Seriously, that was probably the worst rant I’ve ever read on this website.

Nonfactor on March 13, 2008 at 2:28 AM

And I couldn't help but notice you didn't have one word to say in defense of your previous post.

On further reflection, anyway the issue is not Obama's race. Ferraro was really talking about the way people are reacting to Obama's race, not about Obama himself. She correctly perceives that whether out of some kind of hope that someone of Obama's race will produce a drastic improvement in race relations, or out of some kind of guilt that people have over past injustices against blacks, because of Obama's race people are reacting to him not as much for who he is as a politician, but more for who he represents as a black leadership figure. So they've created kind of a bubble of that hope, or of that chance for expiation, which has nothing to do with how good a president he would be. And it is a bubble because there is no real substance to it--there's nothing inside. Ferraro was trying to pop that bubble because she knows it has no substance, and because she thinks her gal would be better. Saying that Obama wouldn't be where is if he were not black, is just as true as saying that Martin Luther King Jr. could not have had the impact that he did had he not been black. And btw, "sending black children the message," that anytime things aren't going their way all they have to do is scream "Racist!" is about as destructive to their future happiness/success as anything a real racist could throw at them. Just look at what Jesse Jackson, with all his victimhood and race-baiting, accomplished when compared to MLK. Bupkes.

Ha ha, This cracks me up. The truth is, Geraldine is probably not far off the mark.
What is so funny but sad is that you can no longer speak the truth because the truth is taboo.

Speaking the truth today will get you in more hot water than telling a lie.

After stating something everyone knew, Geraldine Ferraro was skewered as a racist, and has quit from Hillary's campaign.

The child will receive the message given to him or her by the people of influence who happen to be around. Nobody is "sending messages."

Obama is a neophyte, yet is being compared to JFK. One might compare him in the area of charisma, oratory, or looks, but some would have said the same about John Edwards, and we know how successful he was. Even he didn't have the gall to try making that comparison. If one wonders whether Obama's success, which appears to be out of proportion to his qualifications, could be due to his race, the question itself is considered racist. If one were to wonder whether the reason why the Duke lacrosse team rape case received sooooo much attention was because of the ethnicity of the victim, would that be a racist question? The question of whether Obama's disproportionate success might be due to his race ought to have some kind of standing. On the other hand, the fact that his middle name in Hussein has no real salience, and in that case, I would suspect mischief. But is race not a salient factor in our polity? Does race have a way of skewing the way things are viewed in our culture sometimes? Clearly. So, begging your pardon, there is a basis for the question, in which case it ought not be quashed by the PC inquisitorial committee that finds heresy under every tree and rock. If it is such a preposterous question, why can't you blow it out of the water with an argument, instead of lobbing your "racist" bomb?

I wrote above that no one is "sending messages." No one, that is except you. Your message is the message of the inquisition. YOU MAY NOT SAY CERTAIN WORDS, OR THINK CERTAIN THOUGHTS AND IF YOU DO YOU WILL BE SILENCED, AND IF POSSIBLE, DESTROYED. F you and the horse you rode in on, you troll.

Clinton Apologizes To Black Voters After Unapologetic Ferraro Resignation: Too Little Too Late?...

Senator Hillary Clinton has apologized to black voters due to the controversy surrounding the widely-condemned comments of now-resigned unapologeteic campaign official Geraldine Ferraro, who basically said Obama is where he is because he is black.

He earned his law degree from Harvard…how did he get into Harvard?

ihasurnominashun on March 12, 2008 at 6:23 PM

This is so insulting it's unreal. The suggestion inherent in your argument and Ms. Ferraro's argument is that no black person in America can do anything on their own merits. Where if they are successful they must've only gotten to where they are because of their race.

Imagine a young black child with aspirations in politics listening to what Ferraro said. Is it really the message you want to send to that child that if they do enter politics and are successful the only reason is because of their race?

Pathetic and racist.

In the past, throughout Bill Clinton's political career, there have been many Clinton fans, staff, consultants and general supporters who have fallen on their own swords in order to take the heat and focus, and possibly blame for wrongdoings, off of the Clintons.

It appears to me that Barack Obama has taken the art of taking offense to an extreme, to the point that no one dared make a negative comment about him or his experience, or lack thereof, without him taking offense and somehow giving it an aura of being a racially charged offense.

This hamstrings Hillary Clinton down the road, like in the runup to the Pennsylvania primary, and severely cramps her aggressive style of attacking opponents, especially in utilizing character assassination attacks.

My thinking is that Geraldine Ferraro willingly set herself up to be the fall guy finally make a public issues of how ridiculous this situation has become, and to defuse the "racially" charged faux outrage that has become Obama's standard response to criticism of him on any level.

And I have to admire her for doing so. Although it's beyond me how anyone can be so loyal to the Clinton's, given their history of throwing people under the bus when things take unexpectedly negative turns, still it's an ongoing problem that really needs addressing on many levels, and more power to her for running with the bulls!

Actually, the Hillary people weren't vacillating about getting this out of the way as fast as possible, once Elliot Spitzer announced his resignation Wednesday morning.

That was going to take the Spitzer scandal off Page 1, and leave a vacancy for a new crisis, and Geraldine's defense of her original remarks meant she and Hillary were going to be "in the barrel" on Thursday and Friday if this announcement hadn't occurred.

There will still be talk about it, but now the Clintons can trot out their time-tested "That's old news. It's time to move on," spin about the incident, which half of the folks in the big media will buy and half will not, but will have a hard time going very far with it as far as turning it into a Clinton "crisis" without a unified front from the big print and TV outlets.

Ferraro is totally right. B. Hussein Obama is probably the most thin skinned pol I've seen in a while. We can't use his middle name, we can't talk about his race. Any criticism of him is automatically racist.

Fact is, is that he's benfitting from his race more than anyone I've ever seen. And for Nurse Ratched, it's nice to watch her squirm, so there is a benefit.

God help us if any of them are elected.

Andrew Sullivan on Barack's appeal:

What does he offer? First and foremost: his face. Think of it as the most effective potential re-branding of the United States since Reagan...

Consider this hypothetical. It’s November 2008. A young Pakistani Muslim is watching television and sees that this man—Barack Hussein Obama—is the new face of America. In one simple image, America’s soft power has been ratcheted up not a notch, but a logarithm. A brown-skinned man whose father was an African, who grew up in Indonesia and Hawaii, who attended a majority-Muslim school as a boy, is now the alleged enemy. If you wanted the crudest but most effective weapon against the demonization of America that fuels Islamist ideology, Obama’s face gets close. It proves them wrong about what America is in ways no words can.

The idea that Obama being black has nothing to do with his canidacy is just too dumb to even consider. Yeah, maybe his speaking style would have gotten him some traction, but his whole life story, has he has written and spoken about it, is about race. Please, his response to this just shows how much of coniving, Chicago style politician he is. His response to this proves to me that he will never get a majority of the voters to support him. His is a total JERK and big PHONY

BS. I guess he got that Harvard Law degree because he’s black too, huh?

Grow Fins on March 12, 2008 at 6:17 PM

Right.

Because getting a law degree and becoming the front running candidate for the most powerful executive job on Earth with absolutely zero executive experience are the EXACT SAME THING.

Chief Executive of the United States

The candidates, their surrogates, and the Forth Estate, all using identity politics, have winnowed the field down to three of the LEAST qualified to hold that office.

Didn't read every comment, but isn't the whole point that Ferraro rose to the VP slot merely because she was a woman?

Neither is qualified for the jobs they ran for. To assume otherwise is to be a democrat.

Am I missing something?
