And if they’re making such lame arguments for Hillary as C-in-C, can you imagine the silliness they will offer on behalf of Barack Obama?

"What do you think of General Wesley Clark and would you support him as a presidential candidate," was the question put to him by moderator Dick Henning, assuming that all military men stood in support of each other. General Shelton took a drink of water and Henning said, "I noticed you took a drink on that one!"

"That question makes me wish it were vodka," said Shelton. "I've known Wes for a long time. I will tell you the reason he came out of Europe early had to do with integrity and character issues, things that are very near and dear to my heart. I'm not going to say whether I'm a Republican or a Democrat. I'll just say Wes won't get my vote."

Yawn....

This is Gloria Steinam's version of a "leaked" sex tape. It is about the only way this forgettable person from 3 decades ago is able to generate attention. Next week she'll be speaking out against puppies and icecream.

"The only thing I can't stand is discomfort."
                              Gloria Steinam

If Gloria Steinam wishes to touch the 3rd rail of political discourse by impuning a legitimate war hero...go for it Gloria. Keep talking drivel.

Now on to Wesley Clark: "For Clark is an honorable man,
So are they all, all honorable men.... "
                                 W.S.

Wesley Clark strikes me as an unprincipled opportunist. But I frankly don't know the man, so I defer to someone who does know him quite well.

Was Wesley Clark removed from his job Supreme Allied Commander, Europe for lack of integrity and character issues? "Retired General Hugh Shelton was asked the same question after giving a talk at a college in California. Shelton, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was Clark’s boss in 1999 when Clark was unceremoniously told that he was being removed from his position as Supreme Allied Commander, Europe. “I’ve known Wes for a long time,” Shelton said. “I will tell you the reason he came out of Europe early had to do with integrity and character issues, things that are very near and dear to my heart. . . ."

"He was my friend, faithful and just to me.
But Clark says he was ambitious,
And Clark is an honorable man."

Wesley Clark…the Horatio Gates of the 21st Century. Incompetent fool, blowhard, characterless, self promoting, pig headed. Besides that, he’s a good guy.

Oh really? Well I would argue that all the pilots and NFOs who flew A-6 Intruder “attack” jets would disagree. A-4 , A-6, AV-8B, are not fighter jets they are attack jets. Check your facts James before you spout such crap. Major Dad.

Read my post again...I allowed that the A-series jets are called 'attack jets.' The pilots, however, are not, were not, and never will be called attack pilots.

James,
You are clueless on both the overall set of responsibilities a Naval Aviator has (there is MUCH more than just flying) as well as what a “fighter pilot” is.

Yeah, no kidding there's 'much more than flying.' A pedantic list would include everything from RSU to PME to Snacko. These are called 'additional duties' and their level of involvement in them varies, even to the point of sometimes interfering with the primary duty of flying. However, it is not an exact match for having a primary duty of leading troops.

Most A-4/A-7/A-6 pilots or B/Ns would consider it an insult to be called a “fighter pilot.”

And I guarantee you'd get a fist in the face a lot quicker for calling them bomber pilots.

Seems to me the lunatic left is getting worried about John McCain. Daily smear stories (unsubstantiated of course) in the NYT and now wes clark opening his yap. He couldn’t hold Senator McCains dirty laundry - when we think national policy think about it. McCain chose death before dishonor, he will hold up the highest ideals of our country, the USA (not the UN like obama/hillary), to the end.

The Democrats have more problems going into the general election than they seem to know. I think a few are taking a look at the electoral map and are finally coming to a realization.

That silly story about whether McCain was a true "natural born" citizen shows how desperate some of them are becoming. There are few "handles" on McCain for the smear machine to grab onto so they're digging below the gutter.

Call me psychic or psycho, if McCain runs a smart campaign -- no major mistakes -- he will win in November.

But does McCain have any coattails?

Any pilot (or in Navy terms, ‘naval aviator’) of a small, one or two seat aircraft is known as a fighter pilot. A bomber pilot flies an actual bomber aircraft…in our inventory, these do not exist outside of the USAF. There is no such thing as an ‘attack pilot,’...-James

Oh really? Well I would argue that all the pilots and NFOs who flew A-6 Intruder "attack" jets would disagree. A-4 , A-6, AV-8B, are not fighter jets they are attack jets. Check your facts James before you spout such crap. Major Dad.

Did yall hear Glenn Beck on this today? Among other things he called her a “crazy b*tch” about 3 times. I have never heard him that mad before.

Surely CNN will not look kindly upon that? I mean technically it’s true, but there is a way to say it.

Anyone else hear him?

Steinem said with bewilderment, “I mean, hello? This is supposed to be a qualification to be president? I don’t think so.”

She expresses herself like a petulant teenager. Maybe she should give herself a time out for the next 20 years or so.

News Flash.
Gloria Steinam is a phony leftist who uses the feminist hussel to advance her leftist agenda.

Clarence Thomas - Bad // Bill Clinton - Good
Kerry/Gore -Good // McCain- bad
Do you see a pattern here?

But having served as a fighter pilot — and I know my experience as a company commander in Vietnam — that doesn’t prepare you to be commander-in-chief in terms of dealing with the national strategic issues that are involved.

This is an awfully weak way of saying that pilots don’t count as leaders in the military. It reveals some serious spite I’d say. On that line, the current Commandant of the Marine Corps was an Air Wing man…but I suppose he knows nothing about real leadership, eh Wes?

blankminde on March 3, 2008 at 1:28 PM

Hmmmm. That could be a slap at both McCain (the public target and the one the media will feast upon) and at Obama's Clintonian military advisor Merrill "Tony" McPeak, who was a real proponent of the "fighter pilots are kings" philosophy while he was in charge of the AF.

The debate about this on military message boards is legendary, so Clark's not dropping any real bombshells here. Officers in other Services and other specialities in the AF take leadership roles much sooner in their careers than pilots do. Pilots counter that they seem to do OK with substituting crew and formation leadership early in their careers, to the point where they can step into a senior leadership role at the O-5 and above level without too much problem.

I'm bowing out of making any calls on this, but suffice to say it's nothing novel to consider pilot wings as 'Universal Management Badges' and likewise nothing novel to deride them as such...it just depends on what side of the debate you're on.
