Video: McCain lets Obama off the hook for Wright
posted at 4:10 pm on March 14, 2008 by Allahpundit
He leaves a bit of daylight between them when asked if he’d go to a church like Trinity — “obviously, that would not be my choice” — but otherwise he’s taking the high road, partly to deflect criticism over Hagee (among other people) and partly because he knows Hannity’s going to beat this drum for him up to and including the morning of the election.
Will Obama at least be booting Wright from his African-American Religious Leadership Committee? Nope. What would it accomplish? The die is cast.

Update: The biggest partisan hack/modern-day Murrow on television muses, might not a battle o’ the pastors actually weigh in Obama’s favor?

Well, Bablefish doesn’t make make it much more intelligible, but this is interesting and better translated:

I think it’s safe to say that Allah and Michelle Malkin will keep an eye on the infamous Obama church and it’s new preacher. I’m guessing they’ll cool their heels for awhile, but it’s funny how addictive hate and fear mongering can be. Without that drug to keep them in solidarity the membership will fall off. When they lose members, it’ll be back to business as usual in no short order. The only way the MSM will keep an eye on it, with Obama playing lead for the messiah (backlit hair and halo) will be by us – you and me pilgrims – sending whatever articles Allah and MM post on the sites to those that are not the news junkies we are.
Actually, Confederate Yankee had some great thoughts this morning concerning child abuse and where they are indoctinated to hate by Obama’s church…. Sounds like Hamas/Hisbollah to me. All that’s missing is the ski mask and an automatic weapon held by a 2 yr. old.

I can just see McCain running the same wimpy, milquetoast, old man campaign that Dole rode to defeat in ’04. I’m not saying McCain should go after Obama with a meat cleaver but if McCain intends to make nice through the whole campaign out of fear of being called a hothead by the NY Times he’s going to lose, crazy Obama preacher or not.

Too bad he has never been this gracious to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. That’s the Mormon church for those of you in Rio Linda.
I’ve never used that line before but it’s kind of fun. Thanks for coming up with it Rush!

McCain’s a puss, plain & simple.
For God’s sake, THIS is the best man Republicans can find?
What a waste of an opportunity this election is…

That was surely the weakest part of an otherwise strong interview in my opinion.
SouthernGent on March 14, 2008 at 7:25 PM
Ya think?
The general public is recoiling from the hatred that he has associated himself with for 20 freakin years!
Independents will not buy it?
Reagan Dems will not buy it?
freevillageidiotThere fixed it for ya.

I live in the US. I was born and grew up in Moscow. The site is hosted in St. Petersburg. Will probably move it here soon though. They seem to be cracking down on free speech more and more.

I have to agree with the stance of Pax and Wyrd. McCain is not a wimp for taking the angle he did in the interview. McCain is being smart, on several levels, such as:
– Obama is not yet McCain’s opponent, Obama is still Clinton’s opponent. Obama is competing for the Democratic nomination, he doesn’t face McCain until the general election.
– If Clinton doesn’t bash Obama over the head with his own preacher, the blogs, Hannity, O’Rielly and others will.
– If McCain does it he will be the latest racist to unfairly attack Obama. (Paraphrashing what the left will be screaming, not what I actually believe).
– Unlike Edwards and Clinton, McCain has real differences from Obama on ideals, policies, and the direction America needs to go towards.
– Democrats are going to vote Obama or Clinton no matter what. If McCain continues to conduct himself as a senior statesman who is focused on real issues he will attract more of the independent voters.
McCain clanks when he walks, there’s nothing wimpy or soft about him. Like Teddy Roosevelt, it appears McCain intends to talk softly but carry a big stick.

I agree with this last part. The ONE thing that I respect about McCain is his personal courage. He doesn’t follow any drummer but his own, and he doesn’t care what anyone thinks about his his decisions.
Unfortunately though, the primary use for that big stick of his is poking conservatives in the eye.

I agree, as far as that goes. But Wright’s message isn’t just packed with racialist overtones — it’s got plenty of garden-variety whackadoo anti-Americanism in it, and people are always willing to believe left-liberals secretly despise America. This suspicion is untrue of virtually all people of the left but has been proven correct often enough that it’s still around after all this time.
This is “Card-carrying member of the ACLU” * 10^23. This is like finding out Obama wants Ramsey Clark as his AG. Race doesn’t have to have a thing to do with it.
DrSteve on March 14, 2008 at 9:34 PM
Does McCain really want to win this thing? Is he just trying to stay above the fray and if so can’t he just say something like “I don’t know enough about it to comment” instead of letting him off the hook?
Dollayo on March 14, 2008 at 10:35 PM
I agree that we will have to deal with anti-Americanism. However, Michael Graham, a right-wing talk radio host has been pushing the racism angle for two days.
“My dear looney left listeners. I love you and I know you’re just misinformed but I know you’re fundamentally decent and will not vote for a guy who tolerates racism”. Almost verbatim.

McCain does not yet have an opponent in the election for the President of the United States. So far, he is the only one running a national campaign. McCain has no business getting himself muddy in a Democratic Primary. That’s what the Democrats want, to bloody McCain before the BIG SHOW.
McCain went from Zero to Hero on a shoe string budget in the Repbulican primary. He know’s what he is doing. He’s acting like a senior statesman should act and saving his debate for the time when he knows who his opponent will be. Remember, the Super Delegates are still able to steal the Democratic nomination from Obama. McCain could end up facing Clinton, so any effort spent on Obama could end up wasted.

Politics of personal destruction is not something Sen. Mcaine wishes to engage in. Maintaining distance and let themselves continue to shoot themselves in the feet is the best tack.

Once again another example of class, integrity, and honor that makes him easily the next commmander in chief. again. This is going to be Reagan v Mondale part II
THE CHOSEN ONE on March 15, 2008 at 10:23 AM
This is why I am staying home come November. There is no point in voting.
USBB on March 15, 2008 at 10:55 AM
Reagan/Mondale?? Sounds more like Dole/Clinton redux. This meatball has the lock for nomination. He ain’t running against any Republicans. Has 2 DEMS he can lob bombs at. He has had many opps already. What has he done with them. About the same thing Dole/Kemp did with all the ammo they had against Clinton in 96. ZIPPO, NADA, ZILCH.
