Alerting The Media

Earlier today, Pajamas Media’s PJM Political show on the XM Satellite Radio channel featured an interview with me, conducted by Ed Driscoll. You can listen to the entire one-hour show at this link, or you can listen to just my segment here. Ed and I talk about the presidential race and my move to Hot Air.

At 11 pm ET tonight, I’ll be talking with Alan Colmes on his Fox radio show. We’ll discuss the bombing story — and I have a suspicion that he’ll challenge me on my assumption this morning that it was an anti-war protest attack. Later developments appear to have confirmed the nature of the bombing, and I’m looking forward to chatting with Alan about the story.

UPDATE: Meh.  After the letter confirmed this as an antiwar nut, Colmes didn’t have much of an argument left.  Instead, he wanted to know why I didn’t write more about Muslim-directed hate crimes in America.  I told him that I don’t write much about Jewish-directed hate crimes either, and there are a lot more of the latter than the former.  It turned into a weird sort of chickenhawk argument — that if I didn’t keep track of the hate crimes against Muslims, then I’m somehow not supposed to keep track of attacks on military recruiters.

Strange, and disappointing.

It’s getting to where I can’t stand to listen to him on TV anymore. And Hannity just let’s him go on and on. He sits there and argues even when he’s been proven wrong and the guest is laughing at him. Just shut up already.

atxcowgirl on March 6, 2008 at 9:43 PM

Even without the later events, the “What’s more likely” approach led me to conclude the same thing. Maybe even a ‘lone wolf’ little creep. But bombing recruiting offices is from a 40 year old playbook.

darkpixel on March 6, 2008 at 9:44 PM

atxcowgirl, my wife and i had that exact discussiion last night. alan’s gone from bad to unwatchable. hannity doesn’t have the heart to bash the poor dweeb

DrW on March 6, 2008 at 9:45 PM

Alan Colmes is a moron…

build the wall on March 6, 2008 at 9:46 PM

Colmes is there for one reason and one reason only.

Every time he opens his mouth he proves that Hannity is, after all, correct.

Et tu Brute on March 6, 2008 at 9:47 PM

Ask Alan why he said last night Hillary was only down 3,000 votes total against Obama when the number is closer to 700,000. The guy is a total tool!

TheBigOldDog on March 6, 2008 at 9:47 PM

Be ready for Alan to lament (speaking of the bomber)….

“Don’t you think the real issue here is we need to look for the reasons we as a society failed him and drove him to set that bomb off in the first place?”

And be sure to wash your hands afterwards … you don’t know where he’s been ….

Chimp 6 on March 6, 2008 at 9:48 PM

Alan probably thinks the explosion was just a bicycle tire blowout.

d1carter on March 6, 2008 at 9:49 PM

I think they’re both pretty irritating. I can’t watch it anymore.

samuelrylander on March 6, 2008 at 9:49 PM

No need to listen to Alan Colmes.

I’d like to live in the REAL world.

Indy Conservative on March 6, 2008 at 9:50 PM

Alan is a big tool, but he seems level-headed for a liberal.

SouthernGent on March 6, 2008 at 9:51 PM

He may be level-headed but I’m not so sure about his brain.

atxcowgirl on March 6, 2008 at 9:54 PM

I’m sure you’ll crush him on the radio, but he’ll never know it. He’s a true liberal after all.

I quit watching H&C as they’ve become lazy like O’Reilly. Always calling up the same tired scarecrows from the East Coast in-crowd.

Feedie on March 6, 2008 at 9:54 PM

Ask him if He-Man is nice in person.

Grayson on March 6, 2008 at 9:56 PM

I’ll be talking with Alan Colmes

I am truly sorry, Ed.

Colmes has become a caricature of himself by trying so hard to be the anti-Hannity.

labrat on March 6, 2008 at 9:58 PM

I’ll be talking with Alan Colmes

I didn’t really HA offered hazard pay as part of the deal. :P

lorien1973 on March 6, 2008 at 10:02 PM

AP suffers with the View; you suffer with Colmes. Michelle is a tough boss!

lorien1973 on March 6, 2008 at 10:02 PM

Ask him if

..the bomber is a white-conehead-pro life-fence builder does that qualify him as a terrorist?

..the bomber is a Islamic-former Gitmo-Israel is evil-no cartoonist does that qualify him for understanding, therapy, and a book deal?

Limerick on March 6, 2008 at 10:05 PM

Ask him if he likes the nickname Skeletor.

JammieWearingFool on March 6, 2008 at 10:08 PM

I recommend taking along some garlic, because it’s quite possible that Alan Colmes is one of the Unliving. I mean, has anyone ever seen him in the daytime?

ReubenJCogburn on March 6, 2008 at 10:11 PM

Alan is Sean’s stalking horse.

leftnomore on March 6, 2008 at 10:16 PM

Listening to Alan now . . . man this guy needs a call screener.

MirCat on March 6, 2008 at 10:17 PM

Back when I used to be able to watch the show, I often wished that Colmes was the conservative and Hannity was the liberal. Colmes’ ability to stay on message with a dogged determination, regardless of facts, reality and rationality lets him ‘win’ debates.

I think he IS smart, in terms of being to argue just about any subject and pull out obscure facts and ‘pseudo-facts’to support his position. He just lacks the wisdom and common sense to reach logical conclusions.

LegendHasIt on March 6, 2008 at 10:20 PM

Colmes is the master of the tu quoque argument. If you assert any negative fact about the Left, he’s Johnny-on-the-spot with “but isn’t it true that [conservative/Republican X] did [similar bad thing]?”

I see it again and again, and am always amazed that no one is ever prepared for it.

Russ on March 6, 2008 at 10:26 PM

Ed you could straighten out Alan Colmes, yesterday he said that McCain has a “Black Daughter”, his adopted daughter Bridget is actually Bengali(Bangladesh)

Bangladesh

Not even the same continent.

Chakra Hammer on March 6, 2008 at 10:35 PM

Night after night Colmes proves that his lips are super-glued to Hillary’s butt.

Beside the word sycophant in Webster’s Dictionary is Colmes’ picture.

pocomoco on March 6, 2008 at 10:39 PM

Ask Alan if he will EVER admit a conservative is right on any subject or if a conservative could do anything he would agree with…because he seems to be contrary just for the sake of being contrary. Which is tedious actually.

HawaiiLwyr on March 6, 2008 at 10:42 PM

BTW, I listen to his show on XM sometimes because I forget to turn the channel..

It’s amazing at the lack of call screening and what he allows on the air, also the calls coming in are very suspect, lots of racist calls coming in lately as if to make McCain supporters look racist(And by extension to demonize McCain himself).

Colmes should address this, is this the tactic that they are really wanting to use?(this was the theme that i picked up while listening yesterday)

Chakra Hammer on March 6, 2008 at 10:47 PM

The race bating Obama supporters need to give it a rest already.

Chakra Hammer on March 6, 2008 at 10:50 PM

Colmes will say something like

“Why do you always blame the terrorists for these bombings . If George Bush didn’t
make them mad we wouldn’t have these problems.”

Texyank on March 6, 2008 at 11:02 PM

Colmes ain’t the show. You don’t watch “Colmes America” on Sunday night. Colmes is there to prove FoxNews covers both sides of the arguement. It’s not Fox News Channel’s fault the other side of the arguement is silly, self defeating, and the idea it’s always America’s fault doesn’t fly with the country’s majority.

Rip him a new one Ed.

Hog Wild on March 6, 2008 at 11:12 PM

His job is to defend the left. That’s his shtick, and he is actually pretty good at it. Imagine going to work every day and trying to defend the indefensible. I disagree with him, but what do you want? Hannity and Hannity?

KCB on March 6, 2008 at 11:21 PM

I used to think Alan was sane. I think he’s picked up some of Hannity’s childish debate tactics.

- The Cat

P.S. Ugg, the caller that followed that segment has got to be a set up.

MirCat on March 6, 2008 at 11:40 PM

Alan Colmes is pathetic. I cannot stand him and he really appears funereal.

mariloubaker on March 7, 2008 at 12:08 AM

I’ll be talking with Alan Colmes on his Fox radio show.

My condolences. Did you lose a bet?

Strange, and disappointing.

Yes, yes he is.

fourstringfuror on March 7, 2008 at 12:43 AM

When Colmes can’t win his skewed liberal side of the debate, he’ll try to distract the viewing/listening audience by accusing the other person of personally attacking liberals.

By the way, the next person that calls into Alan’s show needs to suggest to him that he get a little sun. If Alan gets any more pale, someone will try to embalm him!

evenkeel on March 7, 2008 at 12:43 AM

but what do you want? Hannity and Hannity?

Gag me with a spoon.

chewydog on March 7, 2008 at 1:04 AM

Strange, and disappointing.

Ed!…It is quite improper that you would steal and appropriate his latest Performance Evaluation.

eeyore on March 7, 2008 at 1:30 AM

I wish you had asked him who hijacked his left eyebrow.

poodlemom on March 7, 2008 at 1:40 AM

Moral equivalence, do these people have anything else?

Grayson on March 7, 2008 at 1:50 AM

So typical of this tool.

I give Colmes credit, he’s not morally bankrupt, like so many of his leftest brethren.

He’s just terminally clueless.

Hawkins1701 on March 7, 2008 at 3:49 AM

Trashmouth liberals like Colmes seem to have “evolved” their (once) ability to debate/argue/reason into the “art” (sic) of diversion. Somewhat aggravating in 10-year olds, embarassing in adults like him.

Lockstein13 on March 7, 2008 at 5:47 AM

I know Fox News wants to keep things fair and balanced, but don’t think Alan Colmes would be more at home blathering like a bozo on Air(head) America?

pilamaye on March 7, 2008 at 6:41 AM

Strange, and disappointing. by Cap’n Ed

I find Alan Colmes and libs in general the same.

jimbo2008 on March 7, 2008 at 7:19 AM

Alan is an idiot. He can never debate or even discuss the topic at hand without engaging in “Ya buts”.

It’s amazing he even has a job there.

Montana on March 7, 2008 at 7:23 AM

I saw the headlines for fat traitor and caught Colmes’ dung eating grin photo simultaneously, and lost my equilibrium for a moment.

Is Fox just looking for a counterpoint to Hannity with this clown? He basically whines about the opposite of whatever Hannity wants, even if it’s a neutral topic. The show has become Sophomoric Debate 101, and is painfully boring.

Hening on March 7, 2008 at 8:09 AM

Alan is a big tool, but he seems level-headed for a liberal.

SouthernGent on March 6, 2008 at 9:51 PM

Hmmm, I find the Alan Colmes bashing here quite disturbing. For the benefit of our newest members who do not yet know me (hard as it might be to believe that anyone might not know HotAir’s Resident nearly almost practically famous Rock Star) I don’t come within a country mile of being a liberal. Yes I find myself irritated with Alan quite frequently, but not because he is a idiot or lunatic. But because he is intelligent lucid articulate and disturbing insightful. He also happens to hold opinions nearly diametrically opposed to those I hold.

He is a liberal with a brain that functions exceedingly well, that my friends is why he is on Hanity and Colmes. It’s also why Sean allows him to go on and on. Because he consistently brings up valid, even if irritating points. We cannot afford to dismiss Colmes as a whacked out crank, because that is precisely what he is not. These disparaging comments about him do nothing but make us look like dkos-kiddies. Unlike some of you, I have no intention of allowing myself to appear to be a conservative koskiddie.

doriangrey on March 7, 2008 at 8:20 AM

doriangrey
I saw Colmes (who allegedly is Jewish) carry water for Jew hating/killing terrorists. In April 2002 he carried water for Hamas and in July 2006 he carried it for Hizbullah. He said to Netanyahu “The other day there were 2,000 people holding an anti war demonstration in Tel Aviv,” whereupon Netanyahu said to him “Really, did they hold it in a phone booth, I must have missed it?” Colmes sounds and looks like an idiot.

Hilts on March 7, 2008 at 8:40 AM

Actually Kirsten Powers would do better in Colmes spot on Fox. She is liberal but not an ideologue and gets her point across without the grating mannerisms of Colmes, she is a classic liberal rather then an ideologue. Besides, she is better to look at.Whenever someone expresses fear of Iran’s nuclear intentions and suggestions possibly actions to counter it, Colmes inevitably calls them a fearmonger or a warmonger - the perfect lexicon of a 1930’s Stalinist apparatchik. Colmes obviously is not a communist or a Stalinist but his resort to their language to denigrate others is disturbing. I can see him back in1938 praising Chamberlain and denouncing Churchill.

Dick Morris by the way has been getting on my nerves lately on that show and the Frank Luntz segment is way over done.

Hilts on March 7, 2008 at 8:47 AM

Alan has to do what he is getting paid to do. Be the antagonist. He is usually good at what he does but as was stated before, it is very very difficult to defend the indefensible.

What is the difference between Alan Combes and Geraldo Rivera?

volsense on March 7, 2008 at 9:15 AM

Colmes didn’t have much of an argument left.

Heh, he usually doesn’t, he’s mostly good at asking inane questions, then interrupting the guest while they try to answer.

The only reason to keep Colmes on, is he is probably the only guy on TV who makes Hannity seem like he knows what he is talking about.
Dumb and Dumber…

For all of you new posters, you have got to love these sarcastic posts…
No one could think of Colmes as being intelligent, except a liberal…Ha, that was a great funny post.
Didn’t you say the same thing about Geraldo?

right2bright on March 7, 2008 at 10:29 AM

Colmes does serve two useful functions on Fox News:

1) He makes the perfect “straw man” for Hannity to knock down;

2) He lets everyone know what the NY Times and Washington Post are writing, so FoxNews viewers don’t have to risk losing their dinner by reading them.

He does have a very annoying habit of interrupting guests and asking three or four loaded questions without giving them a chance to answer, then leaving Hannity five seconds to thank the guest for coming on! Colmes’ theory is that he who talks fastest wins the debate…how very French of him!

Steve Z on March 7, 2008 at 11:06 AM

Morrissey is brilliant. He needs his own show.

PoliticallyIncorrectSandy on March 7, 2008 at 11:08 AM

The problem I have with Hannity & Colmes (and other shout-fests like it) is that my conversations with real people don’t resemble theirs at all. I think Alan Colmes’s worst nightmare would be to have a conservative guest come on the show, and have that person actually “steal” one of Colmes’s talking points, forcing Colmes to agree with him or her. Yeah. That would hurt.

Laserlawyer on March 7, 2008 at 11:35 AM

Al in St. Lou on March 7, 2008 at 12:19 PM

Allen Colmes is the reason I can’t watch Hannity and Colmes. He is such a moron that never strays from his liberal talking points. He’s always completely wrong on everything.
