"Once they started finding that stuff, they knew where to look and we eventually found quite an amount," he said from the Persian Gulf. "We had a happy crew that day, that's for sure."

What a shame, hash is delicious. If the terrorists are making money from selling weed, then why not legalize it so I can grow a few plants?
I also find it funny that the governmet is so gung ho on stopping drugs from coming into the country but we let Afghanistan grow the biggest crop of heroin that makes it's way to the US. What's up with that? If we're throwing money at all of our problems, why not buy all the heroin from Afghani's and then just destroy it?
Iknow, I know, common sense. Geez.

man, what a waste. but I guess if there were purported terrorist links, perhaps it's for the better. I'd rather have that home grown anyway :)

Exactly.

I feel sooo much safer from terrorists now knowing that thousands of stoner couch potatoes will have to go without their hash stash for a week or two.

Lt.-Cmdr. Mike Davie of HMCS Charlottetown said Wednesday that about 20 crew members boarded the Al Moula Madad on Feb. 18 following a tip that the traditional sailing vessel was tied to unnamed terrorist groups.

There is still an illegal booze market even though booze is legal. Most of the moonshiners just don't want to pay taxes on their booze. Based on that your arguement on black markets falls a little short Mark Jaquith

No, the addictive and mind-altering qualities of drugs have nothing to do with it, Mark.

PS by this logic we should allow free international flow of plutonium. No use trying to stop it, right?

Just say no, kids.

What, or you'll end up funding terror? News flash: suppressing the free flow of goods creates black markets. Black markets are attractive to criminals because of the artificially high profit margins. If you banned bibles, terrorists and other criminal organizations would traffic in them to reap the lucrative profits. This is a association created by prohibition, not anything inherent to drugs.

29Victor,

Canada has a maritime branch of their Armed Forces. At current rates, however, they will likely be bigger than the Royal Navy in a few years.

I went sailing back in the '90s on a Canadian Armed Forces recreational sailboat with a diesel engine technician who was on ship and whose next assignment was going to be with the ground forces. It was a lovely Halifax September weekend and after a day on a boat we went to some local pubs. A good time was had by all.
