Pete Wilson did that in California. Don’t you have more power as a governor of a large state than as a junior Senator? More importantly, aren’t you more nominatable as a governor (this strange election season notwithstanding)?

Plus he and the LAPD chief are old compadres.

As an Illinoisan, we could use a governor like Rudy. This state has become the most over taxed, corrupt, and biggest laughing stock in the country. If we couldn’t woo Fred to our state, I would happily take Rudy just to see the look on Dicky Turbin’s face. What a state full of political jackass’s.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Can you really hope for a more conservative governor of New York?

Considering he’s pro-Amnesty? Yes. HOPE, that is.

All things being relative, Rudy could actually nudge this bastion of liberalism noticeably to the right.

But if Obama wins the White House, Rudy would probably make a great Governor of New York, and could probably get elected, because he could run even with the Democrats in NYC and win the more Republican areas upstate. Of course, he’s already on his third wife, so he needs to keep clean in that part of his life.

As for LA, fuhgeddaboudit! Rudy would (rightfully) be seen as a carpetbagger, and wouldn’t be accepted by the locals. Rudy’s a New Yawka, and that’s where he can win and do some good.

Anybody with a pulse would be better than our horrible horrible mayor.

Or even better run for Governor of CA.

Let’s replace our horrible RINO governator with the less horrible RINO Rudy.

I wish he were a social conservative, but I sure like him anyway!

After Spitzer’s irresponsible personal behavior, New Yorkers will turn to Rudy to restore a sense of wholesomeness and family values to Albany.

L.A. could use a competent mayor, but Rudy? Might be a bit of a carpetbagger. Although he would definitely be better than Tony Villar–especially if he could do something about all the gang violence (and the illegales)!

New Yorkers (mainly downstate, which has the lion’s share of the population) only vote for Republicans when the Democrats hold all major levers of power at the local, state and national level and conditions continue to deteriorate. That’s held true all the way back to the Tamminy scandals of the early 20th Century (the only exceptions being John Lindsay in 1965, who was a liberal at heart and reminded voters of the recently assassinated John F. Kennedy, and Bloomberg in 2001, because as liberal as New York is, with the nation’s financial capital to protest they’re not moonbat crazy and didn’t want ex-Nader Raider Mark Green guiding the post 9/11 economic recovery efforts).

Given a President Hillary or Obama, a Speaker Pelosi and a Senate Majority Leader Reid in 2009, if things suck in NYS, then Rudy would have the same chance he did in 1993 against Dinkins or that Pataki had in ’94 against Cuomo. But under current conditions, if the GOP holds the White House, Patterson will be turned into a celebrity and barring any major problems, the big media outlets would blame all of the state’s problems on the Bush-McCain Administrations, and Rudy won’t try to fight that battle just to move to Albany.
