Remember Randy Pausch? He’s the Carnegie Mellon University professor dying of pancreatic cancer whose farewell lecture became a viral video hit. KCAL9 has a follow-up on his latest efforts in southern California to help raise funds for pancreatic cancer research:

Ah, another expert on Judaic issues. That’s why a lot of Jews are lawyers, eh? I bet you also know that we control the banks, hollywood and several governments, including our own. Furthermore, I did NOT insult anyones religion, I just stated Judaism is a great religion. Just like any Christian or Muslim would state the same about their own. If that offends you, that’s YOUR choice.

Anyone notice that the guy looks alot like “Wilson” on “House”?
srhoades on March 7, 2008 at 8:15 PM
I think PrezHussein is really Allapundit and he planted that first post. Or he could have had someone plant it. He’s leaning back at his Mac just laughing and laughing!
edgehead on March 7, 2008 at 8:31 PM
PrezHussein is an Obama supporter.
As in President Barack Hussein Obama, Jr.
I.E., don’t take the troll bait.

Oh, and your not?? LOL You bring religion into every discussion as well.

I was just thinking the same exact thing!
madame_bluetooth on March 7, 2008 at 11:11 PM
Wow!! This guy is an inspiration, that’s really the way to go out—fighting all the way. He looks death in the face, continues to march on, and does something about it. That’s true courage.

Like they say, great minds and couch potatos . . .

leftnomore,
I think you should focus on the pebble between your ears instead of my view of mythology. The fact that you can write something like this tells us everything we need to know about you.
As to my future, when my body can no longer circulate oxygen to my brain, my brain cells will seek to function, my memories will dissipate into scattering atoms, as will my consciousness. I will not wake up to some light drenched long haired beat poet named Jesus anymore than I will wake up to Zeus or Buddha or any other mythological figure which you would laugh at. You Jesus Whigs only laugh at one less religion than I do.
If you were born in India would you not be lecturing to me about “the eternal path”? Of course “God” didn’t “choose” the Indians to be his “people”, though did “he”? He had to wait until you Okies from Muskogee came along. That must be his omniscience kicking in.
Praise Jesus, Huckleberry.

I meant “cease to function”.

Full speech as on Oprah.

Nice speech, even if it is Post-Modern Sophistry.
Tim Burton on March 8, 2008 at 10:40 AM
Not to burst your bubble, but your memories are not material motion of atoms in your brain.
The motion of atoms can be described in terms of fast or slow, straight or curved, up or down. However, none of these qualities or combinations can be identified as true or false, which is an essential quality of thought. Therefore, thinking is not motion of any kind. Hence, it is rational to say that True and False are immaterial.
Based from this rational argument:
Major Premise: If all is matter, then thinking must be motion of atoms in the brain.
Minor Premise: Thinking is not motion of atoms in the brain.
Conclusion: It is not the case that all is matter.
Tim Burton on March 8, 2008 at 10:45 AM
Thinking is absolutely motion. Braincell activity is a process of motion, which is why the brain consumes more than 20% of our body’s energy while being only 2% of our body weight.
You may want to revisit the issue with your Freshman Logic teacher at Bob Jones University.

No, that’s not at all what you said, but apparently you infer things that aren’t there and expect others to do the same, as I never once said a negative thing about Jewish people.
Esthier on March 8, 2008 at 4:54 PM
I don’t either and have argued against those who would. I’m not trying to argue with you, I was only explaining why Jews don’t make the effort to spread their gospel while Christians do.
And for the record, you are the one who claimed Jews care more about a person’s actions than anything else. What is that if not legalism?
Esthier on March 8, 2008 at 5:01 PM
That is correct, in Judaism deeds are more important than faith or words. That means, if you commit murder in Judaism, you are not absolved of the sin merely by saying you believe in the word of G-d. That’s not legalism, that’s morality.
Andy in Agoura Hills on March 8, 2008 at 6:49 PM
Andy, if you’re still reading this:
1. YES, believe it or not, I actually HAVE been to Chabad/Lubavitch services.
2. Since you attend their services every Shabbat (that’s “Saturday Sabbath” for you Goyim (non-Jews) out there) I’m going to assume you’re Hasidic or at least leaning that way.
3. I have WITNESSED Hasidim patently ignore goyim when all the non-Jew wanted was a little help or assistance with something. Or look at the goy like they wanted to SPIT on them. You tell me - - is that tolerant and forgiving, or utterly narrow-minded and hateful? What a FINE way to follow Rabbi Hillel’s teaching. I’m not saying all Hasids are like that, but the ones who are, are HYPOCRITES.
As for my earlier point about belief vs. works, which you also responded rather arrogantly to, the point I was trying to make was that Christianity puts ultimate importance on Jesus as the Messiah and being every Christian believer’s personal “savior”, i.e., guarantor of getting into Heaven and being with God there. The point I was also trying to make was that Christianity places extreme emphasis on belief in Jesus as such to guarantee a good afterlife.
Judaism focuses on how well and righteously one lives in THIS life, in the here and now, and also doesn’t really delve much at all into the concept of an afterlife. I was NOT suggesting that Christianity requires one to believe and Judaism does not. Quite the contrary. BOTH require belief. One simply puts greater priority on what one believes relative to how one acts, versus the other.
I hate to say this, Andy, but the WAY you’ve been responding hasn’t done much to win friends for the Jewish people. Your responses stray VERY close to nastiness.
This is the way you try to win an argument? As some of my friends would say, “Oy, GeVALT.”
Shirotayama on March 8, 2008 at 6:52 PM
They actually own a house on nastiness; you’re far too kind.
By the by, Christian theology requires believing that the only thing that matters is eternal salvation by the blood of Christ.
emailnuevo on March 8, 2008 at 7:37 PM
Thank God he didn’t go before congress and ask for a subprime bailout.
JellyToast on March 8, 2008 at 9:52 PM
Your concept of Judaism is twisted. Judaism does NOT require a Jew to believe G-d exists in order to be a good Jew.
Now, as for nastiness, that’s your opinion. My opinion is that I am combating the ignorance of those that smear the Jewish religion. I do not tolerate stupid posts about an ethnicity. Especially Judaism. Check out the idiots that posted about Angelina Jolie a week ago.
So, enough of this drivel. Its boring.
Andy in Agoura Hills on March 8, 2008 at 10:11 PM
Right on, true that. The biggest idiot under the Jolie posting would be Far Right Nutbag Debbie Schlussel, who makes most humans, including jews, seem inhuman, unkind, cruel, sick and twisted.
She attacked AP out of left field like nobody’s business, and as if anyone really cares about what she thinks about Angelina Jolie anyway.
Debbie Schlussel’s opinion about Jolie is as worthless as a gift card to The Sharper Image.
AprilOrit on March 8, 2008 at 10:42 PM
That sort-of ruins the whole “monotheistic religion” thing, no? I suppose one could argue that the commandments could be obeyed as if there were a God, and that the existence of God is not necessary so long as one commits to the rules, etc.; nonetheless, it’s hard to imagine an atheistic Jew. Besides Woody Allen, I mean.
As for Jolie, there are legitimate objections to her performance as God’s gift to children; nonetheless, your arguments against her aren’t augmented by the foul language and the vitriol - quite the opposite.

There sure are a lot of people that feel the need to take away from Professor Paush’s commentary….
Pancreatic Cancer kills in months. He knows he has a death sentence and has used that time to help others.
FOrget all the crap that has been thrown into the discussion, think about a man, a terrible disease and the mans decision to focus on others.
While he doesn’t sound like a believer, God bless him for choosing to make a difference in others lives, not just curle up in a corner and fade away.
Fuzzball on March 9, 2008 at 12:13 AM
I earlier asked the question ‘would people listen to this guy’ if he weren’t physically appealing, or at least basically fit and healthy. I am not making a statement on his looks, rather the weight people lend to others’ statements when the speaker looks good to them. If this speaker were slobby, few would have ever paid attention. It is a sad thing, and tho it can’t be proven here, I believe his nice, all-American look gave his video the power to be seen.
So, chill dude, I am not judging him any more than you are.
leftnomore on March 9, 2008 at 3:30 AM
Ummm, Andy in Agoura Hills:
Your next to last post was at 6:49 pm. EASTERN time.
Agoura Hills in in the L.A. area.
Which would have made it 3:49 pm.
BEFORE Sunset. BEFORE Havdalah.
Meaning, it was still Shabbat.
Isn’t typing on a computer keyboard to blog considered WORK just as driving a car or turning on/off a light switch or cooking? So, Mr. Hasid, were you BREAKING Shabbat or not?
Please, go ahead and give me the legalistic rationalization for your blogging on a Saturday.
