I don’t think he folded up. I just wonder why he’d pass up an opportunity to hit her hard when Bush’s evilness/criminality/incompetence is the running them of his show and his audience relishes when he was conservatives on and puts the screws to them. I’ve written about this umpteen times before, as has Ace. This was a golden moment for “clapper” humor. What happened?

He went after Chris Matthews(!) very hard and I’ve seen him take it to Ramesh Ponnuru, Jonah Goldberg, and a few others. It’s true, he’s generally cordial, and it’s always delivered half-jokingly, but Perino’s no average guest.

There’s a suck-up factor on Stewart’s part. If she were the dictator of Pakistan or former President of Mexico he’d have been even more cordial.

Jonah Goldberg hasn’t been head of state or White House Press Secretary. He and Chris Matthews are both strong personalities with books that Stewart found disagreement with. Both those interviews spun out of control but were enjoyable TV.

In January of 2005 Barack Obama became a freshman United States senator. In March of 2005 Mrs. Obama received a promotion at her place of employment, the not-for-profit University of Chicago Hospitals. Prior to the promotion, she was a hospital administrator earning $121,910 annually. Her promotion provided her with a title — Vice- President for Community and External Affairs — and a salary of $316,962.

There is no coincidence here. There is absolutely no doubt that Mrs. Obama received a salary increase of $195, 052 simply because her husband had become a senator. If one denies the causal relationship between the two events, then one has decided to allow their politics to cloud their judgment. The position of Vice-President for Community and External Affairs did not exist prior to the creation of the position for Mrs. Obama, and now that Mrs. Obama has resigned from the position in order to campaign for her husband, the hospital has not seen the need to fill the open position.blockquote>
