Exit polls are just starting to trickle in. Nothing yet by way of hard data but — surprise — voters in both Texas and Ohio find Obama to be more electable, per Fox News. We’ve had the first reports of dirty tricks too, courtesy of pro-Hillary TalkLeft. And Huck is complaining about the lack of energy on behalf of McCain among the GOP base, even as Maverick prepares to put him to sleep tonight and turn his attention fully to the, ahem, purple states.

Ed and I are going to try to co-liveblog it via the Cover It Live widget below. (Thanks to Patrick Ishmael for the tip.) It’s our first time using it so bear with us. Things should heat up starting at 7 p.m. ET. While you wait, enjoy the results of this poll suggesting whom voters really trust at 3 a.m. Exit quotation one: “I didn’t get my hands dirty making all those good things happen in the ’90s.” Exit quotation two: America is a country that’s “just downright mean.”

We all know McCain is a less than perfect candidate, I was for Mitt, life goes on. Given what the defeatocrats are offering and have come to represent the choice is an easy one. McCain will do the least amount of damage over the next 4 years. I can only hope his VP choice brings conservatives back into the camp.

Tell me about it, I voted for Hillary earlier today. It was one of the most traumatic events of my life.

Yeah. I’m not sure Obama isn’t the easier candidate to beat when all is said and done, but a prolonged fight that forces him to spend more of his money and build up higher negatives would certainly help.

No, reality is what we need and MKS is correct!

Branch Rickey on March 4, 2008 at 10:03 PM

Thanks. I know. It’s not about despair. It’s about pulling a Shakespeare, survive with what little dignity you can. In this era of globalization, though, with possible world armies (UN-stocked with Chinese troops and money), is a revolution even possible.

Our forefathers called this idea of “liberty” an experiment. Told us over and over it could only survive with a vigilant public. The downfall started with the IRS as designed by House and Wilson. FDR then just about sealed the deal. Johnson finished it. Our country, our freedoms, have slowly been strangled since then.

It’s over. Maybe next time around, our descendants can figure it out, make it permanent. But for now, the age of the independent individual is over. Time for the collectivist village to reassume control.

Hail to the Kings. LIberty is dead.

Deal with it.

You’ll also be taking care of the difference in the cost of driving because of your boy’s environmental policies. AND you can pay to fix my car/hospital bills when I get hit by one of those illegal immigrants that get drunk and drive on the wrong side of the freeway because they don’t know the laws of this country.

And yes, this actually happens.

Branch Rickey on March 4, 2008 at 10:13 PM

There won’t be anyone left to fight. The party that loses the presidency isn’t going to pick up seats in congress. Thus a Hillbama victory means greater democratic control of congress and probably a supermajority in the senate which would even remove the filibuster option. Then Hillbama will have free reign to implement their socialist polcies.

SouthernGent on March 4, 2008 at 10:22 PM

Kind of an interesting thing I see n local results.

Clinton beat Obama by 3,400 getting 60% of votes.

Of those total Dem voters, 2,500 of them did not vote for a Representative in the Dem Congressional race, while only 66% of them voted for other Dem races, Judges and the likes including the State Dem Representative from this district.

On the Rep side, there were only a 700 vote drop-off for Congressional and a 300 drop-off for State Rep Representative.

I wonder if there was a large cross-over, they voted for Clinton, but would not vote for the other races.

He opposed the Bush tax cuts and supports a 50 cent(?) gas tax to fight global warming. Vote for? He opposed tax cuts and supports a tax increase.

amerpundit on March 4, 2008 at 10:20 PM

Would Hillary or Obama be better than Mccain on taxes? Mccain did oppose the Bush tax cuts and did so for the wrong reasons but he did fight to extend them later on. And Mccain now vows to fight for the Bush tax cuts in addition to a corporate tax cut. With the dems in control of congress some taxes will go up no matter what, but some of the Bush tax cuts can be preserved by McCain along with a corporate tax cut, which has some bipartisan support in Congress. But Hillary and Obama have prosposed huge tax hikes in addition to massive new spending which will require even more tax hikes to fund.

They don’t need to wave a magic wand. They need to enforce the laws on the books. Those laws call for deportation of anyone who breaks the law by illegal crossing the border. This is a national security issue. I don’t know where you live, but it is a problem in most of America.

Obama will win in Mississippi guaranteed, unless he insults malcolm x in the coming week. Dem voters are racially obsessed.

Pax americana on March 4, 2008 at 10:32 PM

Crap…there are crickets all over my keyboard!

Ohio isnt even close

47% reporting

Clinton 569,220 56%
Obama 419,999 42%

William Amos on March 4, 2008 at 10:33 PM

Yeah? Whacha’ doin’ about it?

I just remember I don’t know everything and try to do the next right thing. It’s working out pretty well.

mikeyboss on March 4, 2008 at 10:29 PM

Not according to the news.

Sounds like you’re the one in despair: “Do the next right thing.” And who provides you with that next right thing? The guy that’s selling you - and US - out!

Yeah, you may not know everything - neither do I. But doesn’t sound like you know much. ‘Cause you settle…for the next right thing.

Liberty is dead. It was a grand experiment - and it was the right thing to do 240 years ago, not the next right thing.

As much as you wanna believe that compromise is just pure evil then please explain how…

1. Dem House
2. Dem Senate
3. Dem President
4. 2 Dem SCOTUS noms
5. No VETO

is better then

1. Dem House
2. Dem Senate
3. Rep President
4. 2 Rep SCOTUS noms
5. VETO power

This doesn’t include ‘cut & run’.

How is compromising not helping the country? All this clap trap is over Shamnesty….well great. Let’s just throw away all our weapons because of Shamnesty. Sorry. Sitting on your hands and not getting 100% of what you want is going to screw the entire country.

Take back the country in 2012. Take back what exactly? It will take a couple of decades to correct the damage Obama or Hillary do. It would be a hell of a lot less work to take back the country in 2012 if McCain were sitting in the chair.

Limerick on March 4, 2008 at 10:34 PM

Good lord…Bob Beckle just admitted the democrats create votes from Cuyahoga County in Ohio! Someone post that clip! He wasn’t kidding!

SouthernGent on March 4, 2008 at 10:34 PM

but since more people in this country think the NEA actually cares about kids

Teacher’s unions are killing America’s schools. If we allow them to continue to rule public schools, America will fall from glory. Better start learning Mandarin.

malan89 on March 4, 2008 at 10:34 PM

Wow, it’s all tied up in TX in terms of percentage points. About a 7,000 vote difference.

Mark V. on March 4, 2008 at 10:34 PM

What would the deficit be if we weren’t paying to support illegal immigrants who don’t pay any taxes? …crickets….

malan89

A lot of illegals pay taxes, and a lot turn in tax forms and get a refund, but some dont turn n tax forms after having taxes taken out, so the point is, a lot pay taxes using fake SSN and get nothing in return.

WoosterOh on March 4, 2008 at 10:34 PM

Drudgy has it at 49% straight up in TX. I am SO excited that I fully expect to down another roll of Pringles!

That’s not very surprising. She was up 7 points going in according to RCP.

darii on March 4, 2008 at 10:35 PM

They don’t need to wave a magic wand. They need to enforce the laws on the books. Those laws call for deportation of anyone who breaks the law by illegal crossing the border. This is a national security issue. I don’t know where you live, but it is a problem in most of America.

I live in Connecticut, work in Manhattan. So yeah, I know. But you cannot have any mass deportation UNTIL the border is secure. And McCain has already promised to do just that. And remember…Ronald Reagan granted blanket amnesty back in the day. Keep the dream alive, but 12-20 million illegals aren’t going to be mass deporoted by any POTUS. It’s just not going to happen.

Corruption in Cuyahouga county is ohio’s worst kept secret. Only Philly and Chicago do it better.

Dumb idea, better to learn Beijing Guanhua.

So how does it get chalked for Hillary if she takes 3 of 4, including one of the big states, which has roughly the same demographics as the next big primary (Pennsylvania)?

Spot on Limerick - good to see some rational thinking.

The children won’t stop bleating though.

Pax americana on March 4, 2008 at 10:37 PM

Limerick, the problem is, if McCain gives us Amnesty, none of what you said will matter. We’re looking at permanent minority status in Congress and the White House. Amnesty needs to be stopped. If that means stopping the MAIN RINO proponent, then maybe that’s what we have to do.
