The unanswered Rezko questions, courtesy of Chicago media

posted at 12:45 pm on March 5, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

Barack Obama insists that he has answered all of the relevant questions regarding his relationship with Tony Rezko, the Chicago political activist on trial in federal court for alleged corruption. The Chicago media begs to differ. The Sun-Times goes so far as to put their phone number in a headline and give Obama the questions ahead of time (via Memeorandum):

For months, Sun-Times investigative reporters have had a standing request to meet with Obama, face to face, to get answers to questions such as these:

• How many fund-raisers did Rezko throw for Obama?

• Obama is donating $150,000 to charity that Rezko brought into the campaign. But how much in all did Rezko raise?

• Did Rezko find jobs for Obama backers in the Blagojevich administration or elsewhere?

• Why did Obama only recently admit — after Bloomberg News broke the story — that Rezko had toured his South Side mansion with him in 2004 before he bought it?

Obama has not answered these questions, in Chicago or anywhere else. When a group of Chicago reporters traveled to Texas on Monday to get Obama on the record, he refused to take more than a few questions before stalking off angrily to the shouts of the media. The reporters from Obama’s hometown exposed Obama as unprepared and evasive.

The Sun-Times notes at the end that trials have a nasty way of producing answers to questions like these. Once testimony starts in the Rezko trial, the Chicago media may have even more questions. Eventually, the national media will have to start demanding some answers as well.

Isn’t the trial starting a machination of Karl Rove, at the very least? A VAST right wing conspiracy at the very most?

Just asking.

I question the timing.

Hey, quit hating on Obama. This just proves that the media is part of a VRWC — corporate interests that fear Obama’s message of change and hope. The media want things to stay the way they are because the media are big corporations too.

/sarcasm, although I’m sure that there will be lefties spouting this in all seriousness.

He better try to nip this one in the bud…if he can. But if the local media have been after him on this for months, then he probably doesn’t want to talk about it in any detail.

Agreed

On another note, the Clinton tax records are still not being talked about. But then, still waiting for Kerry’s service records, I guess some people get lesser scrutiny than others.

Yeah, but will the Sun Times still be around for the duration of the trial?

I am shocked! Shocked, I say!!!!!

Seriously, what did Obama expect it was going to be like in the “bigs” of politics? The Clintonian way of being able to get others to take the fall for you is not a skill that is learned by a few years in the Illinois Senate.

This IMO, is a story that is going to grow and become increasingly troublesome for Obama. I will probably gag if Clinton starts talking about the ethics of fundraising after all the crap she and her husband pulled during their “era of bad stewardship.”

pilamaye on March 5, 2008 at 1:16 PM

America is “just mean.”

- Michelle Obama.

What she really meant:

America should know, by now, that a person-of-color in politics cannot be questioned about anything. To question my husband is nothing but the latent racism that will always exist in this country. This is nothing but racism rearing it’s ugly head. All of you are racists. Every one of you. Even if my husband becomes President, America will always be a racist society. Now, I’ve said all that I intend to say, for today. I’m going to go back to my mansion, and discuss White House decorations with my husband. The racism in this country, the lack of opportunity for persons-of-color, is shameful.

Where is my butler?

lorien1973 on March 5, 2008 at 12:52 PM

There is no timing to question. This has been going on for quite some time and they ran the story AFTER attempting to get answers from Obama in Texas last week. Additionally, the Tony Rezko trial just started a few days ago.
Moreover, the longer he goes without answering the tough questions, the more the suspicion will surface. Furthermore, IF he becomes the democratic nominee, he’ll have to face tough conservative reporters, a’la John Kerry WRT the swiftboat ordeal.

RMCS_USN on March 5, 2008 at 1:32 PM

Nah, this is the Vast American Wings Conspiracy against Senator Mobster. Let’s keep race out of this, please.

That said, You – Barrack Obama – are going down, you #1 Cynic with all your cheap talk and your chief campaign surrogate bad-mouthing and trash talking America at every event!!!

As our next President John McCain said last night, “We’re not a country that prefers nostalgia to optimism; a country that would rather go back than forward. We’re the world’s leader, and leaders don’t pine for the past and dread the future. We make the future better than the past. We don’t hide from history. We make history. That, my friends, is the essence of hope in America, hope built on courage, and faith in the values and principles that have made us great.”

McCAIN!!!!!!!! It’s men like these that make this youth have hope and fight for real change.

Let’s not forget that it was that same Chicago media (Chicago Tribune) that derailed B. Hussein’s senate opponent Jim Ryan just before the election. Had the Trib kept it’s nose out of Ryan’s divorce records none of us would even know who Obama is. Let’s hope the Sun-Times can make up for past smears.

Jack Ryan, my bad.

I’ve got to say it:

“What did he know and when did he know it?” :)

irishspy on March 5, 2008 at 2:04 PM

Jack Ryan was married to Jeri Ryan…six of nine (or seven?). His sin was he tried to get her into a threesome at a sex club. Sounds like he had good judgement to me. The Sun Times is down to about 16 pages…going broke. Maybe this’ll sell some papers.

Irony is that if it was “Jack” and “Jerry” working an all male threesome and the Trib exposed it, the paper would have been branded an arm of the homophobic bigots, and there still would have never been a Senator Obama.

BigAnge on March 5, 2008 at 2:16 PM

While they are both in Chicago, I wouldn’t say the Sun-Times and the Trib are the same, unless you consider Clarence Thomas and Ruth Bader-Ginsburg the same. They are both judges but one is liberal and one isn’t.

Mike V on March 5, 2008 at 2:23 PM

The Chicago papers are racist! Next thing you know, they’ll dare to utter his middle name….

DaveHusseinS on March 5, 2008 at 2:35 PM

For shame that it took a skit form the SNL to shake the ‘big’ media into some semblance of reality, while the local media does a better job.

No, more like Stephen Breyer and Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

I still can’t believe the Tribune thought family custody battles were information for voter consumption.

Why not just put family court battles on TV now? They might as well. Thanks Chicago Tribune.

Look we got this crap from him on NAFTA.
1. no one in my campaign contacted the canadians.
2. Uhhh, ok there was contact but no conversation.
3. Wellllll, there was conversation about Nafta but no wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
4. Well, I NEVA! The canadians are lying in that wink, wink, nudge, nudge memo!

Rezco:
1. No, he didn’t help me buy the house.
2. Uhhh yeah, I forgot, he did tour the house with me.
3. Repeat above LOL.

His sin was he tried to pimp his wife to strangers in some club while on vacation in Europe, and she was clearly not OK with it. Sorry, the guy’s a creep.

That said, both parties wanted the divorce proceedings sealed — since the Ryans have kids. I agree they should have been sealed, and Obama benefited from some crass politicking by the papers.

DrSteve on March 5, 2008 at 3:33 PM

the real estate agent who found the place for obama was previously put on a state patronage job-list by rezko.

so obama’s excuse doesn’t fly.

he did not get rezko to buy the adjacent land at the last minute; resko was intimately involved in the whole deal from day one.

i have links at my blog.

reliapundit on March 5, 2008 at 6:33 PM

ED, there’s also this BIGGIE:

according to the cst or ctrib (links at my blog)

obama’s old law firm has yet to release all cases obama worked on which had to do with rezko.

they’re stonewalling, too.

since 2006.

most of the cst’s a ctrib’s good stuff is compiled here in a post of mine:

The Sun Times was once run by Hollinger International, a company once run by Conrad Black who famously married the zionist jew Barbara Amiel. When you combine that with all the false accusations that Barrack is a muslim, well it is clear that this is all the fault of the Jews.
