I think the real point here is the truth is seeping into the Arab world. I have read so much about fantasy and such dominate the Arabic world which is one of the reasons that they have remained so impoverished. Now with USA in their midst the real truth is smacking them in face. They are seeing that Americans have no desire to rule their country only prevent others from attacking them.

If not for AQ, Iraqis would never have stepped up to the plate on behalf of their own country. We didn’t level the place like we did Germany, so their government was defeated, but not their country, and they chose not to submit. The barbarous terrorists did the leveling for us. Shame we had to suffer so much of it ourselves.

Perhaps letting AQI run loose and destroy its reputation was the best strategy in longterm, even if it was ugly in the shortterm

If war is hell then this thing in Iraq is ugly and headless. And everyone seems so slow on the uptake that a little reality from AQ might actually be the fastest and kindest form of communication.
But, outside of Iraq, there are only 5 or 6 Muslims who express any reservations about AQ. Don’t tell Barack but this might take a while.

Welcome to the club pal. Now if you and your fellow Iraqi countryman would be so kind to take control of your own country and spur your government to make necessary compromises for the benefit of all Iraq, once that happens I think you’ll notice the “occupiers” will start packing their trash cause they are leaving.

This should give pause to everyone damning Rumsfeld. This doesn’t sound like someone who would have responded favorably to blanket US coverage of Iraq from the invasion on.

They join because the alternatives have already been fully explored, and they’re all worse.

Ed, your post reminds me of all the times I have read that Hamas is really a humanitarian social service organization. It appears that in Iraq we are competing with the likes of Hamas. This is nation building and it is costly. I also believe it is in our national security interests to do so. In healing Iraq and the region, we are healing ourselves in ways the “realists” will never grasp.
