Have to say, in terms of inflammatory rhetoric, this really isn’t much. Nothing that will affect Obama’s campaign.

It’s pretty much common knowledge that the US and black people haven’t exactly had the best history together. I can still see some being angry that it’s people were enslaved by it.

Does this preacher hate America? I wouldn’t say this clip necessarily shows that. You can be angry at something you love.

And judge Obama by Obama. Obama is not an “angry black man.”

At least this guy isn’t an open anti-catholic bigot who believes war with Iran is an inevitable gateway to Armageddon. Now, if a candidate were in bed with a guy like that, THAT would be worrisome.

Just listen to the unhinged rage in his voice. He looks and sounds like a mad man. This doesn't sit very well with the folks who thought Obama was the Cosby kinda black guy, it makes him look like the Militant Black Guy. Such an association would have instantly doomed any other candidate in the past. A pastor is not the same thing as a religious endorser; the Obama’s have attended this man’s church for many years, were married by him, and have proveably listened to many such sermons by him without standing up and walking out. Not since George Wallace or Strom Thurmond has any US presidential candidate approvingly sat through sermons of equivalent racism. If Ferraro’s accusation had been untrue yesterday, it certainly isn’t now.

The problem is that pretty much everyone at the DNC agrees with this sentiment. To them, such attitudes are mainstream.

That’s why they act so surprised when a candidate like Gore or Kerry goes down to defeat.

1 – i would imagine and expect that any tax breaks that ‘church’ gets will be revoked by the IRS shortly (and hopefully with a big fat historical back-taxes-due come-uppance).

I have been saying these things for the longest time. I didn’t hear Rush or Sean but it is soooo obvious, being part of a church for 20 years with a racist, Farrakhan loving pastor says VOLUMES about who you are. As was Michelle Obama’s thesis, her mind was on the white vs black thing back then.
Do we really need these people around? Especially Obama applying for the greatest position of all, President of the United States?
I have left churches for way less reasons. They have been there 20 years!! And since when is Jesus black? He was a Hebrew!!
And this is not what churches are preaching, if I went to a church and heard a pastor like this, I’d be out the door!!
He says he rejects Farrakhan’s endorsement, yet doesn’t reject his pastor, give me a personal break!

As I said, the specific content of Wright’s comments may differ from what you hear in other churches. But nearly all of them preach hate or misery of one sort of another, and then justify it as “The Gospel.” It’s their stock-in-trade.

I’d love to know where you’ve been.

There’s preaching of love of God and love of neighbor, repentance from sin (perhaps that’s the misery you mean), living rightly before God.

I’ve never heard a white preacher talk like this and I’ve been attending church my entire life: in the South, the Midwest and the Northeast.

I don’t even think televangelists talk like this. Any misery they speak of is probably in context of deliverance.
