Palestinian “resistance” liberates 10 yeshiva students from their corporeal forms; Update: 500-600 bullets; Update: Hezbollah connection?

Reports are conflicting but, true to glorious mujahid form, they went after the “hard” targets, opening fire in either the dining hall or the library. Around 35 are wounded as I write this but some of those are bound to become fatalities. Were there celebrations afterwards? Who are we talking about here?

Yitzhak Dadon, a student, said he was armed with a rifle and waited on the roof of a nearby building. “He came out of the library spraying automatic fire … the terrorist came to the entrance and I shot him twice in the head,” he said.

In Gaza, the militant Hamas stopped just short of claiming responsibility. “We bless the (Jerusalem) operation. It will not be the last,” Hamas said in a statement.

In Gaza City, residents went out into the streets and fired rifles in celebration in the air after hearing news of the attack on the seminary.

CNN heard the celebrations, too. One gunman may still be on the loose; while we wait for resolution, consider two points from Omri Ceren. One: Given that terror attacks typically take weeks or even months to plan, how is this “retaliation” for Israel’s incursion into Gaza? And two: How exactly is Fatah a “neutral” party in the Israel/Hamas standoff when the jihadis here probably infiltrated the yeshiva from the West Bank?

Update: More from Ceren. Maybe an idle boast. Exercise caution.

A Palestinian source told Ynet that the Imad Mugniyah cells of the Al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, Fatah’s military wing, carried out the terror attack in Jerusalem that left eight dead along with another Palestinian organization whose named he refused to make public. According to the source, the attack was carried out as a response to “the Israeli crimes in the (Gaza) Strip and the killing of (Hizbullah arch terrorist Imad) Mugniyah.” However, other Palestinian sources said that the claim of responsibility was not credible. (Ali Waked)

Update: They weren’t there to wound.

Update: Israel Matzav has BBC video.

Update: Debbie Schlussel’s sources say the group came from Gaza but was allied with Hezbollah (no stretch given the Mughniyeh name). Ceren is skeptical, but notes that evidence points to Israeli Arabs as the culprits. Hezbollah’s been trying to recruit them for years.

Palestinians have such a sick culture of hatred and violence. It makes me ill that human beings can act this way.

Lance Murdock on March 6, 2008 at 3:47 PM

Can you imagine what would happen if the Israelis were really as bloodthirsty as the Arabs make them out to be? The Arabs are lucky that they’re not fighting my American ancestors circa 1860. Those folks knew how to conquer land from indigenous people. Of course, they didn’t have to worry about screaming Sioux spokesmen on CNN.

MY prayers are with the families and with Israel. I hope Israel does a ‘job’ and I mean a ‘good job’ on these murders.

First off this “operation” looks to be well coordinated. So this is in no way retaliation for Gaza. The Palestinains know that the media is stupid enough to believe that nonsense and the MSM will start shouting again about the “cycle of violence.”

amerpundit on March 6, 2008 at 4:06 PM

Frankly, the Israeli’s should STFU, rinse off the blood, have a good hearty laugh, shrug their shoulders and bend over just a little further so the Pallies can jam it a little deeper next time.

My sympathy for a natiion that refuses to defend herself only goes so far.

Israel has the power to end this problem, but they choose to do nothing. Oh well, enjoy the blood fest.

my thoughts and prayers are with the families. I am Israeli and am watching our news the poliece have confirmed 8 Israelis dead (in their teens and early 20’s) there was one terrorist who was also killed by an army officer who lived near by and heard the gun shots and ran into the Yashiva. there are at least 7 hurt (3 very bad major life threatining)

This Yashiva was the first Yashiva in Israel (it was founded before the state it’s self) It is also a very well respected the most among religous zoinist.

Today is the first day of the jewish month of “Adar” this is the month that Purim is in it is soppessed to be the happeist and a party was going to start at the Yashiva at the time the terrorist entered.

sko17 on March 6, 2008 at 4:15 PM

Good on the student with a rifle. Silly thing to say maybe in such a tragic case, but in a small way I’m jealous… taking a terrorist scumbag down with 2 head shots must be satisfying. Sadly must pale into insignificance with the loss of life though.

VeniVidiVidic on March 6, 2008 at 4:16 PM

After watching the video on your earlier post on Wafa Sultan, I can only wonder how anyone would think Palestinians want peace in any form.

Dan Gillerman, Israel’s UN ambassador is on Fox now. He is a wonderful spokesman for Israel…

So has he called on the Israeli Supreme Court to maybe consider a response using real bullets or will he demand Peace Now to invade Gaza with flowers and chocolates?

The Israelis have become a pathetic shell of their former selves.

maybe a nuke in Tel Aviv, might, just might wake them up.

mylegsareswollen on March 6, 2008 at 4:19 PM

I personally blame Olmert for this. He has been the worse PM Israel has ever had and should be erase from Israel’s political histroy.

Lance Murdock on March 6, 2008 at 4:31 PM

The Israelis get it why don’t we.

An armed student stopped something that was terrible and getting worse. It could’ve been worse with a higher body count.

Fortunately this seminary was not a gun-free zone and a student stopped it with two head shots.

I was downtown, not far away, when this happened. I’ve never felt particularly unsafe in Israel before, but after something like that, especially with police helicopters still hovering above looking for escaped suspects, you just feel like you’ve got a target on you. Praying for the families, and for the peace of Jerusalem.

Hmm. Shooting guns into the air wildly in celebration. That sounds to me like a hostile act, or at least a reckless one. What are the legal issues surrounding an artillery battery that gets bearing and range on the noise and fires a dozen or so shells fused to explode about six meters above ground?

FYI: Atlas Shrugs has an on-scene report from the crime scene from Naomi Ragen.

Good question. I’d preferably have a F-15I or F-16 fly overhead, claim being fired upon and drop bombs on them - that should resolve the legal issues.

Savage is on the air now and he is ON FIRE about this vicious massacre.
Some of his points:
-Olmert is weak
-Rice is no friend of Israel
-GWBush is too tight with the Saudis and the Palis (and no real friend of the Israelis)
-McCain’s silence in the wake of this incident is NOT to his credit (and presages more of GWBush’s inertness/obtuseness with regard to Israel).
-The despicable MSM (BBC, Reuters, AP) are NOT calling these terrorist killers terrorist killers — but just “gunmen,” etc; nor are they calling the victims children or students — but just “people”
-the MSM are evincing zero outrage over this, well, outrage
-the Palestinians are CELEBRATING this attacks, shouting “Allahu Akhbar!”

The “heroic martyrs” killed defenseless children. The Palestinians are out in the streets celebrating the murder of children. On Power Line there is a picture of a man holding a child and shooting a pistol into the air in celebration. He is laughing at the murder of children.

What is that child learning?

The Israelis are stuck, because the Hamas thugs are firing rockets into Israel from ’safe’ houses, using women and children as shields. To take the attackers out means killing the shields.

Is there an alternative to re-occupying Gaza, or carpet-bombing the place?

Maybe: Go after the Hamas leadership, steadily, constantly, effectively, publicly. Turn off the power. Stop the supplies.

And it’s time for George W. Bush to go after Iran, the puppet-masters of Hamas, Hezbellah, and the Palestinians. Take out their leadership.

MrLynn on March 6, 2008 at 9:41 PM

In the wake of the latest massacre of innocent Israeli civilians at the hands of a Palestinian terrorist, I think it is time that we as Americans, and, indeed, the rest of the civilized world come to some pretty hard conclusions about the Palestinians.

For decades now, the US has tried to achieve some sort of a diplomatic balance in the Middle East and achieve a peace between the Israelis and Palestinians. A noble goal, perhaps, but I don’t think it is possible.

For all of my adult life, I have been reading about one Palestinian act of terror after another. There were the plane hijackings after the 1967 war. There was the Munich Olympics massacre. There were terror attacks on the Rome and Vienna airports, in which innocent Europeans were killed. There was the Achille Lauro boat hijacking in the 1980s in which Leon Klinghofer, an elderly American Jew in a wheelchair, was murdered and dumped overboard. Why was he singled out? Because he was an American Jew.

As the years passed, there were more plane hijackings, including one in Lebanon in which an American servicemen was killed in cold blood. There was the bombing of the American Embassy in Beirut and the Marine barracks in Lebanon.

In the past few years, we have witnessed the suicide bombings in Israel that have killed so many innocents on buses and in pizza parlors.

On 9-11, Palestinians danced in the streets, just as they are dancing in the streets at today’s news of 8 seminary students being murdered in Israel.

In addition, Palestinians cannot even live peacefully with each other, as one faction kills the other over control of “Palestine”.

I could write all night about the long list of senseless violent acts by Palestinians, and I would still leave out numerous outrages.

Tonight, I am asking myself- why does one American administration after another try so hard to bring about peace between Israel and people who do not want peace? The fact is that Palestinians do not want peace. They do not want a two-state solution. They want it all, and they want Israelis/Jews either killed or driven into the sea or exile. They, like their Arab brethren in neighboring lands, cannot accept the idea of a Jewish state in the region. What they want is for all of the area to become Palestine.

But if there is a two-state agreement, what kind of state would this Palestine be? A sovereign entity that will work to undermine its neighbor inch by inch? A state that will make deals and alliances with Iran, Libya and Syria? Will it be, in effect, a terrorist state that will conspire with America’s enemies even while we pour in aid? I think the answer is clear.

The truth is that the Palestinians are no friends of ours, and we should stop pretending they are.

Sorry folks, you can call me a racist all you want, but I have concluded that these people are not capable of running a responsible and peaceful country. If I am proved wrong, I will apologize.

The truth is that the Middle East could have had two states back in 1948. That was the UN plan. It was rejected by the Arabs, who quickly went to war-and were defeated. They tried again in 1967 and 1973 and failed. So the Palestinians resort to killing innocents-women, old men and children. How courageous.

And what is the reaction of the World? The Europeans tremble in their boots, held hostage by their already volatile Muslim populations and their need for oil. The UN is openly hostile of Israel and condemns every act of self-defense or retaliation carried out by the Israelis. When Israel retaliates against this latest act of terror-as it will and should, the UN will pass another resolution condemning the Jewish state. To most of the Europeans and the UN, the Jews are always the “inconvenient people”, standing in the way of friendly relations with the oil producing countries. Ironically, the Germans, given their unfortunate history, are probably Israel’s best friend in Europe.

Here at home, we are allowing new generations of Muslim immigrants and their anti-American anarchist allies on college campuses to stir up racial hatred, not only against Israel, but against Jews-and against our own country as long as we support Israel’s right to exist. On university campuses, Muslim Student groups hold regular rallies and bring in hate-filled speakers to denounce Israel, Jews and America, glorifying suicide bombers. My own campus at UC Irvine is a classic example. Just this week, the MSU is sponsoring yet another anti-Israel event with the usual suspects of radical speakers like Amir Abdel Malik Ali and Mohammed Al-Ali-documented anti-Semites. They are being joined in their tirades by a few radical professors. Meanwhile, the administration and faculty hide under their desks and talk about free speech-also taking verbal shots at those who dare to criticize.

So what do we do? Do we in the spirit of expediency, allow the Israeli people and nation to be thrown under the bus and ignore the murderous outrages? I say no.

It is time that the US, Europe and all nations who care about common decency and civilized behavior take a stand for Israel. No cause can justify the slaughter of innocents.

Personally, at this point, I don’t care much what Israel does to protect its people against this wanton murder. I will support them. If and when the Israeli Defence Force succeeds in wiping out the terrorists, once and for all, I will be dancing in the street.

Excellent post, Gary!

Let me add that if more people like yourself stood up and condemned the anti-Semitic radicals on college campuses, maybe it would help both the colleges and the government, which draws upon the college elites for personnel, realize that there can be no negotiating with terrorists who murder children, and that the Palestinians have forfeited any right to a ‘two-state solution’.

This is a part of the horrible cost paid for our governments unwillingness to produce our own, so, again, mainly, the blood is on American liberal hands (regardless of affiliation).

When we’re producing enough more of our own and Islam is feeling the effects of supply and demand, Muslim nations will eliminate the radical menace themselves.
