Slate reporter to Hillary aides: Name one foreign policy crisis she’s been tested by

Brutal silence. There is one, of course, but she’s spent the past five years running from it; take away that vote and all you’re left with is “attended First Lady functions while president was off planning intervention in Bosnia” or whatever. The difference between this and the media’s sproadic goofs on Obama supporters over the thinness of his record is that this wasn’t put to some focus group or not-ready-for-primetime state pol. These are her top brass — the worst campaign team money can buy — facing a question on point about her bombshell new ad. And the best they can do is name some generals who have endorsed her. Pathetic.

Exit question: Why didn’t they mention her vote to designate the Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization? Given the static she’s gotten for it and the left’s squeamishness about even the tiniest bit of saber-rattling towards Iran, that took no small amount of nerve. Or is she running away from that now, too?

Oh come on, AP. Everyone knows she’s got extensive experience in the Middle East

Does Arafat playing in the garden while Bill showed Monica how to puff a cigar count as international?

Hening on March 1, 2008 at 3:14 PM

That’s one more than Obama.

Pax americana on March 1, 2008 at 3:16 PM

I would think the last place Cankles would mention as supporters would be the military… well maybe interns…she might get some athletic supporters.

Wade on March 1, 2008 at 3:21 PM

Experience? This the cult of personality election, and she’s got none.

TX Republicans for Hillary!

MT on March 1, 2008 at 3:25 PM

Can’t remember which, but a while back a fine pundit speculated that Hillary, not Bill, had pushed for NATO into Bosnia. If that were her call, now’s the time to ‘fess up.

But neither Obama nor Hillary have any compulsion to provide a damn thing but blather to garner popular votes. People don’t want to think; that hurts. Just tell them what to do so they can get on with getting drunk in front of the TV.

The other day’s news went on and on about 1/100 Americans, then 1/99, then more than 1 out of every 100 Americans being incarcerated. First off, if indeed it is 1/100, are they US Citizens, legal immigrants, or illegal aliens? Next off, if something is to be “done” about them, clean up Hollywood and they will follow. Tax or ban the sale of violent games if people have become that violent. Let those who gained wealth leading the masses into destruction pay for their keep.

She did sleep with bill clinton for 8 years. Experience! By Osmosis! Still better than obama.

It’s almost like the media’s not carrying her water anymore.

Christoph on March 1, 2008 at 3:31 PM

My first reaction was to think that the guy from Slate had written the question for McCain, got confused and forgot who he was talking to.

They’re realizing that The Church of the Warming Globe is turning out to be a farce, and there’s a new religion cult in town.

MT on March 1, 2008 at 3:37 PM

And just how many of those flag officers were promoted/appointed by the beast’s husband?

Queeter on March 1, 2008 at 3:42 PM

Well Allahpundit there you go again,

I’ve been slightly amused at the assertion that Sen. Clinton time as First Lady gives her the experience to be the next President. Looking back in history, the only First Lady that I can think of that can remotely make that claim is Eleanor Roosevelt.

And Hillary Clinton, you’re no Eleanor Roosevelt.

If sleeping with Bill Clinton during his eight years in office is the main qualifier, I think there are about at least a half-dozen other women more qualified for POTUS. Just saying.

Sugar Land on March 1, 2008 at 4:05 PM

If the Dems were looking for experience they would have at least given Biden and Richardson more than a passing glance.

Doesn’t that frontpage pic of Hil look like she has Conan O’Brien hair?

snaggletoothie on March 1, 2008 at 3:34 PM

Just like McCain got confused and forgot to keep his cover about being liberal.

urbancenturion on March 1, 2008 at 4:31 PM

Where’s the post about that, anyway? Try as I might, I couldn’t find it.

there appears to be a snobbish presumption in some of the reporting that Clinton has risen, almost Jed Clampett-like, above his station. Jody Powell, the former Carter White House spokesman, is among those who see a disdain for white southerners in some of the coverage. He’s right, judging by the language that slips out: “. . . so White Guy . . . Clinton’s game is Bubba golf . . . L’il Abner.”

I guess she means that when your the wife of an Arkansas governor, everyplace you go after that is foreign, especially when your husband is the crisis.

Speakup on March 1, 2008 at 4:38 PM

Name one foreign policy crisis she’s been tested by

Isn’t Lewinsky Polish?

Does that count?

MB4 on March 1, 2008 at 4:40 PM

She did sleep with bill clinton for 8 years.

lorien1973 on March 1, 2008 at 3:27 PM

I very much doubt that.

MB4 on March 1, 2008 at 4:42 PM

For a rare instance, I have to agree with Barack Hussein Obama when he points out Hillary Diane Rodham-Clinton’s flip-flopping when it comes to her dismal, tiny record as “First Lady” when she claims credit (whether legit or not) on things that went right during William Jefferson Blythe Clinton’s administration and then runs away from things she initially claimed involvement that end up going badly (ex. – socialized health care).

Carl on March 1, 2008 at 4:54 PM

Hil didn’t have a security clearance, so she couldn’t be privy to info regarding any foreign policy crisis. Simple as that.

petefrt on March 1, 2008 at 4:56 PM

There is no telling how many foreign women that Slick Willie has groped and assaulted that she has had to trash to get here. If she cannot hold her own with her husband why would any Middle Eastern leader who doesn’t give women equal status even acknowledge her existence?

volsense on March 1, 2008 at 4:59 PM

Do Bimbo eruptions count? Better put some ice on that Hillary!

sabbott on March 1, 2008 at 5:08 PM

I’m sure Ms. Hillary Klingon really has convinced herself that she, not Bill, was president during his administration. After all, if she bossed him around, doesn’t that make her the boss?

NNtrancer on March 1, 2008 at 5:13 PM

Perhaps the better question is: Name one foreign policy disaster she’ll cause in the future?

stonemeister on March 1, 2008 at 5:20 PM

Isn’t Lewinsky Polish?

Does that count?

MB4 on March 1, 2008 at 4:40 PM

Most likely not. Polish does not permit a “y” to follow a “k” or a “g”, except for words adopted from other languages. A name ending in “ski” would be Polish, but one ending in “sky” could be either Czech or Russian.

But then, Russian or Czech would be just as foreign as Polish, so this doesn’t change your second question.

Bigfoot on March 1, 2008 at 5:54 PM

Oh Please. Someone had good crisis-management skills during Pres. Clinton’s 8 wasted years. Guess who?
I think her advisors just can’t figure a way to frame it without dissing Bill. Apparently she’ll have 4 years to work on a div re-frame.

She did call Petraus a liar. Does that count?

SouthernGent on March 1, 2008 at 7:51 PM

I’m sorry folks, but “35 years of experience”??? DOING WHAT??????????!!!!! I WILL NOT ACCEPT YEARS AS A CORPORATE LAWYER, FIRST LADY IN ARKANSAS AND THE U.S. AS “EXPERIENCE” ON A RESUME FOR THE PRESIDENCY OF THE UNITED STATES!!!
She is a one-term Senator from socialist N.Y. THAT is the extent of her REAL “experience”. All the rest is wind.

jimbo2008 on March 1, 2008 at 8:03 PM

Oh how your conservatives memories are short. Don’t you recall how HDRC rescued the would-be supermarket taboloid candidate from the toilet and from international terrorist Jennifer Flowers in 1992? She stood by the man from Hope and co-architected the political language of let ye who is without sin cast the first stone. HDRC answered the red phone on 60 minutes by proping up 1992’s “change candidate” when he acknowledged “wrongdoing and causing pain in my marriage.” This eventually led to great moments in US foreign policy like tying the hands of Marines in Mogadishu: trading dollars and fuel for broken promises from N.Koea; and aerial bombardment from 50,000 feet in Serbia. And how could you forget stovepiping domestic intelligence gathering so as not to offend our overseas “friends” and bombing aspirin factories? C’mon, give her some props. She was co-decider on all those bigtime red phone moments.

Western_Civ on March 2, 2008 at 12:08 AM

does trying to figure out which set of flats will reduce the appearance of the sheer massiveness of her kankles in a women’s shoe store in Milan, Italy count as a foreign policy crisis? I’m guessing she hopes so because that’s about as close as she’d get.

MannyT-vA on March 2, 2008 at 7:05 AM

Vladimir Putin on the HRC comment that he has no soul: “At a minimum, a head of state should have a head.”
February 15, 2008

There’s your foriegn policy genious. How come no one has asked her to comment on that? I think the media still loves her and wants her to die a glorius death rather than skewering her like they do republicans.

Hillary’s house of cards is in full collapse.

wildweasel on March 2, 2008 at 8:14 AM

She should be. It was a stupid vote. I don’t know if she can though.

freevillage on March 2, 2008 at 4:30 PM

Well, back in November 1999, Hillary sat by the side of Suha Arafat, Yassir’s wife, while she made a speech in which she claimed, “Our [Palestinian] people have been submitted to the daily and intensive use of poisonous gas by the Israeli forces, which has led to an increase in cancer cases among women and children.” Hillary kept her mouth shut, then gave Mrs. Arafat a hug and kiss at the end of her speech. So that policy crisis was averted, calling a terrorist leader’s wife on her lies, by simply playing kissy face. Problem solved!

And that’s the approach Obama proposes so the Democrats are agreed on that.
