Well, three of them, anyway. “We would like to see what the Democrats have to offer,” says one guy, and under the circumstances who can blame him? I wonder if he knows what the crux of the “offer” consists of.
I gave you a sneak preview last week of how the GOP will be framing Petraeus’s testimony before Congress. Here’s equal time for the left: By the man’s own admission, the government’s failed to use the window of opportunity for reconciliation created by the security gains. If not now, when?

Geez the MSM really wants the whole world to elect our president
Why not ask Osama who he backs ?
William Amos on March 14, 2008 at 8:45 PM
i like that the the title of the piece at the ticker thing at the bottom says “straight talk”.
not-so-subtle barb at johnny mac?

If that Iraqi soldier wants to know what the dems have to offer, just have him imagine the Saddam era. The democrats retreat plan will deliver them back to those days………Or worse.
ThePrez on March 14, 2008 at 8:48 PM
They just had another story on there 7pm show and Kyra says that the Iraqi soldiers want America to stay so they can keep teaching them to secure their country. Do they realize that the Dems are going to pull out? It would have been nice if Kyra reminded them that the Dems want to leave.

My son in Baghdad is rooting for McCain
bnelson44 on March 14, 2008 at 8:50 PM
Saw this earlier, I guess they don’t get that if the Democrats get the White House the only change they’ll be receiving is a Civil War and a few waves as the Dems bring our troops home.
NeoconNews.com on March 14, 2008 at 8:52 PM
The first guy, want’s the U.S. to have a woman President. A muslim wants a woman to lead a country. Funny how in muslim countries a woman can’t even lead a household. Then a second guy likes Hillary. They must be the only two muslims on that side of the planet who think women are equal to men.
Give me a freaking break. I want independent translation verification. They were probably saying “news woman, you look like you could bear many children, want to be my 3rd wife”.
Hog Wild on March 14, 2008 at 8:52 PM
I predict the military will look like Cleveland in reverse. 90% Republican and 10% Democrat. Cleveland will be 90% Democrat and 10% Republican. At the end of the day, groups that vote so overwelmingly one sided just don’t make any differance in the election — they always go the same way. It’s marginal States that matter, not the question of if the Democrats gain 2% of the military vote.
Wise Golden on March 14, 2008 at 8:56 PM
They already know what the Democrats have to offer since they’ve been in control of Congress for 18 months, trying to sabotage the troop surge and making life more difficult for the military!
It’s only thanks to GWB and the pressure of guys like McCain that the security situation for them has improved.
I don’t personally know any soldier who wouldn’t vote GOP.
Pax americana on March 14, 2008 at 8:57 PM
Uhm…. I really hate to throw cold water on this report, but…. these Iraqi troops aren’t voting in our election, so what is the point of this anyway?
ToddonCapeCod on March 14, 2008 at 8:58 PM
Propaganda, buddy.
The Anchor gets all smug afterwards. “Well, those Iraqis want change, like many in the United States.”
NeoconNews.com on March 14, 2008 at 8:59 PM
I eagerly await the CNN story about environmentalist that plan to vote Republican. It’s going to be at the same ratio of Military that votes Democrat.
Wise Golden on March 14, 2008 at 8:59 PM
No wonder they are having trouble starting democracy. Those were pretty plain jane answers.

Heh. Fair play I guess. Lord knows we trash al-Maliki over here enough. And often with the same understanding of Iraqi politics as these guys presumably have of ours.
VolMagic on March 14, 2008 at 9:08 PM
The question I have is…Given that this is CNN, a TOTALLY unbiased news organization, who’s history with Iraq as been about nothing, if not the unflinching search for the truth: How many of these totally random interviews ended up on the cutting room floor before they found the ones that represented the ‘truth’ they were after?
AUINSC on March 14, 2008 at 9:09 PM
Yes it is
William Amos on March 14, 2008 at 9:09 PM
Okay,to some Americans they might think I’m crazy for being
so invovled in American politics, but at least I know who the
winning and most honourable party is,that being the Republicans.
I now know why the Liberal’s were visiting Irag, they were
organizing, should of seen that one coming.
Oh this is priceless, just a wild guess, umm so Democrats visit Irag, talk to some Iragy soldiers and oh I dunno maybe
told them that all of the freedoms, sacrifices, blood, sweat and tears were provided by,oh I dunno——maybe Hillary?

Unbiased Liberal media type talks to Iragy soldier,

Republican Guard—Bad
Liberal Democrat Guard –Good.
Ya,thats the ticket,Liberal unbiased media type.
“Mission Accomplished” (Somewhat Snark!)
canopfor on March 14, 2008 at 9:17 PM
Is this a rhetorical question ? Because it seems your applying it to the wrong person
William Amos on March 14, 2008 at 9:17 PM
Please don’t interrupt the media’s anti-Republican rhetoric.
Do those Iraqi soldiers understand that “change” means an immediately abandoning them and ignoring the threat of Iran and Al Qaeda in Iraq?
amerpundit on March 14, 2008 at 9:17 PM
So a Republican brought them democracy, freedom, and the removal of a bloodthirsty dictator. Republicans understand the threat of Iran and Al Qaeda like they want. Republicans want to stay and not abandon them, making sure their freedom and lives are stabilized.
You know what it’s time for? A Democrat! I certainly hope that’s not the line of reasoning for a majority of Iraqi soldiers.
amerpundit on March 14, 2008 at 9:20 PM
Why can’t Iraqis vote in our elections? Mexicans do.
jgapinoy on March 14, 2008 at 9:21 PM
Notice the smile on the reporter’s face when the soldier says “OBAMA”!
Seriously, get in line bnelson44. These soldiers were hand picked by CNN and fed these lines. Your son is a soldier, we don’t like his kind round these parts…and his honest (non CNN filtered) opinion doesn’t matter.
malan89 on March 14, 2008 at 9:22 PM
How many Iraqis did they interview before they found these few Dem-lovers?
jgapinoy on March 14, 2008 at 9:25 PM
Yes and you know what happened to her.
Aleph on March 14, 2008 at 9:27 PM
What the democrats have to offer is a small pay raise and a big fat drop in housing allowance to counter the raise. At least that was how Clinton played the game.
frreal on March 14, 2008 at 9:28 PM
666.
Aleph on March 14, 2008 at 9:30 PM
I was pretty dismayed when I saw this interview. As with everything else, there are these points to keep in mind:
1) These Iraqis know nothing about the Democratic party. All they know is that Saddam operated under the “Republic of Iraq” and now they are a democracy.
2) They are getting their news coverage of the American political process from al-Jazeera and Middle Eastern outlets. The chance that they are watching American coverage is slim to none.
3) They don’t know that Barack and Hillary are for abortion, birth control, sex ed for minors, and loose values.
4) They don’t know that it is the Democrats, not Republicans, who have screwy elections like theirs. Democrats register felons, dead people, illegals, commit fraud…. I think that’s what these Iraqis want to get away from. They just don’t know anything about democracy yet.
5) There is a legitimate frustration on the side of Iraqis because the Casey command, Casey preceeded Petraeus, screwed up security for a couple years in Iraq. Some soldiers call them the “lost years of the war” when there was little progress.
6) They really don’t know what a Democrat in office looks like. It’s ignorance talking, in my opinion. They even said they don’t know what Democracy looks like and they want to see what the other side is like. I think they haven’t a clue how this could impact them. I hope they’re ready for it.

So the fact that a female leader that many muslims wanted was assasinated by other muslims leads you to conclude that no muslims want female leaders?

Where did I say that ? I simply pointed out that some muslims will NEVER accept a woman as a leader.

I am so sick of the MSM. CNN.
Agrippa2k on March 14, 2008 at 9:58 PM
My son was in Baghdad when Hillary and McCain came in to talk to the troops at the same time. As he told the story to me, Hillary spent much of the time lingering behind the troops while McCain mingled with the troops, smiling, shaking hands and posing for photographs. At one point McCain mockingly pointed at Hillary who only had a few sour-pussed officers keeping her company (under orders). Laughter ensued.
I assure you my friends, our troops, the ones stepping up to the plate, routing out the bad guys, kicking butts and taking names ….. want absolutely nothing to do with Hillary and have said there in NO WAY any of them will vote for her as CIC. She’s a laughing stock to those who serve.
As for the “journalist” monkeys at CNN, we all know they have their defeatist agenda to drive home. They are unwatchable and a jihadist propaganda machine comparable to Al Jazeera. They have now gone the extra mile and uncovered several Iraqi sheeple who perform on cue for their cameras.
They display their own ignorance in the video piece, when the woman interviewer for CNN asks the Iraqi soldier, “Which party do you prefer, the democratic or the Republican?” Makes you wonder if these people learned anything in journalism school and how the managed to graduate.
Our world is chocked full of dumbness.
fogw on March 14, 2008 at 10:08 PM
This sounded too scripted to me. The point is to discredit the republican party. Did you notice how the interpeter used Identical words about republicans???
Question, how many troops did cnn interview to find these 3?
allrsn on March 14, 2008 at 10:09 PM
They probably just said “Clinton” and “Obama” because they are the only ones the media is talking about. It is obvious to me, that if they actually were paying attention to the elections, they would not support the US withdrawing the troops. Like they said, “WE NEED HELP.” “THE IRAN PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE DEALT WITH.”
They didn’t say, “I think the US should leave.”

The truth is this “let’s listen to the soldiers” routine is getting old. I know I’m supposed to pretend that the best and brightest in any country become soldiers and not CEOs, scientists, doctors and lawyers, but I can’t. My crap detector goes off and I can’t sleep.
At any case, fundamentally we either need to go to war or we don’t. In either case it’s not up to the soldiers to question the decision of the civilian authorities. In all seriousness, saluting to their bravery and personal sacrifice, does anyone really think they are qualified to run a war? If their opinion on the entire war is genuinely valid, maybe we should be consistent and promote them to generals - rank adequate to their competence? And if we are not doing that, maybe we’ll admit to ourselves why not and behave accordingly.
freevillage on March 14, 2008 at 10:55 PM
AllahPundit, MNF-I just put out a press release saying the quote in the Washington Post is a lie. They’ve requested a retraction and apology. See the top post at Ace HQ by DrewM right now.

TBinSTL on March 14, 2008 at 11:04 PM
Your point about Buhtto was perfectly valid, but that post has to be one of the most ignorant I’ve ever read. There has to an opening to get a promotion, dimwit. There are tons of soldiers who are serving in ranks well below their competence level, some do it their entire career for lack of an oppotunity to advance. It’s one of the reasons they’re the best and most competent fighting force in the world. Why don’t you spend a little more time reading here before you start mouthing off about how the lower ranks aren’t fit to make sound judgements or have worthwhile opinions about policy and whether it’s working.
They don’t get a veto, but their input is more than appreciated.
The Apologist on March 14, 2008 at 11:05 PM
Although I empathize with your sentiment, Agrippa, it’s not good for the blood pressure - it’s only CNN doing their thing. Dogs bark, CNN lies.

Really? How come veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan are three times as likely to be unemployed? I think you along with all of us as a country are very good at giving them the lip service. The reality though doesn’t quite match the rhetoric.
freevillage on March 14, 2008 at 11:14 PM
Ratio of Christians willing to accept a Woman President = 1:2, conservatively.
Ratio of Muslims (world-wide) willng to accept a female leader = 1:2000.
Don’t draw comparisions between the two — it makes you look dumb.

Got proof ? Last time I checked Christian nations have elected women leaders. Margaret Thatcher is highly reguarded in conservative circles.
Funny how we are arguing about how women are treated on a blog owned by a woman who is regularily assualted by liberals with vile insults for “trying to be white”.

I also really hope Hillary doesn’t write that book about how Democracy works. Although I guess it’d be better than Gore writing it; I think Arab countries have enough riots and gunbattles over accusations of rigged elections.
Good to hear the Iraqis themselves talking about Iran, though.
And credit where credit’s due they do point out at the end that they couldn’t speak like this under the last ‘President’ they had..

Not by itself, but combine that with the whole Sharia law thing & women being only worth half a male or needing 2 women to equal 1 man’s testimony or some such non-sense like that….or the fact that woman are not allowed to drive; not even allowed to go outside without a male family member; or without wearing an all black, 4-man, windowless tent in the dang hot desert sun! So yes, it would seem odd that they would suggest a woman for prez.

TheSitRep on March 15, 2008 at 8:48 AM
well, regardless I find it heartening that they seem so genuinely interested in having a democracy and fighting for it. Sad that they’re so misinformed, especially the Obama guy. He hasn’t heard that Obama would leave them high and dry and wouldn’t do a thing to stop Iranian meddling. I think all they know is Republican = Bush = Bad.
Also its possible that the only candidates they know anything about is the only ones in the media - Hillary and Obama.
Keli on March 15, 2008 at 9:04 AM
The pay for the average soldier is below what they would be making in the civilian world for the same job.
Also, I’m confused if you’re saying enlisted soldiers aren’t qualified to run a war, or if no soldiers are truly qualified to run a war. You don’t just get to become a general because you stayed in the military long enough. If you aren’t better than your peers you get passed over for promotion. Officers have a civlian degree, and to reach a certain rank you need a masters in something. They also go to this little thing called a War College.
