I think it was a reference to the children’s book “Little Black Sambo” story, which, while placed in India, was illustrated with what many interepreted as racist caricatures of blacks, and banned in libraries across the U.S. The name “Sambo” was then conflated, and apparently used by some of our former posters, as a racist epithet.

Please don’t ban me for the explanation…

Oh, and the book has been retitled and re-illustrated, and it’s actually a great story. We have it at home, but I forget the new title :(
