Video: Modern-day Murrow emotes grotesquely over Clinton and Ferraro; Update: We’re still big fans, says Hillary toady

posted at 10:30 am on March 13, 2008 by Allahpundit

Time once again for the TV equivalent of the patented nutroots Pretty Vicious Rant and Important Action Alert, although let it be noted that this comment’s more “special” than usual: Not only is the target a Democrat and married to the man on whom Olby lavished his most spectacular display of leftist ass-kissing, but if what he says at the beginning is to be believed, HRC is herself a fan of his performance art pieces. That bit of karmic sweetness makes it go down relatively smoothly. As usual, you’re advised to read the (helpfully annotated) transcript at Olby Watch before viewing, as there’s simply no way to follow what he’s saying amid the distracting spectacle of facial tics, camera pivots, vocal modulation, and other clumsy theatrics he uses to affect indignation. Anyone who’s spent time on a Catholic high-school speech and debate team will recognize this instantly as typical of Original Oratory competitions, where bad, overwrought acting earns big points and the only limit on emoting is your imagination. No one does that derivative, look-down-and-turn-away “good night and good luck” closer as world-wearily as you, Kayo.

Oh, his point? Geraldine Ferraro sounds like David Duke and the fact that Hillary Clinton criticized her, apologized to black voters for BJ’s Jesse Jackson/Obama remark, and accepted Ferraro’s resignation from the campaign isn’t nearly, remotely enough.

Update: What a feeble little tool:

On a conference call just now, to Howard Wolfson responded to Ben’s inquiry about Keith Olbermann’s characterization that the campaign was “awash in filth.”

“We obviously vigorously disagree with that observation,” said Wolfson. “Although many of us remain fans of Keith and enjoy watching the show on nights other than last night.”

Sorry, no matter how newsworthy he might be or become, my hand is unable to push any start button which would cause Mr Olbermann to run on my screen; he is an emetic as far as I am concerned.

I can’t even watch this. Don’t you just want to smack the hell out of this mug?

Geronimo on March 13, 2008 at 10:40 AM

Ten minutes?

Ten. Freaking. Minutes.

Unh Uhh. No way.

I’d rather have a root canal or just pull out a rotten tooth with a pair of plyers.

Ten freaking minutes to listen to the sound of his own voice explain that a hack politician spoke the truth about one hack politician (can there be any other kind in Chicago?) in support of another hack politician?

To say what, exactly?

No, check that.

I don’t care.

You can’t make me watch.

Typhoon on March 13, 2008 at 10:40 AM

They are overplaying the race card and the result will be a landslide for Senator McCain.

LOL, you nailed it…6th grade, St Louise De Marillac…

This 8th grade girl came in to give us a speech on Helen Keller, this girl was supposed to be the best actress/speaker/debater in school, blah blah blah…

Well, as soon as she starts into the overwrought weepy handsy theatrics, “Water…” I start to crack up…and then turn beet red…I tried my best to hide it…but it just came out and I was crying I was laughing so damned hard…soon the whole class was laughing, I got thrown out into the hallway, I could not explain to anybody, especially Sister Antoinette, why in the hell I was laughing and couldn’t stop…

I get the same feeling watching this hump go on and on…it’s just funny as hell…maybe it’s the obvious fakery or something that touched a nerve. I still don’t know, but maybe it has to do with the level of making a total ass of oneself, while thinking you’re hot sh*t, in front of a classroom full of people.

Needless to say, I got in a lot of trouble back then…

SSIIIIIIRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!

They hate former Dem VP Candidate, Lieberman.
They hate former Dem VP Candidate, Ferraro.
They hate former Dem President Clinton.
They hate former Dem First Lady and previously presumptive Dem Pres Candidate Clinton.

Awesome. And we’re just getting to the good part.

Best. Primary. Ever.

IreneFingIrene on March 13, 2008 at 10:47 AM

I watched the whole thing. Maybe I’m a masochist, but the last two or so minutes were definitely worth sitting through the rest of the screed. He really likes to repeat himself and make the same point over and over again in list form, doesn’t he?

“DO YOU NOT SEE, SENATOR!”

Master thespian. We’re witnessing greatness here, people.

World B. Free on March 13, 2008 at 10:48 AM

They are overplaying the race card and the result will be a landslide for Senator McCain.

JayHaw Phrenzie on March 13, 2008 at 10:43 AM

Don’t know about the landslide part, but I do think by the time the General Election gets here, people will be thinking, enough with the crying about race crap!

I am starting to feel that way now, anytime Obama is criticized they call it racism. When Bill Clinton said that Obama’s talk against Iraq was a “fairy tale” people tried to say THAT was racist!

He is overplaying it and he better look out, people will tire of this quickly.

ArmyAunt on March 13, 2008 at 10:49 AM

Seeing a rant like this almost makes me want Hillary to come back and win the nomination over Obama, just to watch Olby pretend this Special Comment never happened (someone better archive it off the MSNBC site, just in case it gets taken down later). He’ll also be pretty much accusing McCain of being Hitler to the infinite power in future Special Comments during the fall campaign, in an effort to get back into the Clintons’ good graces.

jon1979 on March 13, 2008 at 10:49 AM

OK. For the sake of all, I tried watching this. I made it 20 seconds and began jabbing my eardrums with rebar. After another 10 seconds I was gouging a rusty nail into my eyes. I still can’t get it out of my head. Any other suggestions?

Obviously, I disagree with KO at least 95% of the time. However, this was a treat to listen to. At least he’s consistent in his beliefs.

It’s so rare to hear “Blue on Blue” attacks, but this was a good one.

asc85 on March 13, 2008 at 10:54 AM

Apart from all the purple prose (which is a bit much to take), it is amusing to watch the left turning on its own. Keep it up, guys.

There is serious competition going on in the world of Populist media blasters.

Lou Dobbs
or
this moron – Obermann

Two men with egos that are out of control – they use volume, hyperbole, and rants to try and create an impression of knowledge, conviction, and understanding.

They are in fact – only modern day recreations of ‘Howard Beale’

jake-the-goose on March 13, 2008 at 10:58 AM

Well…Er…

I said I wouldn’t, but I did.

Luckily there’s no rebar nearby.

Seriously though, it was pretty funny. Like a trainwreck with slapstick sound effects.

And after careful consideration and a full and thoughtfull review of the presentation I’m just left wondering:

Is it me, or do they apply that Olby’s makeup with a trowel?

Typhoon on March 13, 2008 at 10:58 AM

No, No , No. . . .I ain’t watching that dork PERIOD.

Texyank on March 13, 2008 at 10:59 AM

Wow. Unbelievable that he actually has a prime time show. Doesn’t anybody at MSNBC have a clue?

Please help me. I am having trouble grasping his message. Does he not approve of what Geraldine said about Obama? He was a little vague about the matter /sarc

I have visions of him pulling a Spitzer at some point. Tapes will emerge of Kayo uttering an Earl Butz type joke or some other slanderous racial smear while thinking that he is talking in private. We will be waiting…..

And here I thought only Republicans were racist! LOL!

I was checking out the latest pew poll and 20% of white Dem’s will vote McCain if Obama is the nominee.
Much as they like to point fingers, it seems as if the Dems are the racists. Same as it ever was. Blacks forget that Lincoln was a REPUBLICAN!

ArmyAunt on March 13, 2008 at 11:08 AM

jake-the-goose on March 13, 2008 at 10:58 AM

I don’t agree. If they were like Howard Beale, Olberman would be talking about how GE/NBC is on of the strongest damn propaganda forces in the whole godless world. He would also tell people to turn off their TVs and read, but Keith does not seem to interested in seeing anything like that coming to fruition. He is a Murrow wannabe, utilizing the Al Franken model for success, go after Oreilly and make money. Frankly I liked his show when he started, but his ego and popularity have really destroyed any value the show would have had. Of course I was one of the five people that watched Nachman, whom he took over from and have seen the evolution of Nachman’s show to now. The more Keith has tinkered with it, the more downhill the show has gone.

LevStrauss on March 13, 2008 at 11:09 AM

mymanpotsandpans on March 13, 2008 at 11:19 AM

Watched the whole 9+ minutes. Three words:

That. Was. AWESOME!

Man, what a d-bag! There’s better acting at my local elementary school pageant. The sign-off is the best I’ve ever seen. The hitch in his voice as he looks away… brilliant.

This actually put me in a better mood. Thanks, Olby! When you’re not making me sick, you’re making me laugh!

MikeZero on March 13, 2008 at 11:23 AM

OMG, I thought he was gonna cry! That was TOOOOOO FUNNY!

scottm on March 13, 2008 at 11:26 AM

It’s all much ado over nothing.
Politics is always opportunism.
The one ahead has a marketing edge.
Ferraro surmised nothing spectacular.
She points out the obvious.

Big deal, not unless you make it such, and even in the making of the big deal you only prove your own will to bend the truth to fit into your prefab box. Therein, nothing productive is gained while an important objective essence is lost to the subjective. The childish opposite game is being forced down the adult throat in a pseudo-mature real life world.

That today’s PC free speech is so unfree and censored speaks volumes of the devolving social temperance under the guise of civil rights.

“Awash in filth” indeed! Dems are gross. They are obsessed with race and gender and completely devoid of any honest or useful convictions regarding our country. And where does Olby get the idea that Hill is acting like a Republican? She is acting like a Clinton!

Ferraro is not David Duke. However, what she was vile and disgusting. The problem is: these people support affirmative action (as a general principle) and then take away the right of a black person to take any credit for his or her accomplishments.

We’re so good and understanding of your hardships, we’ll make it easier for you. We’ll change the society for you… Hey, we made it easier for you, remember? We changed the society for you. Don’t forget that.

While I think there is no question that institutionalized racism exists, this logic is precisely what’s wrong with the ways the left tries to fix it.

As a recent Cap’s Quarters transfer patient I had no idea that the “test” of character here would require submitting to the torture of listening to nine minutes of a ranting lunatic. This is cruel and unusual punishment and I will be contacting the mental health authorities directly.

That said, yes I listened to the whole diatribe from the asylum of nurse Ratchet’s protégé and came away thinking a lobotomy would be a reasonable remedy for Mr. Obermann’s oral regurgitation. The only satisfaction derived from this “test” is the comprehension that the ignorance on the left is not limited to any reasonable thought or vacuity set forth by Mr. Obermann or his affiliates.

I watched the whole thing. I get extra credit, right?

tgillian on March 13, 2008 at 12:42 PM

Freevillage, why is what she said vile and disgusting?

Obama has gotten to where he is by exploiting identity politics. Before law school he worked as a “community organizer”. He affiliated with a black nationalist church in Chicago and used that community as his power base to get elected to the state legislature.

Obama’s camp wants to have it both ways. They want to say that his experience as a black man makes him uniquely qualified to be a uniter but if you dare say that a white first term senator with the same thin resume would not be a credible presidential candidate, you’re a racist. If Obama was a governor, I’d say that Ferraro’s comments were out of line, as Americans will elect former governors with limited experience, but coming out of Congress we seem to like them a little more seasoned at the national level.

OTOH, the Democratic party is the historical party of racism, and I can’t imagine a Republican saying such a thing about Michael Steele or Colin Powell.

rokemronnie on March 13, 2008 at 12:47 PM

I’m still trying to figure out what he’s trying to accomplish.

Is he a comedian?…If that’s the deal, he should come up with material written by someone above the level of an eighth-grader.

Is he a pundit?…If that’s the deal, I would think, he’d say something resembling the truth.

Or, is he just a half-wit, with a big mouth and small ideas?

I take a peek at this clown, during commercial breaks on The Factor, once in a while…But, after 10 or 15 seconds of self-induced torture, switch back to the commercial.

franksalterego on March 13, 2008 at 12:47 PM

I am in complete agreement with Ms. Ferraro. The problem for the dems is that both of their candidates suffer from the same problem. Neither of them have any appreciable experience. They seemed to be sooo concerned with experience 4 years ago with Lurch as their nominee. I guess that’s not important anymore.

Olbermann is an openly liberal pundit. He has an audience and what he says is a legitimate perspective. He goes over the top but his basic point is shared by a lot of people. Clearly, if you’re a Democratic operative then you respond to a criticism from him very diplomatically.

I mean, I don’t care for this guy. I don’t even know who he is. But the line of his response was 100% expected. I’m sure McCain would have responded in a similar way to critical comments by Rush. “You’re a great guy, but we disagree here. We’ll still be friends.”

I believe that he did “grow a pair”. But like most liberal Democrats, his “pair” says that if you want to succeed in “liberal politics” you never offend YOUR LIBERAL TV GODS. Of which, Olberman is preeminent.
The “big picture” to Howard Wolfson is not only winning the White House, but winning more seats in congress and the senate, and if he and Hilay have to suffer some “targeted” criticism from Olberman, so be it.
It might not be how you or I grow a “pair”, but It’s how Howard Wolfson and most Democrats grow “their pairs”.

It might not be how you or I grow a “pair”, but It’s how Howard Wolfson and most Democrats grow “their pairs”.

Teeny, tiny pairs that are immediately presented to Olby, DKos, and Huff for storage in their pockets.

I actually watched this on TV, after taking my antiemetics. He was hysterical, and so was the reaction on some of the lefty forums, with the Hillbots and the Obamatrons going for each other’s throats. KO, once loved and bowed down to, has committed the ultimate crime, questioning The Queen.

He did have one good point – Hill has gotten some abysmal advice from her crew. Not that I’m complaining about that.

ROFLMAO!!! Oh man-o-man! My side is hurtin. That is one of the best SNL skits I’ve seen in a long, long time. The part where he slobbered and had to lick off his lower lip just put it over the top for me. They’ve got to have this guy on more often, who ever he is. lol

You mean three, you forgot O’Reilly.

AprilOrit on March 13, 2008 at 6:36 PM

This was nothing. Olbergoebbels needs to be tried for treason and sedition, along with aiding the enemy. FDR, bless his fascist/socialist soul would have had him shot. Karma is a b***h…………………

adamsmith on March 13, 2008 at 6:48 PM

So self righteous, don’t you hope that he turns out to be Client 10?

Akzed on March 13, 2008 at 7:15 PM

You know, my grandma used to say, “there are some people you hate, and then there are some people you hate.” I think she had people like Olbermann in mind.

Quite so.

RMR on March 13, 2008 at 9:25 PM

I gotta admit… it’s a lot easier stomaching Olberman when he’s nipping at the heels of a Democratic Presidential candidtate. Absolutely hilarious that he thinks he holds any kind of moral ground to tell anyone anything and for a change doing it to a Clinton. I would love to see Olby try to hand Bill Clinton another check…

If Obama did a sudden halt, Obly would be neck deep into the crack of Obama’s keyster before Olby could stop.

I find it disturbing that by the end, he was literally frothing at the mouth.
