped home as a POW and spends five years in the Hanoi Hilton has f’n integrity. Got it? How about this? POW for five years = infinite guilt free affairs. ok?

Wow, did you ever! And I like the way you said it too!

Do you believe in conditional probabilities?
No, my perceived inability to figure something out cannot explain anything. A successful explanation is typically a well thought out logical argument. Do you have one?
freevillage on March 18, 2008 at 10:56 PM
Not in this context.
Not trying to be insulting, merely pointing out that something fundamental to me is not so for you. I’m oversimplifying the argument though I think. In the context of slavery, blacks need to forgive the action and not hold further generations accountable for it. I believe Rev. Wright’s comments fail miserably there – even so far as to actively remind his congregation of racism as if his career depended on it. I understand that you don’t feel these remarks amount to a full assessment of the church’s atmosphere, but I disagree. Whatever was said from day to day there I won’t know, but there was no shock or delay on the faces there as he started ranting so I don’t think they were surprised by it. Hell they even stood up. I’ve already said why I think Obama is complicit there.
I’ve got to call it a night so I won’t be engaging in further repartee. Its been a pleasure.

Yeah KP is usually better. She has been steamrolled the last couple of nights. Maybe she is taking a dive for Hillary. She is for Hill, right?

Obama – the only candidate that had the clarity of judgement to oppose the Iraq war, yet did not have the clarity of judgement to oppose the radicalized hate speech of his pastor.
Anyone going to Trinity’s website can surmise for themselves the beliefs of the church.

“Why not be gracious and move on to some real issues?”
OK.
How about this gracious statement:
Obama is a lying crap artist and a race pimp. And the morons who plan to vote for him are sheep, or worse.

The audacity of a self-inflated egomaniac.
His next installment in autobiography:
“I’m Tap-Dancing As Fast As I Can“.
(It dazzles the suckers… until they realize their pockets have been picked during the soporific softshoe.)

Good “why” questions Newt.
…and why does he subject his children to this hate-mongering?
Mojave Mark on March 19, 2008 at 12:07 AM
Nice history and summary of a preppie from Punahou, then Harvard, with a Harvard wife, etc. Hardly the resume for a street-wise organizer. Let’s see – where can I get some local street cred??? Hmmmm….how about a radical black hatemonger? Good strategy – if you don’t want to someday run for national office.

I think there were plenty of POWs who managed to stay married to the woman who waited for them when they got back home, chosen.

Slow burn for back peddling liberals on this thread.
Newt was right on the button, dishonesty and a lack of courage up front is the mantle Obama has hung around his own neck with no help from anyone.
If he had stepped up a year (or more) ago and owned the contagion then instead of justifying it now, he could sleep tonight knowing the worst was behind him instead of yet to come and during the most critical time period of his life.
Cowardice is such a manifold pernicious thing whereas strength and courage in the beginning may know the worst but only once.

You guys are just pissed because you know you’re gonna get your clocks cleaned in November because you have no one who can compete intellectually or rhetorically. The only guy other than Paul who was the least bit honesty — Rudy — you ran out of the race because he doesn’t live up to your pretend concern for “values.” Moreover, Bush lowered the intellectual and moral bar so far that calling Republicans The Stupid Party is a compliment.
And now Gingrich calls Obama dishonest. Precious.
Drum on March 19, 2008 at 1:34 AM
You have it exactly right, only backwards. Though certainly not the first choice of most here at HA, McCain is a true patriot and a brave man. To think either one of the socialists running on the Dhimmicrat affirmative action ticket will win is truly wishful thinking.
By the way, how’s the Koolaide you’re drinking?
Mojave Mark on March 19, 2008 at 1:41 AM
Put down the kool-aid before it’s too late, Freevillage, ChosenOne, etc.
Here’s what this white American will work very hard to prevent: Having a POTUS whose closest spiritual advisor of 20 years is a stark, raving mad racist demagogue who loudly and proudly HATES white people.
The die is cast – Obama cannot emerge from this black hole of hatred and claim his own thoughts are otherwise – 20 years of “silent” complicity = agreement.
Fishoutofwater on March 19, 2008 at 2:04 AM
Newt is absolutely right about this.
