Hillary endorses McCain over Obama?
posted at 6:40 pm on March 3, 2008 by Ed Morrissey
OK, folks — now it’s really on. The Hillary Clinton team apparently believes that the experience issue will prove a winner for her, so typically, she’s overplaying it. On her way out of Toledo to Texas, she dropped this nugget on the press:
But before leaving, to insert herself into the day’s news coverage, she held a quick media availability at the Hilton and provided this unusually concise capsule comment for reporters, including The Times’ Louise Roug:
“I think that I have a lifetime of experience that I will bring to the White House. Sen. John McCain has a lifetime of experience that he’d bring to the White House. And Sen. Obama has a speech he gave in 2002.”
Did I read this correctly? Did Hillary just endorse John McCain for the presidency over Barack Obama? How else would anyone understand this comment?
I guess we have our answer about whether Hillary will withdraw after tomorrow if she can’t win Ohio and Texas. It sounds like she’ll stay in through the convention, and possibly do a Coulter and campaign for the opposition if she doesn’t get her way.
Note to the new boss: Can I get the Bill Clinton beat when they start campaigning for McCain?

You think you’re kidding.
Vizzini on March 3, 2008 at 6:49 PM
Yah, but will she donate?
JayHaw Phrenzie on March 3, 2008 at 6:51 PM
not really endorsing Big Mac, IMHO.
more like “Look, the Rep have chosen a guy with experience in a time of war. We cannot choose a guy with no experience because the Rep are gonna have easy time playing the ‘no experience’ card and, btw, we need a guy/girl with experience in the WH (remember the telephone?). So choose me, please”
aso on March 3, 2008 at 6:52 PM
I guessed it a few weeks ago in one of these comments.
But they’re not in the same party, so they can’t really dance.
desertdweller on March 3, 2008 at 6:53 PM
Touting the experience angle and the McCain hands across the isle chumminess. BHO inexperience.
She should pull a Reagan and quoth:
Kini on March 3, 2008 at 6:53 PM
Uh, Hilldog? Could you stop saying positive things about McCain please? I’m trying to warm up to the idea of him being the nominee, but you Are. Not. Helping.
Hollowpoint on March 3, 2008 at 6:55 PM
I didn’t see that ticket coming, but now that it is here I can see the sticker on bumpers all over town.
Strange times indeed!
USBB on March 3, 2008 at 6:56 PM
Um, I think that is a definite sign of End times!
ihasurnominashun on March 3, 2008 at 6:58 PM
Wow! This will be all over the MSM within hours. Bet O’Reilly leads with it tonight.
Not an accident at all. That was absolutely deliberate.
Big article in the NY Post today saying that Jews will bolt to McCain if Hillary loses tomorrow. Quotes a NY Jewish Dem State Assemblyman as saying if Obama’s the nominee the Dems can kiss the Jewish vote Goodbye.
Ramifications for New York for sure. But think about Florida. Jews leave the Dems over Hillary loss, means Florida is now, and will be for a long, long time, solidly in the Republican column.

SECOND LOOK AT MCCAIN/RODHAM CLINTON ’08
Her move is actually brilliant.
Entelechy on March 3, 2008 at 7:02 PM
Agreed.
The question is why she didn’t start doing this stuff like a month ago?
terryannonline on March 3, 2008 at 7:07 PM
Hedgehogreport.com is comparing the polls and its looking like there could be a last minute Obama crumbling. Whites are fleeing Obama like kids out of Neverland Ranch.
Chuck Schick on March 3, 2008 at 7:08 PM
Hillary makes her move to the Veepstakes… for the Republicans.
Now I’ve seen it all.
indythinker on March 3, 2008 at 7:08 PM
She’s testing the remark, if it’s successful look for her to add The Huck in Texas.
Dusty on March 3, 2008 at 7:09 PM
Sorry- I meant white Texas males in the PPP poll.
Chuck Schick on March 3, 2008 at 7:09 PM
Meh, this is damage control after the Gloria Steinem comment and part of the “kitchen sink”/desperate approach she’s now taken in her campaign. It’s not genuine… but then, when is she ever?
RightWinged on March 3, 2008 at 7:10 PM
“Did I read this correctly? Did Hillary just endorse John McCain for the presidency over Barack Obama? How else would anyone understand this comment?”
She’s saying Obama shouldn’t even be running for the nomination, silly. He’s not a serious candidate. John McCain is a serious candidate, and it will take an equally serious candidate to beat him.
JM Hanes on March 3, 2008 at 7:11 PM
Well naturally, that was a good solid answer and wise. I never thought I would see the day that I would take her over Obama. At first I wanted to see her go down but good, not anymore. She is right, McCain isn’t our first choice but she is correct in saying I’ll take him over “I know nothing about the econony, foreign affairs, etc.,” Obama.

I like stories of revenge served up cold.

Given how badly her campaign has been run up to this point, I have to imagine that there are some current and former Clinton campaign staffers with footwear lodged in a rearward facing orifice.
Maybe they’re finally starting to get it together… though I’m not sure if saying anything positive about a Republican rival is going to win a lot of points with Dem voters, even if to criticize Obama.
Hollowpoint on March 3, 2008 at 7:14 PM
Right. She loses. She couldn’t criticize Obama to assure winning the nomination, for fear of alienating African-Americans and the far left in the general election. Must suck to not have an actual position, but always be trying to triangulate. And some of those dem. voters actually believe all that identity politics the Clintons peddled. Who’d a thunk it.

Over a 100 years ago…..
volsense on March 3, 2008 at 7:23 PM
dude, we didn’t invent decay, we just copy it.
JiangxiDad on March 3, 2008 at 7:26 PM
Well, if John did pick Hill for VP they’d pick up an endorsement from Ann and maybe Limbaugh, I wonder if Rove would manage, since, what else could happen?
Speakup on March 3, 2008 at 7:34 PM
Ariel Durant, born Chaya Kaufman, (May 10, 1898 - October 25, 1981) was the co-author of The Story of Civilization, a great read.
She would have had to say that at the age of 10, or less…
Btw, two of my most favorite American thinkers/writers/philosophers, are Will and Ariel Durant.

BURN!
AbaddonsReign on March 3, 2008 at 7:37 PM
Don’t forget, ya’ll: McCain and Clinton are friends, even drinking buddies. And even when we disagree with our friends, we might still say nice things about them in public.
I wouldn’t over-read her comments. That’s her bud.
paul006 on March 3, 2008 at 7:40 PM
Meh, I think she’s just saying, look guys, we’re going up against a guy with a lot of experience, how about choosing the candidate from our side that actually has some?
Seixon on March 3, 2008 at 7:41 PM
.
Could be an offer of the VP spot for Senator McCain?
News2Use on March 3, 2008 at 7:48 PM
More sure signs of the gathering perfect storm.
TheBigOldDog on March 3, 2008 at 7:48 PM
Team Clinton convinced themselves before the first vote was cast that the nomination was hers. The media did a great job of reinforcing that notion. They became arrogant and overconfident and never saw Obama coming. Even when it became clear to the rest of the world he was a real threat, they still refused to believe a “nobody” could actually beat her. Now they believe it. Is it too late? We’ll have a good idea tomorrow night.
TheBigOldDog on March 3, 2008 at 7:56 PM
If you are looking for the explanation for something, first look to the simplest explanation.
She has lost her mind.
She probably rode her broom too high up and got brain damage from lack of oxygen.
MB4 on March 3, 2008 at 8:02 PM
He will get a chunk of her votes. Believe it or not there are a few dems with common sense.
THE CHOSEN ONE on March 3, 2008 at 8:39 PM
Yep, pretty much. Still, it was clear well before Super Tuesday that Obama was a serious threat, yet her campaign didn’t adjust.
Hollowpoint on March 3, 2008 at 8:40 PM
The guns and ammo are pretty well stocked. But there’s still a lot of work to do on the bunker.
BowHuntingTexas on March 3, 2008 at 8:54 PM
Her ringing phone ad was the best endorsement of McCain possible
Mattpat11 on March 3, 2008 at 8:57 PM
Hillary, you magnificent bastard you! Love it!!!
Sugar Land on March 3, 2008 at 9:15 PM
not really endorsing Big Mac, IMHO.
agreed
If the alternative is Obama/Huckabee ’08, I’ll take it. I’m feeling nauseus (for real) and I thought it was just the start of a stomach bug. Maybe not.
funky chicken on March 3, 2008 at 9:18 PM
I couldn’t agree less.
Her base is rabid leftists, they see McCain as Bush 2.0 – add this to her campaigns announcement of possibly suing the State of Texas over their primary rules and her desire to take profits for the oil industry…and what do you have?
Probably another in a string of losses.
Dorvillian on March 3, 2008 at 9:19 PM
This shouldn’t be a surprise. If and when she’s defeated, that will become the first day of the 2012 race in her mind. She’ll kinda sorta endorse Barak, but not really. Just like Billary did to John Kerry.
THE CHOSEN ONE on March 3, 2008 at 9:30 PM
Talk about some change. Don’t think Obama could top that.
bojack on March 3, 2008 at 10:25 PM
Anyone else notice that the clenis isn’t out and about campaigning? He damn near did her in with his bs.
cjs1943 on March 3, 2008 at 10:40 PM
Now that would definitely make me vote for Obama.
