This movie, however, is going to be crap. I don’t care if you’re a superhero or not; members of the U. S. Armed Forces have voluntarily signed contracts to put themselves in harm’s way to keep YOU safe. Anyone who wants to “protect the military” does not deserve my movie ticket. And it just sets the very predictable tone for the rest of the film.

So providing the best tools available doesn’t count as protecting the military? So we should just them out with sharp sticks since they signed up to protect us?

I guess it really depends on how negative you want to view the line. I took it as “I want to provide them with better tools and support” not “They can’t handle things themselves so I better step in”.

Guys, I have to say, this movie looks AWESOME. I’m a huge fan of comics, and this looks great.

Also, some worrying about anti-Americanism, when I heard that line I worried a bit too, but then I remembered a preview I saw for a movie tie-in comic that was written by the guy who directed it (Jon Favreau).

In it, Tony Stark is on a plane. A suicide bomber tries to hijack it. He grabs the guy as IRON MAN and flies him out of the plane. The terrorist blows himself up anyway. When Iron Man returns to the plane to tell everyone to stay calm, they yell at him (”Opressor! He was willing to negotiate! Go back to America!” or something along those lines). Turns out the plane was a French flight.

That preview, which I think was in Iron Man #25, gave me hope that this movie won’t be too liberal, if much at all.

A strong finish to that trailer. Iron Man stalking away before the tank explodes, knowing he hit the target. Then the Ozzy chaser. ::chills:: I’ll have to take my son to see it. Can’t see getting the wife to the theater.

I quite liked the “I want to protect the people I put in harms way” line, but it’s nice to see enough people feel so patronised that they’re already writing the whole film off as ‘crap’

They must’ve really hated Rambo back in the 80s, too..

This looks like good fun.

That is the most badass trailer I’ve seen since Transformers.

…and I loved Transformers.

Man, they even end the trailer with THAT song. I didn’t think that they’d have the guts to use it. (Or Ozzy’s permission)

Yes, Capt. got killed at the end of the Civil War series, but as another poster mentioned, Bucky (the original) will take up the shield. I wish I had the funds to start collecting commics again, but alas, the baby needs his diapers.

Whoops! Sorry, y’all – didn’t mean to repost What Has Gone Before.

Justice League is going to be a dud, and franchise-killer. Warner Bros needs to learn from Marvel: introduce the characters with their own films, THEN team them up.

Bale and company are none too happy about the no-names stealing Batman’s thunder. I’m not a fan of Routh, but there is surely more demand for seeing him and Bale than a bunch of kids.

It’s possible they’ll hit the alcoholic angle in the sequel, but from what I read Favreau really knows what he’s doing and is playing this one as straight origin story. They could be playing up the white liberal guilt angle a little, but that’s the way it was in the first one, except it was the Viet Cong who captured Stark.
Rumor has it Samuel L Jackson is going to be Nick Fury of SHIELD in this film AND in the Hulk reboot with Ed Norton coming out. I just hope, with Thor and Captain America in development, that they have enough sense to avoid the whole Civil War fiasco, with Spidey unmasking and Iron Man demanding heroes expose their identities, with Cap leading the ‘resistance’ that ultimately got him killed.

First we get a good realization of Nightcrawler in X2, now Iron Man.

When they do Moon Knight a la Sienkiewicz (or even the current Huston run, which is a little too bloody for me) I can die happy. Moon Knight is Batman with all the safety settings turned off.

I dont think GI joe will be as bad as people think. Alot of people trashed it because they found out that GI Joe would be fighting a “Scottish Arms Dealer” not realizing that the character Destro, one of GI Joes classic enemies, was in fact both Scottish and an arms dealer.

As for The Dark Knight, I’m also hopeful. Didn’t care much for the trailer, but the first six minutes of the movie they ran in IMAX theaters was wonderful.

I’m agnostic on the script, but always thought Downey was a brilliant casting choice for Tony Stark, so long as he could finish the movie on the wagon. Indeed, I always thought that they made sure to put Jim Rhodes in the script in case he had to take over from Stark, just as in the comic book.
