Her promotion provided her with a title — Vice- President for Community and External Affairs — and a salary of $316,962.

There is no coincidence here. There is absolutely no doubt that Mrs. Obama received a salary increase of $195, 052 simply because her husband had become a senator. If one denies the causal relationship between the two events, then one has decided to allow their politics to cloud their judgment. The position of Vice-President for Community
and External Affairs did not exist prior to the creation of the position for Mrs. Obama, and now that Mrs. Obama has resigned from the position in order to campaign for her husband, the hospital has not seen the need to fill the open position.blockquote>

I’m not accusing you of anything, I’m really just curious. My curiosity was just perked by your russian website and choice to pick this strange battle in defense of Obama on hotair.com. Something just smells funny. Your whole argument reminds me of liberals who used to argue with a straight face what really is the definition of is.

The university raised her pay to keep her there for the larger influence she would have not just with her husband but with businesses large and small in the community and region because of her husband.

The $1M earmark was not particularly what the university had their eye one. That is why I wondered earlier about who was donating to the university’s NHP project, which is the acronym for the name of the yet to be named building — New Hospital Pavilion. It’s not some small addition that Obama helped with. It’s an 11 storey, 800,000 sf building that, as I ballparked, would cost in the range of $300M. Where’s the money coming from, who’s paying it and did they get more than a “Hello” from Barack?

ya know, freevillage, the fact that the hospital basically paid a bribe, in the form of a HUGE increase in a politician’s spouse’s salary, and reaped the reward worth much more just doesn’t seem to register, does it.

Dan Riehl notes, via Amanda Carpenter, that in the list of earmarks he requested, $1 Million was requested for the construction of a new hospital pavilion at the University Of Chicago. The request was put in in 2006.
