What a moron. The czechs didn’t choose the communists but would they chose fascists like hillary and barry after getting rid of the communists? From what I read about the czechs they seem to be fairly conservative. Their president is one of the more outspoken opponents of the religion of global warming. The dried up old elitist may get a rude awakening when she realizes she isn’t in Aspen anymore.

d1carter on March 11, 2008 at 11:03 PM

Yeah; Bush was the reason. That’s why she waited until he was months from being out of office.

Let’s face it: She wanted to regain citizenship in her now-tolerable homeland and take advantage of the situation to malign Bush. Also, The Independent might be spinning her words and actions in a manner even more anti-Bush. Note that she’s still a U.S. citizen. That’s hardly what I’d call “defection.”

Apparently this epidemic is ongoing,no one is sure of
the source of BDS,it strikes without warning, and it seems
to be more attracted to those who are grateful of being
taken in by America, after years of citizenship.

Then when a Republican administration takes place it
strikes, maybe BDS,but it could also be classified as
Republican Derangement Syndrome!Haha.

This is a great illustration of the real danger of our unprotected borders and screwed up imigration policies. Wait till the muslims take control of europe. Our government will open its arms and morons like her will be flooding our country and will have not learned a thing. They will bring their post modern welfare state laziness and immorality to the US and hasten our collapse. I’m more worried about the french, germans and belgians flooding our country then the mexicans and central Americans.

This woman is the worst kind of sports figure. As a huge tennis fan, I can say she was a great tennis player, but the poorest of sports and extreamly ungracious. A loss never meant she got beaten, it only meant she did something wrong. It was always about her. Apparently it still is.

Before communism fell Nadia Comăneci was interviewed here in the U.S. She spewed so much misinformation and nonsense and was lucky I couldn’t punch her through the TV. I understood that the communists had a grip on her, but she could have remained quiet. Subsequently she came here. I could never get over her original stupidity.

Martina has just surpassed that status. I know Csecks, here and there, who will not understand this at all. BDS is what it is. If they don’t win in Nov. they’ll be interned by the thousands.

The country is not George Bush or the government. The United States is more than just the people sitting in power in Washington.

If she can’t see that, then, well, to be frank, I’m glad she’s leaving.

It’s an extremely self-centered and narcissitic view, to be honest.

Americans don’t leave their homeland. If the people running the country are bad or are doing a lousy job, we elect new ones. We stay and fight for the country, for our cause, for what we think is right.

We don’t run.

Speaking of old communism… Navratilova seems the typical former Soviet Bloc athlete. Her exodus upon the Soviet Union’s fall had less to do with love for America than to avoid being lynched by those freed. In her homeland many probably hadn’t forgotten Martina was part of the Champagne and jet set while her less privileged countrymen were rotting in the gulags and salt mines.

There’s another reason for her to keep her dual citizenship: Just in case her hometown finds her return about as welcome as Brezhnev’s.

jgapinoy on March 11, 2008 at 11:57 PM

U.S. Dept. of State

However, dual nationals owe allegiance to both the United States and the foreign country. They are required to obey the laws of both countries.

While this oath is taken by new U.S. citizens

“absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty.”

no international treaties govern dual citizenship. Each country decides how to treat dual citizens.

Internationally, more and more the idea of dual citizenship is an accepted one, including here in the U.S. I’m not claiming that this is good/bad, just that it is.

I refuse to vote for McCain at this point because he isn’t a conservative and has consistently told social conservatives to f**k off. I’d rather sit on my hands and let Obama take office than “hold my nose” and vote for a man who I know is no better than Obama when it comes to upholding and respecting my values.

CP on March 12, 2008 at 12:21 AM

This reminds me of an old movie I saw over thirty years ago in school, about the American Revolution, and there was this chap, who cursed the creation of the United States, and made the misfortunate statement… “to hell with the United States, I would be blessed if I never saw it again….” (sorry the title escapes me)

His punishment, he was sent to sea on an American Navy Ship, never to land back into the United States again.

Over the years, crew after crew, as the tour ended, he was transfered to another ship, leaving his old shipmates and new friends who were eager to go home behind, and sent on his way…….

In the end, there was an old man, who had not placed a foot on the free and growing country that was becoming the United States of America, left alone in his room.

The twist? During his exile, he created maps and collected all the news of the growing country from crew to crew, and became and expert on the country that he once cursed, only to die alone, but one who loved the country he was banished from above all else.

Ms. Navratilova, have a pleasant journey…….

Still, by the standards of American liberal “protesters” who endlessly compare our nation unfavorably with toilet states and stagnant fairytale economies, actually doing something measurable, even if it’s purely narcissitic and symbolic, makes her a hero, I guess.

Doesn’t the Communist government in Czechoslovakia lock up homosexuals in an insane asylum, Martin(a)?

“I was never ashamed of my sexuality. I never was, even growing up in Czechoslovakia where homosexuals were put into the insane asylum. I never thought there was anything wrong with loving another human being. I never saw anything wrong with it. A lot of people had issues with it, like my parents, but I never lost sleep over it.”

SilverStar830 on March 12, 2008 at 12:40 AM

Bush is such an unattractive figure of a President that I understand her sentiments. As much as I resent McCain’s immigration policy, I don’t think he’ll come even close to generating the disgust for the United States that Bush has. It’s not that I think people should hate America, but when Americans pin a “Kick Me” sign to their back by voting for someone like Bush, what the hell do we expect?

Looking at a slightly bigger picture, I’m glad Bush invaded Iraq, but is it too much for a President who is able to communicate why we invaded? Or for that matter, a president who is able to communicate at all?

thuja on March 12, 2008 at 12:51 AM

Unattractive in what way?

I get the sense that all you care about is how the UN, EU and world in general view our national leader. It doesn’t matter to you how much influence the American economy has on the world economy. It doesn’t matter to you how much the American military keeps the world safe. It doesn’t matter to you how much our form of government leads to a stable world.

All you care about is the superficials. Go back to watching the “E” channel and caring about the everyday movements of Britney, Lindsey, or Paris. You clearly aren’t interested in real issues or adult responses to real events.

TexasDan on March 12, 2008 at 1:05 AM

The United States should not allow dual citizenship.

No country should. But the United States has a fairly unique reason for prohibiting the practice. Choice. Everyone who is born here is free to leave, and everyone who comes here is free to leave.

That’s their choice. But to be, and call yourself, an American, should mean something more than just being able to say you hate our current president.

Seems like that’s all some people can seem to muster about being an American citizen these days.

Jaynie59 on March 12, 2008 at 1:08 AM

Bush is a horrible President. No doubt about that. However, what Martina did looks bad. I’m not usually in the business of sucking up to Americans because people who are most bent on insisting to accept thanks for my abiity to come here typically turn out to be the worst trash imaginable. And people who are really friendly and welcoming would never insist that I thank them.

That being said, anyone SHOULD be free to come and leave any country (through some legal process). However, few countries actually allow that. The US does. Because the people here are ok with that. And this is something that is worthy of reflecting upon and appreciating.

Wileygrl3 on March 12, 2008 at 1:18 AM

Thank you TexasDan, and for the rest:

A quote for the story: …. while being shuttled from one ship to another:

…”For your country, boy,” and the words rattled in his throat, “and for that flag,” and he pointed to the ship, “never dream a dream but of serving her as she bids you, though the service carry you through a thousand hells. No matter what happens to you, no matter who flatters you or abuses you, never look at another flag, never let a night pass but you pray God to bless that flag. Remember, boy, that behind all these men…, behind officers and government, and people even, there is the Country Herself, your Country, and that you belong to her as you belong to your own mother. Stand by her, boy, as you would stand by your mother…!” I was frightened to death by his calm, hard passion; but I blundered out that I would, by all that was holy, and that I had never thought of doing anything else. He hardly seemed to hear me; but he did, almost in a whisper, say, “Oh, if anybody had said so to me when I was your age!”

For the rest, learn your history, learn the history of this country and not the thirty second sound bytes you take as gospel from the MSM.

That being said, anyone SHOULD be free to come and leave any country (through some legal process). However, few countries actually allow that. The US does. Because the people here are ok with that. And this is something that is worthy of reflecting upon and appreciating.

What you just said doesn’t make sense. Either people are free to come and go or they aren’t (due to legal process). People should NOT be free to just come and go from any country. They may have their free-will to WANT to come and go..but the laws per country must come first. The US does not allow people to just come and go. I worked for an airline for 10 years and on International flights all passengers had to fill out a customs form as to what their residency status was and why they were traveling to the US. It was then up to US Customs to allow them entry into the US. Americans are okay with people entering the US ONLY when that entry is done legally and with some type of screening in place. Also, George W. Bush is not a horrible President just because you say so. Back up statements like that with facts and not one-liners taken from moveon.org.

Because, frevillage, I take offense that someone who’s heritage has not paved the streets for freedom in the world with the blood of their ancestors has the gall to bad mouth this country, and it’s current President, because of some lecture by a leftist college professor without knowing the true facts and sacrifice of history!

You piss on my President? You have a revionist view of history? Like I say to my Illegal Alien friends from Mexico, ……. why don’t you go home and fix your fu#*ed up country first, before you come here and open your small minded mouth.

That is why………..!

Nope..we didn’t debate in 5th grade. We were learning American History, English, Math, Science. You know, stuff you don’t see kids succeeding in to much today thanks to the leftist teachers union that has destroyed our public school system. And yes, I AM good!

It’s late, I am tired, and tired of you.

Sleep well under the blanket of Freedom and Security that the United States of America protects you in.

In the morning, I will go to work to feed my family, and happily support MY President and Country. Do I like everyting in my government, hell no, and I am involved, engaged, active to try to make things better, like defeating the Democratic Congress, and I vote. Do I support our troops? To the point I will stand a post, pick up a rifle, and defend them as best I can. They are the best of our best.

For you, you couldn’t even answer a simple question, “How long have you been in the United States?”

For me, it’s simple, I was born here, and for all it’s faults, I see past them and Love this country.

As for a “personal problem”, your wit strikes a fatal blow. Not for me, but your self-centered, elitist, condesending attitude. Your faux superiority, your self-importance, and high sense of self worthiness.

You have no idea what is to be a free……….

I pitty you……

Oh, please, it’s because of your precious el Presidente, and others like him, that your Mexican friend is here illegally in the first place, so please spare us your platitudes about how great your el Presidente is. If you like you Mexican friend then more power to you, but don’t expect the rest of us to pretend that those who made it possible for him or her to be here illegally somehow deserves our respect.
