Video: Geraldo says he won’t shake Lou Dobbs’s hand

posted at 4:05 pm on March 3, 2008 by Allahpundit

We’ve reached the point of diminishing returns with this tool, have we not? These segments are paint-by-numbers by now: Nativists, talk radio, “people who look like me,” climate of fear, those poor folk who haven’t done anything wrong except violate U.S. immigration law repeatedly, etc etc. I’m giving you this just because it’s always noteworthy when Spitty expresses his disgust towards a border enforcer in physical terms. Dobbs gets off easy, with nothing but the foregone handshake. Others … aren’t so lucky. Savor the irony at the very end as Hasselbeck quotes him worrying about people wanting to assault him.

I excised the part where he reiterates, for the thousandth time, his theory that Mitt Romney isn’t the Republican nominee because his immigration position alienated Cubans in Florida, notwithstanding the fact that McCain had beaten Romney in New Hampshire and South Carolina already by that point.

To cleanse the palate, here’s another fan of Michelle’s being politely informed that Gloria Steinem’s comments about McCain were “evil.”

Geraldo only spits on conservatives–no touchie.

Stream broken…. ;(

Won’t shake hands, eh? Can we spit on him?

Spitty

Heh.

Rivera is nothing but a sleazy, racist fool. Why FNC, or any other broadcaster, continues to give this nitwit air time is a mystery to me.

AZCoyote on March 3, 2008 at 4:11 PM

What part of “I support the rule of law” makes me a bigot?

indythinker on March 3, 2008 at 4:11 PM

Rivera assumes, as only an arrogant self serving piece of sewage sludge can, that Lou Dobbs would care. I suspect there isn’t enough Purell in the world for Mr. Dobbs were he to fall victim to a Rivera hand shake.

You know, with that hair cut, Woopie kinda looks like this guy from the Simpsons

Kini on March 3, 2008 at 4:16 PM

Geraldo has no clothes. He’s a genuine fifth column for the Mexican government. Anyone check his bank records lately. FOX would do well to fire this idiot and send him over to the Olby-channel (Marxists, all). They belong together.

Gartrip on March 3, 2008 at 4:16 PM

Rivera keeps saying the same nonsense about “people who look like me”. Actually Geraldo looks like any other aging white guy. Sorry, Geraldo but you are not exactly Ricky Martin in the looks department.

I think Joy Bitchar and Mustache need to take a cruise together in a rowboat with a slow leak out in the middle of the Mediterranean.

Geraldo says he won’t shake Lou Dobbs’s hand

I bet Lou Dobbs is relieved. I wouldn’t want to shake Geraldo’s hand.

Kini on March 3, 2008 at 4:20 PM

@ Larraby:

And that’s the funniest part! If one of us said “all Mexican immigrants look alike”, we’d be tarred and feathered and hung in the town square BY GERALDO himself. And isn’t he Puerto Rican, anyway? Is he saying that all Puerto Ricans and Mexicans look alike? What about Spaniards and Portuguese? Do we throw them in the mix too? He needs to listen to himself. He’s such a bigot.

Gartrip on March 3, 2008 at 4:20 PM

Rivera is going to be on Lou Dobbs on Wednesday. He just announced it on his radio show, so I’m guessing it will be on the radio.

I can not stand geraldo. The instant he comes on the tv I mute. He has a serious problem, and I mean it. His views on giving illegals the same rights we have make me sick.

As a veteran, I am so glad Hasselbeck put it on the line, like that. I’m also not surprised that Joy, a known hypocrite, leapt just as quickly to defend that irrelevant feminist’s evil, self-serving politispeak. Geraldo? I wouldn’t expect anything better from him, and I’ll bet that if he had been sitting in front of Lou, he would’ve been a lot more careful with his choice of words, just as he would’ve been, had he seen Michelle Malkin (or her husband) walk into the room, when he made his dispicable and uncalled for remark about spitting on her.

TooTall on March 3, 2008 at 4:45 PM

Geraldo is totally confused and not very bright. These people are invading the United States illegally, which means, Geraldo, that they are breaking the law. And, it is utter stupidity to reward these criminals with any kind of incentive other than one that incents them to go back to where they came from.

We need citizens that can demonstrate they can obey our laws, not demonstrate their committment to break them. Illegals forfeit their right to US citizenship and should be deported whenever they are caught.

Whats worse is that in Latin America, corruption is normal. These illegals are hell bent on making corruption normal here too.

saiga on March 3, 2008 at 4:46 PM

Lou Dobbs is big an idiot as Geraldo Rivera,

Dobbs – every week his hair is a new color
Dobbs – every story he reports is smothered in hyperbole
Dobbs – is a complete populist
Dobbs – is today’s Howard Beale

Rivera – he’s just an ego looking for attention, best days are long behind him.

jake-the-goose on March 3, 2008 at 4:47 PM

Someone please remind Geraldo that he’s at least half white, given that his mom is Jewish, and depending on the ancestry of his PR father may be all white. His kids are even more so since his wife, or wives, is white. He’s hung up on the Spanish surname. Geraldo has a lot more in common with Lou Dobbs than he does an Aztez illegal alien from Mexico. genetically and culturally. I still remember when a black female commentator called Spain “a nation of color”. Ignorance abounds.

DerKrieger on March 3, 2008 at 4:49 PM

I still say you guys interview Hasslebeck. I’d like to see her speak her mind in a non-hostile environment where she’s always on the defence.

At least he stopped that non sequitur about his sons’ having to display their genitals. That creeped me out.

Geraldo is just looking out for ‘the new American pioneers’, and his ‘brother’ Juan Hernandez.

Entelechy on March 3, 2008 at 5:07 PM

Geraldo is just practicing his lawyering. He is trying to deflect attention away from our true objection to immigration:
IMMIGRATION LAW IS NOT BEING ENFORCED!
We are fine with people immigrating to the USA. What we object to is various government entities not doing their duties and vigorously enforcing the laws about entering the country. We also object to other government entities outright flaunting their disobeying of immigration law. Think sanctuary cities.

p.s. Frightening that even the half-wits who make up the audience cheered for when E-beth “proving-even-a-stop-clock-is-right-twice-a-day” Lassoathought made a reasoned and correct argument….

Branch Rickey on March 3, 2008 at 5:17 PM

AP, your well-justified contempt for Rivera is always fun to read.

baldilocks on March 3, 2008 at 5:21 PM

Yea, Geraldo’s right…Out of 13million people, the 10,000 Cubans are responsible for Romney’s defeat in Florida. You have to wonder who Geraldo’s talking to. Does he think that the 80% of Americans who want illegal aliens out of this country are listening to him?

The half-wits who appear on, and watch, the view and his program are his entire audience. All we need is a program with him, Juan Hernandez and George Lopez on at the same time. That would be a good opportunity for ICE to deport all three together.

orlandocajun on March 3, 2008 at 5:24 PM

is it wrong that I like Whoopi more every time I see one of these View clips? ‘Cause if it is… I don’t wanna be right.

No, seriously though, she seems really fair-minded and not given to spew the vitriol of most liberal talking heads.

joewm315 on March 3, 2008 at 5:26 PM

Legal immigrants? Glad to have them, I’ve gone to school with them, worked with them and been friends with some of them. Great, they want to become citizens and are willing (just like *all* of those that came before) to do what is necessary to assimilate into our society and abide by our laws, I’m happy as a lark, the more the merrier!

But, Rivera is a bigot of the worst sort, he wants to give citizenship and preferential treatment to illegals crossing the southern border (note; he doesn’t support or mention illegals from other countries than Mexico or Cuba). Not only does he want to give them preferential treatment, but he wants to make sure that we assimilate to their cultural needs (providing services in Spanish for example).

Its just so surprising how hypocritical and bigoted the Left, oops, I mean Geraldo is. The gall, to call us nativists when its they who are asking for special treatment for those “poor, vulnerable” criminals, placing them ahead of law abiding legal immigrants….

…sigh… our country is soooo broken and in so much trouble…I need to drink myself into oblivion.

Geministorm on March 3, 2008 at 5:31 PM

Oh yea, I forgot to mention…In Florida you have to be registered Republican to vote in the Republican primary. We all know that Cubans are registered Republcans. Right.

orlandocajun on March 3, 2008 at 5:32 PM

Geraldo is a wonderful guy. I love the way his new books says all white people are afraid of hispanics. Marvelous!

And, for apparently the second time, he blew off speaking to Brad and Britt, radio hosts out of the Greensboro, NC area.

William Teach on March 3, 2008 at 5:49 PM

Geraldo could learn from our military, who were willing to shake his hand after he foolishly gave away their position in one of the early Iraq reports.

They. shook. Geraldo’s. hand.

course, they spat in their palms first…

I love Knut the polar bear. Probably to the point of obsession and I blame it all on Allah. I have to believe in my heart that Knut would not bite your hand off. orlandocajun on March 3, 2008 at 5:32 PM

I’m curioius – I read several reports of Independents voting (for McCain) in the Rino Primaries. HA may have even linked to one local newspaper there. Was that not the case except for isolated incidents?…at least to your knowledge?

Buttercup on March 3, 2008 at 6:06 PM

Could Joy even EXPLAIN what the swiftboating incident was about? Come on Hasselback! She should have told Joy that there NO COMPARISON between the two situations? Men who served with Kerry came out and said that he was a liar? A wee bit different, no?

wryteacher on March 3, 2008 at 6:22 PM

Buttercup,

In Florida you can only vote in the primaries the way you’re registered. When I went to vote, I recieved a ballot with only the Republican candidates names. I don’t know how it works for independents.

orlandocajun on March 3, 2008 at 6:33 PM

FNC needs to cut this clown loose quickly. He is a pathetic excuse for a journalist. Factually challenged, a horrible host, and a demagogue of the worst kind.

FOX gave up the lovely Miss Malkin for Geraldo and his spit.

Their loss….BIG TIME.

I liked Hasselback calling Steinem’s garbage what it is but I was a bit dissapointed that she rolled over so easily for the comparison to swift boating against Kerry.

Again the Swift Boat Vets are liars.

Distraction of politics is right, except the left is using it as the distraction.

Jaynie59 on March 3, 2008 at 9:08 PM

To coin a phrase:

Geraldo is one of the useless idiots.

I don’t know why FOX puts up with him. Or why anyone puts up with him.

He shines best in the use of hyperbole – just like Lou Dobbs – but he is almost unequivocally wrong on every issue down the line.

Shall we not forget how, embedded with a unit in Iraq, he attempted (succeeded?) in giving away their positions, and got tossed out?

But, his behavior over the illegal immigration issue has been solidly racist, through and through. Geraldo needs to look in the mirror every time he called someone a racist or nativist (or what have you), for maintaining an opinion on the subject different that his.

To the above question of independents in Florida. I am a registered independent in the great state of Florida, and you can only vote in primaries according to party affiliation. Independents cannot vote in either party..As for Jerry Rivers, everyone above made all my points, as in “people that look like me”(half Jewish/half Puerto Rican?), mindlessly promoting open borders, etc…Retire Geraldo, please………
