I thought it was telling that Belechick decided to bolt early from the SB when ALL SEASON he had been bragging about how he needed to score every point that he could in every blowout.

Couldn’t be bothered to hang around but he had no problem running the score up to the last second.

When I got up this morning, seven copies of this press release were the first things in my email queue, all from state mailing lists. So yeah.

In Indiana, by the way, somebody about ten years ago slipped a helmet law clause into a bill that passed. As soon as the state legislature realized they’d passed a helmet law, they repealed it. Here in Pennsylvania, if you have a little snow on your car and drive, they can pull you over and give you a ticket. Seriously.

Thanks to their upset win in Super Bowl XLII, the Giants get to open the 2008 season first, with the NBC Thursday night game. Looking at the schedule, if they aren’t playing the Cowboys, odds are NBC will show Giants-Steelers as their opener.

Giants play the Steelers in Pittsburgh this year, so I doubt they’ll show something away in Giants Stadium.

MAYBE both peerless prognosticators need to check out a schedule of teams the Giants are playing…it’s not that difficult…just go to http://www.NFL.com

Well, they’re not mine. Sorry. I’m from Pittsburgh originally, but I haven’t lived there for many years. I wish Murtha belonged to me, I’d trade him in on a sleek new Republican like Irey.

Another Seattle/Pittsburgh Superbowl would be fine with me.

Maybe he made it, maybe not. I don’t know. But then, neither does anyone else, except maybe Rothlisberger.

It’s likely the Seahawks will win the West again this year, so maybe they’ll get another shot to prove they’re as good as they think they are. Another Seattle/Pittsburgh Superbowl would be fine with me.

Yeah that Steelers game will not make any highlight films in Seattle any time soon. It was the only game all year I didn’t see or attend. I didn’t even bother watching the replay on the DVR. Pretty bad.

Here’s my case about the Rothlisberger TD. It was inconclusive at best, but it didn’t look like the ball crossed the line during his thrust forward. Once he was on the ground he pushed it forward over the line. Meanwhile the line judge, from the same side of the field, came running in 4 or 5 strides with his arm raised signalling 4th down, and then changed the call to TD. He knew BR didn’t break the plane, but called the TD on the late shove of the ball while BR was on the ground.

Unfortunately for Seahawk fans the rule of the replay booth reviewing plays in the last two minutes of each half didn’t exist at the time. Hmmmm, I wonder why we have the rule now?

Tell me, as you watch, if you can find the phantom holding call on Sean Locklear. I have yet to see it. Of all the crap calls, that was the one that was the most damaging.

I’ll give Cowher credit on one call. Near the end of the half, Seattle is in their hurry-up offense. The Hawks were at mid-field and Hasselbeck brought them to the line and then stood there for 10 or 15 seconds looking over the defense. He then saw what he wanted and called the audible. Before the ball could be snapped, Cowher quickly called time out because he knew Hasselbeck had something. Who knows if that stopped the Hawks from a big play, but it was enough of a threat that Cowher wasn’t going to find out. A good call on his part and a sign of respect for Hasselbeck and the offense.

Then they lost Hutchinson

Good point. But the Seahawks played the Steelers last season. They could have made their statement on the field. Instead they lost 0 – 21.

Also, replay of the Rothlisberger touchdown was and is inconclusive. You want to think he didn’t make it. That’s an opinion particular to Seahawks fans (and Steelers detractors).

Not sure what the team’s record in the season’s following the Super Bowl is supposed to prove. In 2006 they were hit with injuries in key positions all year, yet they still made it to the play offs. This past year they again made it to the playoffs without a “real” running back all year.

In 2005, the Hawks were arguably the best team in the NFL. Then they lost Hutchinson and have suffered through two years of diminish carries and performance from Shaun Alexander and their O-line. But, they are still one of the best teams in the league. Just shows the fine line between being very good and being elite. And to see a team reach that elite level and have the game “stolen” away from them by incompetence doesn’t sit well at all, even two years later.

But don’t listen to me. Ask football fans outside of western Penn. if they thought the Seahawks got “jobbed,” and 8 or 9 out of 10 will say yes.

To the Steeler fans, enjoy the trophy. See if you can find something to help get that tarnish off it.
