Hot Air commenter of the day

posted at 4:34 pm on February 28, 2008 by Michelle

You never know who’s reading you on Hot Air. In today’s USA Today On Politics blog:

One of the funnier li[n]es about all this today comes from commenter 29Victor at Hot Air: “Good thing McCain wasn’t born on February 29th, they’d be debating whether or not he is over 35.”

Har.

Bravo Zulu, 29Victor. You done made us proud.

Do all of the people at the NYT come from working at The Onion?

They’d wonder if Hillary was 35 as well, but no one would do the math to check the Messiah.

Good one, I missed that. Good to see that the NYT is reading Hot Air, maybe it will have a positive effect.

No, What we NEED is a SHOOT TO KILL Order at our Borders! A couple of ‘em going back in BODY BAGS and they’d think TWICE about sneaking across that BORDER!

I hope the prizes from the management and Gannett are better than what I can offer :-)

Congrats, Victor29.

steveegg on February 28, 2008 at 5:18 PM

29Victor, even. I really need to learn to proof-read.

steveegg on February 28, 2008 at 5:19 PM

Oy, those comments “Von Pewps” highlighted are vile, and certainly TOS violations.

Mark Jaquith on February 28, 2008 at 5:23 PM

They like me, they really like me.

Thanks Michelle. Thanks everyone.

I have to give the credit to Gilbert and Sullivan. The idea being, of course, stolen from Pirates of Penzance. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend the Rex Smith/Kevin Kline production, not yet out on DVD :(.

29Victor on February 28, 2008 at 5:24 PM

Ya’ gotta take the good with the bad and there are some really high levels of bad here now that the back door got left open. Take Hiney Von Pewps for example. A classic case of liberal ignorance attached to the left’s penis like a octopus to a canoe full of pirates in a shwashbuckler’s Saturday afternoon matinee. Slicker ‘n Texas roadkill in a rain storm. That one is.

Griz on February 28, 2008 at 5:24 PM

Kevin Kline as the Pirate King? How have I not heard of this?

Netflix’d!

gabriel sutherland on February 28, 2008 at 5:28 PM

I’ve been told this before. Apparently a distaste for racial slurs is a “liberal” trait.

Hiney Von Pewps on February 28, 2008 at 5:32 PM

Glad to see 29victor here didnt want to put out a

“29victor where are you” ? type alert.

William Amos on February 28, 2008 at 5:34 PM

Woot!

But does USA Today read HA or Patterico, where he was also quoted?

Either way, well done!

TexasDan on February 28, 2008 at 5:36 PM

Congrats Victor & HotAir!

ButtAss von Poops always likes to poop in the party punch and remind us how awful we all are. Although I don’t agree with the sentiment, I really don’t understand how adopting a border plan similar to the one Mexico uses on its southern border is a “racial slur”.

Hiney Von Pewps on February 26, 2008 at 6:43 PM

You know Western Civ, your mother sure can take a nut in the cootch.

Hiney Von Pewps on February 26, 2008 at 6:25 PM

I mean, it’s probably the case that a person’s mother, Aristotle’s mother for instance, probably handled several penises belonging to differnt men. You know, with the same hands she would tousle the hair on his young head with as a boy. Long befor her hands wiped poopoo from his infant bottom, her hands handled the penises of a variety of men. Those men, in turn would grapple and slurp upon the very same breasts…

Oh, I see what you mean, Dave. Yea, why are Aristotle and Geronimo and the rest of them ashamed of their mothers? It’s PC now that we have to pretend that people hatch from eggs?

Hiney Von Pewps on February 27, 2008 at 5:14 PM

Yes. I remember sonnyspats’ classy commentary about “beaners” and all the classy talk about how mainstream conservatives should work with White Nationalist goons. Ooh, there was that veritable black tie event when all those old posters turned these comments sections into Hal Turner’s amen corner.

You seem to remember a different “good old days” than I do. I’m proud of having alienated the people I’ve allegedly driven from the board.

Now, could we just get back to talking about what a clever guy I am?

Free Constitution on February 28, 2008 at 6:15 PM

I think it was a reference to the children’s book “Little Black Sambo” story, which, while placed in India, was illustrated with what many interepreted as racist caricatures of blacks, and banned in libraries across the U.S. The name “Sambo” was then conflated, and apparently used by some of our former posters, as a racist epithet.

Please don’t ban me for the explanation…

Oh, and the book has been retitled and re-illustrated, and it’s actually a great story. We have it at home, but I forget the new title :(

TexasDan on February 28, 2008 at 6:26 PM

Now back to you, 29Victor.

Griz on February 28, 2008 at 5:24 PM

No one can make us look bad except ourselves. Von Pewps is a little redundant with his message. But aren’t we all?

Every person in here has a bone to pick; and we all do a pretty good job of getting our points across. Some are over the top, others are rude, others are factually inaccurate. Some are all of the above.

Still, none of us is more entitled to this space than others. Von Pewps can only be blamed so much; he accurately quotes a couple of commenters. Attacking the messenger is a sign of serious weakness. The correction needs to be made in-house…to our fellow conservatives.

I can’t speak for the management (or more specifically, the techies), and I honestly don’t want them to give a detailed answer, but as somebody less-talented than the techies who runs WordPress on his own domain, there are ways to do both.

steveegg on February 28, 2008 at 7:06 PM

At least the good people at USA Today were gracious enough to properly source the comment.

Or perhaps, perhaps, they just knew better than to swipe stuff from the Boss’s peeps.

Good job, Vic.

OK, something I never quite understood…If someone is born on Feb. 29th (I know this is a little OT) does that mean, for legal purposes and such, that it’s “observed” on the 28th, or March 1st?

Congrats 29 victor
But did anybody else catch the fact that they actually named the commentator instead of the previous practice of just giving the comment? Are bloggers and those who comment on blogs now coming out of the shadows? Will other news media start using this method? After the grief for misidentifying whether quotes are coming from blog “owners” rather then the folks who comment on them maybe this is the wave of the future or dare I say CHANGE!
