BO doesn’t get it.

Every blog is a culture in itself. The culture is reflective of the values and ethics of the moderators and the owner. The INTERNET is like a public street on a global scale and it does not have a moderator or owner to impart their values and ethics establishing a culture.

No one is exposed to the culture of Huffington’s blog unless they chose to go to it. This is unlike the the Nazis in that the Nazis took control of the media once they were in power. Hufington only controlss her own blog. The world (and the INTERNET) is a big place.

BO is demonstrating that he is only marginally familiar with the communincation and information revolution that is occuring.

4Bear on March 6, 2008 at 11:01 AM

So, she is only training her "army" at her blog in the ways of hate, much like Hitler did with the Hitler Youth, and the SA troops before them?

These troops, once trained are supposed to do what?
Keep that hatred consolidated to that one specific blog?
Keep that anger inside and not let it be shown in public?

Mass training in the ways of hate and demonization of others, is a very dangerous thing and should be avoided.

I think the problem here is that Huffington has previously stated to both BO and Sean Hannity that she doesn't condone this sort of stuff on her website, but then goes on to say that people can write their opinions however they want, as if she has no way of censoring vile comments. I don't think BO placed enough emphasis on this last night. Arianna comes off as a do-gooder that claims she has no control over what's posted on her site. If it were moveon.org or DailyKos, he wouldn't have as much of an issue because this sort of stuff is expected there.

I concur.
The one part that may not be accurate, is BO does know more about the internet then he lets on. You can bet that he (his staff) search the internet for stories relating to him. He knows the internet from one position...how it relates to him. And because the internet does not revolve around him, he has a minor interest and knowledge.

Well said, and precisely the point O’Rielly’s trying to make.

Some of you folks need to brush up on your history. You’ll find that it always starts with “just words” spoken by “a few knuckleheads”.

O’Rielly’s just telling you what the other guys are thinking, what sort of demented neo-facsitic mindset they’re cultivating out there on the left wing.

Ignore them at your own peril.

SuperCool on March 6, 2008 at 3:23 AM

Maybe this is a petty distinction to make, but I think the crucial point here is that these "just words" are not being spoken - they are being typed on a website by someone hiding behind a pseudonym (like me!). If these idiots were out in public shouting death threats through a megaphone, then you could easily round them up and see how far the 'free-speech' argument gets you in court. For now, it seems to me at least, they conform to John Gabriel's Greater Internet Dickwad Theory, except replace 'Normal Person' with 'Left-wing Idiot'

How many of them are worse than his pal Geraldo saying he’d like to spit on Michelle, an offense which did not earn Spitty a banning from the Factor?

Yeah. Bill really torpedoed is credibility on this issue.

BO doesn't get it.

Every blog is a culture in itself. The culture is reflective of the values and ethics of the moderators and the owner. The INTERNET is like a public street on a global scale and it does not have a moderator or owner to impart their values and ethics establishing a culture.

No one is exposed to the culture of Huffington's blog unless they chose to go to it. This is unlike the the Nazis in that the Nazis took control of the media once they were in power. Hufington only controlss her own blog. The world (and the INTERNET) is a big place.

BO is demonstrating that he is only marginally familiar with the communincation and information revolution that is occuring.

While I respect Mr. O'Reilly on many issues he is just wrong here. First off he advocates censorship of the internet at almost every turn. Are there vile sites and/or commentors out in cyberspace of course...but freedom of speech requires that we as a society not stiffle the vile but refute it with logic and common sense. When you attack a extremist idea with an extreme resonse you diminish your own moral authority to object. Now if Mr. O'Reilly feels that censorship is okay for the extreme left or extreme right he is off base..I do think that profanity and deathwishes can be removed but some of what he highlighted is simply extreme speech which you find on most sites that allow comments. Maybe it is just because I am old but I remember some very vile comments that used to appear on Michelle Malkin's old site when she allowed open commenting...and most was dealt with by other commentors in the thread.
Cenorship is a slippery slope we need to avoid at all costs.

I agree with O'Reilly, there is a similiarty between early Natzi writings and comments posted on many web blogs, however, this will always be with free speech. In this world there is a seat for every ass. Time to move on O'Reilly, enough already.

It's been a tough week for Harvard. Granted, a 400 year old college with international renown and the highest profile graduates is due its share of notoriety, but first Michelle Obama displays her very special kind of stupid ("we make $1.5 million a year for doing nothing, and I can't afford to go to the fruit stand..."), and now O'Reilly.

Really, Bill, did you learn so little at Harvard that you really equate the political party that caused the deaths of 70 million people with some moonbats who comment at HuffPo from the basement of their Mom's house? Really?

Frankly I have no use for your "just kidding" comments.

Yeeesh… I cant believe I wasted my time looking at your site.

When you try to associate MM in your rant about confused people/a>

Sorry Allah, but no amount of O’Reilly calling the HuffPo bloggers Nazis is going to make me line up on their side. Mostly because I wonder in some regard if most of those commenters on those pages have nazi opinions and tendencies, just instead of Jews (though I imagine Zionists would be the correct liberal PC word for it) on their own its republicans, conservatives, libertarians, moderate democrats and most non-neutered white men. Do those comments mean Huffington’s a nazi? No, but you guys do well enough of a job policing your site, as does LGF and Ace and others, that not cleaning up those comments and/or banning the speakers is tacit agreement.

I’m sorry but how many times do they all need to say that they want us all dead and dismembered and whatnot before you at least listen and worry with some seriousness? Or is this very much like the 1930s with the Jews of Germany who kept saying “We’ve seen this before, it can’t be that bad or any worse then before”?

Well said, and precisely the point O'Rielly's trying to make.

Some of you folks need to brush up on your history. You'll find that it always starts with "just words" spoken by "a few knuckleheads".

O'Rielly's just telling you what the other guys are thinking, what sort of demented neo-facsitic mindset they're cultivating out there on the left wing.

Ignore them at your own peril.

Sorry I am not going to play that game or fall into your troll trap.

I could spew enough American slang and even show you where a boot really exists on a car if I wanted.

I think you made my case for me during this thread (re-read it). So thank you for that.
