Sure. I do all sorts of things for my wife that aren’t much fun–shopping, entertaining in-laws, etc. If she were in a situation where she might lose her career or face criminal charges I’d step up. Family comes first. Circle the wagons, fight off the press, handle the legal problems and make sure the kids are OK. After that decide if the marriage is still worth it.
