I don’t see where any conservative should be dismissive: Romney managed to win in Massachuessetts, why wouldn’t him promoting other Conservative ideas be bad? Ah, because “He’s Mormon! I’d rather be hung upside down on a bed of rusty nails and tortured by Kerry, Kennedy, and Obama jumping on my chest than ever, ever, ever hint towards anything good possibly coming from any connection to a Mormon!!!!”

Seriously, it’s one thing to not like Mitt for policy reasons. Take Hollowpoint: probably the very first anti-Mitt poster here. But Hollowpoint, as far as I know, never once breathed out a bunch of stuff about how Mormonism is ____ (Fill in blank with smear here) like most anti-mitt posters here.

You see, the RV was a jab at your buddy who always hollered about Fred and his red truck, and Fred’s kids being on the dole…nothing about class warfare (playing the class card are we, learning from the liberals I see). And a jab at his kids who claimed they were serving the country the same as the soldiers in Iraq by campaigning for their dad. You may see that as being equivalent, I don’t. Here’s a hint for you Mitt…give it a rest, help the Republicans stay in power…you have never shown much support for your fellow Republicans in the past, now you can, hold off for a few months and direct your energy towards something important.

Honestly, I hope he avoids the cable-show route. There are too many of those to really stand out. If he’s serious about his conversion on immigration reform, I think he’d make a good RNC chair.

Romney + Jindal + wave of successful conservative electoral victories == Unstoppable force in 2012.

The next four years are about reeducating the American electorate on the necessity of conservative fiscal/foreign policy. The culture war can be fought independently of those two, though synergy among the three is entirely possible (indeed likely) if needed. A backdrop of bungling policy and incompetence on the part of a Democrat Oval Office will help to make that a reality, though it’s a sickening thought that we’d be surviving (literally) in the meantime on the bureaucratic inertial forces set into motion by BushCo.

Other Republicans close to Romney said that Romney was looking for ways to position himself as the ideas factory for the Republican party over the next four years, contributing policy to John McCain, if he’s in the White House, or to Republicans in Congress, if McCain is not.

This just occurred to me – Didn’t Newt set himself up as an ideas factory with his American Solutions? I wonder what Newt thinks of this move – will he welcome it?

it’ll be interesting to watch whether and how, assuming the political landscape shifts left (which is likely no matter who wins in the fall), Mitt recaptures some of the “nuance” of his previous, more centrist positions on those issues.

Don’t count on it.
