“The thing is that we elected Bush. That is worse. Against that, nobody chose a Communist government in Czechoslovakia.”

Vaclav Klaus is one sharp cookie, who is not afraid to stand up for his principles. He also has a nice last name.
Johan Klaus on March 12, 2008 at 2:32 AM
Go back Martina and leave your citizenship here. I agree you should not be allowed dual citizenship. After all her money making here and how well she has lived here, she dare say that. And to all who hate this country and our President, take the trip with her and go live in a dictatorial country also. You don’t appreciate what you have or have sense on the affairs of the world. You don’t understand oppresion, but maybe live a life of self centeredness.

Actually, L don’t think he’s very comfortable with himself – he has all the symptoms of one who needs to denigrate order, so as to make his own liking for disorder to appear to be normal. It is a pandemic trait of the Left.

I do not understand why entertainers are ask questions about anything political. They almost always appear to be extremely ignorant.
Johan Klaus on March 12, 2008 at 3:03 AM
She is partially right about one thing.
Communism is slowly brewing in America.
Not with Bush, but in 2009 with Hussein, it might have access to power with the help of Soros.
Indy Conservative on March 12, 2008 at 4:04 AM
Since when does Navratilova’s opinion of America matter worth two hills of beans? She wants to go suffer under communism, fine by me. We don’t want you here if that’s the way you feel, Martina!
I care about what she says about as much as I care what comes out of someone like Tom Cruise’s craw. Besides, I always liked the Williams’ sisters better as tennis players. ;)
Jockolantern on March 12, 2008 at 4:11 AM
Memo to Butch Navratilova: Do America one last big favor and take Sundance O’Donnell with you!

Bush has been a disaster. I don’t know why anyone defends him. Ho hum. Roll on 8 years of McSame.

Glad to see this 8itch is thankful to the United States for everything she took from us over the years. Oh, and the fact that we had a little bit to do with her beloved homeland now being free and her being capable of going back there without fear of being shot!
Of course when she finds out how much they like us over there now, she will have to renounce yet another citizenship and move to Hugo-land.
conservnut on March 12, 2008 at 6:37 AM
Shut up and serve. And yes, I’ll have fries with that.
Immolate on March 12, 2008 at 6:44 AM
Nobody chose one? They chose to give the communists a large voting block in their parliament (38% in 1946).
Clement Gottwald, the communist leader, had informed his fellow Czechs that Moscow was the center of their party, and that they were taking their lead from Stalin– he made no bones about the type of rule he planned. And then the Czechs chose to give him a great deal of power.
That pretty much set the stage for the coup a few years later, which happened with only the threat of Soviet military intervention. How much did they value their freedom?
So, dear Martina, don’t pretend that the Czechs were innocent bystanders to a communist takeover. A people very often gets the government it deserves.

Don’t let the door hicha where the good Lord splicha.
Are you saying we deserved Clinton? What did we do to deserve that?
misterpeasea on March 12, 2008 at 7:00 AM
Martina . . . blow it out your ears or the orifice of your choice. Just pack your bags, catch the first airplane and get the hell out of here.

Her Martina – See Ya, wouldn’t want to be ya…

Martina meet Rosie meet Joy.

Millionaire athelete who benefited from U.S. advertisement dollars prefers communism to democracy.
Lady, if you are going to proclaim something, try to make sure it makes sense.
Don’t let the screen door hit ya where the good Lord split ya. And leave the U.S. citizenship at the door.
Hog Wild on March 12, 2008 at 7:34 AM

Ah, yes, land of the free. State an opinion and get told to get the hell out of the country. Wonderful.

Homosexual, Bush hating, American hating ingrate leaves US for jerk water country in EU.
I love a happy ending. Maybe this could become a trend.

This statement sums up this story perfectly…..

I don’t blame her. There are many really hot women in Prauge. You go girl, and don’t let the door smack your rather large behind on the way out. Just leave flowers at Reagan’s grave you ungrateful (bleep).

Tennis is not a man’s sport; Women’s tennis, now that’s a man’s sport.
RobCon on March 12, 2008 at 8:30 AM
She was a famous tennis player and then a famous dyke. Why consider her political opinions at all? Do you wonder what Britney Spears thinks about Iran’s nuclear intentions? Jeesh, this is a liberal news story, not a news story.

Tom_Shipley on March 12, 2008 at 7:46 AM
She didn’t actually defect. that is the word choice of the always accurate (/sarcasm) Independent. She is still a US citizen, she merely regained her Czech citizenship as well.
That said, I think her views are logically flawed as others have mentioned.
MannyT-vA on March 12, 2008 at 8:55 AM
Her dwindling “fortune” will go a lot further over there, too. Not a lot of successful business ventures since retiring, I’m betting.
ej_pez on March 12, 2008 at 9:33 AM
I would be more impressed if she didn’t hold dual citizenship.
Come on Martina, really put in on the line and fully renounce the U.S. But you won’t, and why is that?
Bishop on March 12, 2008 at 10:25 AM
She abandoned her homeland 30 years ago, showing cowardice then, why, would anyone expect any less from her now? Her US citizenship should be revoked…if it is so terrible here…leave…and show the courage of your convictions.
PatriotPete on March 12, 2008 at 11:01 AM

Come on now, I hear since the U.S. and Ronald Reagan liberated the Communist countries in Europe that the Czech Republic actually has running water now.
jimbo2008 on March 12, 2008 at 5:08 PM
I sure hope she doesn’t run around Prague badmouthing the US. Most of those former Warsaw Pact countries are very grateful to the US for keeping the pressure on the Soviets until they went broke and left (Poland is erecting a statue of Reagan). Too much grousing and Martina might get a punch in the nose. Then, she’ll try to sue and their court system will tell her to lump it.

We let Ross Perot off his leash.

This has always mystified me too. The left seems to think that the only ones qualified to answer questions on a given subject are the most ignorant.
They ask “environmentalists” (no credentials whatsoever) about how to control weather (as if they actually could) and how each of us is to live according to their preconceived, misguided, non-factual, and often contradictory prejudices.
They ask self-appointed busybody’s with no scientific training whatsoever which chemicals are to be declared “evil”, too. The state of California (aka “the Luddite State”) is well on its way toward declaring every substance known to man a “carcinogen”…as though they understood what they were talking about and had provided a rational alternative to any of them.
So far, this exercise in self-destructive leftist insanity has resulted in the death of 60 million human beings (and counting…) just due to the ill-considered and scientifically-unnecessary banning of DDT.
Unless we stop them, no telling how many more people are going to be sacrificed via starvation and disease on the altar of “global warming”!!
