Wow!

jgapinoy on February 29, 2008 at 8:54 PM

No problem. He was looking for trouble and then founds some. Happy ending.

Zorro on February 29, 2008 at 8:55 PM

That was a bad plan.

Allahpundit, have you seen this video of a jet almost completely vaporizing when it hits concrete? Kind of destroys those Loose Change / Pentagon conspiracy theorists.

Christoph on February 29, 2008 at 8:58 PM

Viva la policia!

sondiehl on February 29, 2008 at 8:58 PM

Applying large amounts of kinetic energy generally does the trick.

AWESOME!

BobH on February 29, 2008 at 9:01 PM

Does this mean the liberal appraoch to crime is waning in Spain. How can we import “NO TOLERANCE” into the states?

hoi polloi on February 29, 2008 at 9:03 PM

ouch

trailortrash on February 29, 2008 at 9:03 PM

That was a brutal tactic.

Dr. Manhattan on February 29, 2008 at 9:03 PM

He coulda stuck the landing. He’ll never win ninja warrior like that.

lorien1973 on February 29, 2008 at 9:04 PM

All I can think of is Lucy with the football and Charlie Brown, “Aaaarrrgggghhhhh”!

Someone needs to make a mash-up of this with some cartoony sound effects over it.

You have the right to eat pavement.

And we Americans worry about waterboarding…

Cold Steel on February 29, 2008 at 9:10 PM

Maybe should have asked for something a little more substantial than a motorcycle….

Knuckledragger on February 29, 2008 at 9:12 PM

nice

vinllo on February 29, 2008 at 9:12 PM

Here we go,”Sudden Impact” comes to mind, and on a scale
I say he scored 3,for the plan,8 for the get away, and a solid 10 in an artistic double flip!OOwwiiee, and OUCH!

canopfor on February 29, 2008 at 9:13 PM

The bad part is people whine and complain about the use of tasers or other non leathal tactics in this country. Show them this, and they just may shut their yaps.

Sanjoboy on February 29, 2008 at 9:13 PM

Moral of the Story: Don’t take innocent people hostage.

amerpundit on February 29, 2008 at 9:13 PM

Knuckledragger on February 29, 2008 at 9:12 PM

Something tells me the Spaniards would have then upped the ante….
t-boning with a tank, or dropping a bomb on the guy.

Cold Steel on February 29, 2008 at 9:14 PM

I’m suprised CBS ran this story. Was it part of a bigger context, like how drug addict hostage takers have rights too?

THE CHOSEN ONE on February 29, 2008 at 9:15 PM

The Spaniards threw the Moors out and took back their country. Tough people. Have faith in them!

CrimsonFisted on February 29, 2008 at 9:15 PM

If we could just get the spanish to apply the same justice for
drug addicted hostage takers as, ummm, I dunno, TERRORISTS WHO BLOW UP YOUR SUBWAYS SYSTEM AND INNOCENT PEOPLE!

THE CHOSEN ONE on February 29, 2008 at 9:16 PM

How much do you want to be that if Americans had done this the Europeans would be talking about how we are all big “cowboys”?

Nessuno on February 29, 2008 at 9:18 PM

He coulda stuck the landing. He’ll never win ninja warrior like that.

lorien1973 on February 29, 2008 at 9:04 PM

Does Spain have a ACLU or a code pink?
It will be interesting to see how the spanish msm and public deals with this story.

SoulGlo on February 29, 2008 at 10:03 PM

So could this be called extreme crash tackled, as opposed to just regular crash tackled?

IrishEyes on February 29, 2008 at 10:06 PM

Muy Bueno!

Alden Pyle on February 29, 2008 at 10:08 PM

Sorry boys, I think this guy is out of jail by now….

A man tried to rob a bank, and exchanged hostag… (more)
Added: January 19, 2006

Allah, don’t you think CBS should have checked thier sources?

Seven Percent Solution on February 29, 2008 at 10:11 PM

There’s got to be a high degree of difficulty on that dive. What was the final score?

Splunge on February 29, 2008 at 10:18 PM

A 10?! He completely blew the dismount!

Mark V. on February 29, 2008 at 10:24 PM

Sweeeeeet. And thanks, Allah, for the reprise of the Brit bikers handling the disagreement in Chelsea. Great fun.

CrimsonFisted on February 29, 2008 at 9:15 PM

As far as the Spaniards being tough cookies, look what they did after the train bombings on 3/11/04. They pulled out all support of the war on terror and kicked out their conservative, US allied leader.

The Spaniards of today are wimps compared to the 16th century conquistadors.

BowHuntingTexas on February 29, 2008 at 10:59 PM

The slo-mo reply shows the man making almost two complete revolutions and a very rough landing.

Very nice. However, I suspect the Australians would have been good for at least four.

You have the right to eat pavement.

Cold Steel on February 29, 2008 at 9:10 PM

Not to minimize what happened in Spain, but they do this after the attacks there.

…while LIBERALS in America worry about waterboarding…after 911.

Will Spain go wiggly spined after a period of time?

9.2. I’ll concede the .3 for the effort, but the other .5 would depend on the look on his face, and whether he made a droll statement once he stopped rolling.

91Veteran on February 29, 2008 at 11:19 PM

Many progressives have issues with swift, efficient justice. It doesn’t allow them the necessary time to preen. The ACLU would actually have to disband and start practicing real law. We prefer cops with zip-ties and tazers. Thank you Spain for showing appropriate and measured response. They had 12 hours to devise and execute this plan. Game over, man.

Cold Steel on February 29, 2008 at 11:28 PM

Dios Mio! LOL!

OK, I’ll raise you a 9.3 and a 0.7 for the double bad form summersalt, and deduct 0.3 for the crash.

Kini on March 1, 2008 at 12:00 AM

This clip I’m guessing is from here, from 2004. Still a darn good link. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?….

Sure, with an extra .2 if he asked where the baggage claim was.

91Veteran on March 1, 2008 at 12:14 AM

Does Spain have a ACLU or a code pink?

Just Prime Minister Zapatero, if you need him.

Kid from Brooklyn on March 1, 2008 at 12:44 AM

The real question is, will the people who are against this kind of treatment, take to the streets to protest this kind of police act, but crashing their motorcycles into cars, just as they would protest torture by waterboarding themselves?

DakRoland on March 1, 2008 at 12:47 AM

Not “but crashing”, I meant that to say “by crashing”. 12:48 in the morning, and my proofreading skills are shot. Sorry.

DakRoland on March 1, 2008 at 12:48 AM

This is an outrage!! I hope the ACLU of Spain files a lawsuit against the police. How dare they treat a hardened criminal with such a inhumane move. That was a cruel and highly unusual tactic.

His civil rights of being healthy enough to obtain drugs and to rob again were violated.

jediwebdude on March 1, 2008 at 12:49 AM

Who’s gonna pay for the damage to the vehicles?
What a waste.
But seriously, can anybody imagine the OUTRAGE if that were to happen in the U.S.?
Lawyers drooling and parachuting in like airborne rangers.

gzelmiami on March 1, 2008 at 12:49 AM

I think this is a total coincidence. The cop who hit the motorcycle had actually heard of a terrorist threat in that same area, and was trying to go home for his ciesta break.

THE CHOSEN ONE on March 1, 2008 at 12:51 AM

I like this blogging/posting thing.
Have to control myself though.

Mojave Mark on March 1, 2008 at 1:46 AM

Knuckledragger on February 29, 2008 at 9:12 PM

Was thinking the same thing; like a Volvo, Humvee, or maybe a Prius so he could drive under the other car.

A 10?! He completely blew the dismount!

Mark V. on February 29, 2008 at 10:24 PM

HAHAHA!

- The Cat

P.S. Reminds me of Sledge Hammer.

P.P.S. Trust me. I know what I’m doing.

MirCat on March 1, 2008 at 1:52 AM

Watch it again closely: the guy actually skims across the asphalt on the very top of his head before total wipeout.

This ought to be standard procedure for all high speed pursuits: Scumbag runs, cops ram.

SuperCool on March 1, 2008 at 2:01 AM

he should have been wearing Iron Man’s armor. “Yeah, I can flyyyyyyyyyyy WHAM!”

Mallard T. Drake on March 1, 2008 at 2:14 AM

Question: Did he have a permit to operate a motorcycle? Otherwise, he’ll really be in trouble!

evenkeel on March 1, 2008 at 2:22 AM

I am glad that he got pavement rash and I am also glad that they did not hit the wrong guy.

Johan Klaus on March 1, 2008 at 2:35 AM

Excelente!

That was hilarious! Thanks for the belly laugh, AP!

Viscount_Bolingbroke on March 1, 2008 at 2:48 AM

Barack Hussein Obama would have negotiated with him.

Just sayin’…..

Talon on March 1, 2008 at 3:18 AM

Justis!!! With a twist.

tengger on March 1, 2008 at 3:39 AM

Just imagine if the NYPD, LAPD or DPD (Detroit Police Department) had done that? We’d be watching video of the crash and subsequent trial attempted second degree murder trials for months. It’d probably beat the first OJ trial out in terms of length and coverage as the “rogue” and “brutal” cops faced ‘the peoples’ justice’. I can only hope (for the cops’ sake) there’s no ACLU in Spain.

Virus-X on March 1, 2008 at 4:51 AM

Sweet. :)

WayWard Fundamentalist Christian on March 1, 2008 at 5:03 AM

If only his grenade would have exploded upon “sticking” the landing, that would have been a fitting end.

Ltmousseman on March 1, 2008 at 5:23 AM

This video has been around for a couple of years. The tactic worked good too!!

tx2654 on March 1, 2008 at 5:25 AM

If this happened in the US he would sue the driver of the car.

cat-scratch on March 1, 2008 at 7:22 AM

Spanish justice with bone-jarring nuance.

RickZ on March 1, 2008 at 8:35 AM

Now if only our cops were allowed to do this to running criminals. It’s sad when the Spanish cops are more cowboy than our cops.

thekingtut on March 1, 2008 at 8:45 AM

I was all excited until I find out this video is from like 4 years ago. Ack… Spain has woosified quit a bit in the last 4 years. Not sure if this accurately reflects good things from them in the near future.

Lawrence on March 1, 2008 at 9:36 AM

That was so incredible that Cathy Lee Crosby, John Davidson and Fran Tarkenton are reuniting just to show it again on TV…

Captain Scarlet on March 1, 2008 at 11:07 AM

The Spanish with CAJONES, you got to be kidding me huh??

pueblo1032 on March 1, 2008 at 11:53 AM

I thought the Spanish were gutless wonders. Compare those guys to the Philadelphia Police, it makes our boys look like bunch of little girls.

volsense on March 1, 2008 at 12:15 PM

That was Awesome!

The only way it could have been better would be a planted grenade on the bike and then BOOM!

epluribusunum on March 1, 2008 at 12:21 PM

Should have just executed him on the spot. Now he’ll become a hero of the revolution.

spmat on March 1, 2008 at 12:40 PM

If he suvives I think he shoukd have to pay for the damage to the police car.

the original on March 1, 2008 at 12:55 PM

“…This man picked the wrong time, and the wrong way, to support his drug habit.”

Can you imagine CBS news (an American announcer in the London office) ending their report this way if this had involved American police officers or troops?

logis on March 1, 2008 at 1:07 PM

They read him his Carmen Miranda rights — “You have the right to become a hood ornament.”
