Open thread: The “Get Bambi!” debate

9 p.m. ET on MSNBC. Last chance for our gal, for realsies. The boss, cynic that she is, has already liveblogged it in Laphamesque fashion. In the unlikely event that either party veers from the script — we’re in a cooldown stage, after all — we’ll have video here later. If you’re looking for schadenfreude, enjoy Clinton crony Leon Panetta taking a ceremonial dump on ace Hillary pollster Mark Penn. If it’s Messiah reading you want, take your pick: Newsweek offering him as the first woman president or the Wash Times suggesting that the Pentagon’s wringing its hands at the thought of a true blue lefty C-in-C (”A senior Pentagon official said an Obama swearing-in ‘will give the Arab street the final victory, the best optics, and the ultimate in bragging rights. They win. We lose.’”) We know from the left’s incessant pounding of the chickenhawk meme that only the military really knows what it’s talking about in matters of war, so weigh that accordingly.

I believe. I still believe.

Update: “One member said the only way he wouldn’t vote for Clinton is if he died.”

Spirit of 1776 on February 26, 2008 at 10:34 PM

False alarm. It was just Chrissy Matthews. Again.

bofh on February 26, 2008 at 10:37 PM

Uggh… KO’s voice just came on and I promptly threw up in my mouth and changed the channel.

VolMagic on February 26, 2008 at 10:37 PM

That’s not Olberman!!! Must. Change. Channn…. aaarrggghhh!

Ok. Who won?

Over30 on February 26, 2008 at 10:36 PM

Olberdouche will tell you who got Chrissy all tingley tonight.

fogw on February 26, 2008 at 10:37 PM

I like hearing Chrissy’s analysis.

nemo239 on February 26, 2008 at 10:37 PM

As far as I know, every illegal alien in Southern California (half of Mexico now, thank you very much for not securing the border) can walk into any Emergency Room and get treated for anything, and not pay.

So Hillary and Obama, what are you talking about?

Seven Percent Solution on February 26, 2008 at 10:36 PM

They use the misnomer, Health Care, when what they really mean is Health Insurance.

carbon_footprint on February 26, 2008 at 10:38 PM

Tweedy Bird: Brigadone?
you mean, Brigadoon.

Over30 on February 26, 2008 at 10:39 PM

I just saw the pic! I was at RWS’ blog and doing the chat thing. Great capture AP!

lsutiger on February 26, 2008 at 10:39 PM

Chrissy just said the strongest statement she made tonight was when she said she wanted a do-over in Iraq.

Do you get Mulligans in war time?

fogw on February 26, 2008 at 10:40 PM

Anyone tired of watching the Leftwing extremists debate each other over who is more extreme than the other?

Chakra Hammer on February 26, 2008 at 10:40 PM

They use the misnomer, Health Care, when what they really mean is Health Insurance.

carbon_footprint on February 26, 2008 at 10:38 PM

Of course they do! It’s because they care, ya know. Damn that word “insurance”. It’s so cold and mean…

;)

eanax on February 26, 2008 at 10:41 PM

Great point, fogw.

nemo239 on February 26, 2008 at 10:41 PM

Cue violins.

fogw on February 26, 2008 at 10:35 PM

We lost.

profitsbeard on February 26, 2008 at 10:37 PM

I followed the thread, primarily to read what fogw and profitsbeard said.

It’s a big puzzle to me that both of you can stand to watch this. You two ‘kill’ me, in this regard. Otherwise, I adore both of you.

I’ll admit to this much - I turned it on for 2 min. to see her outfit (just because some of you here referred to it). She looked like she was at a funeral wake, and he looked lost.

Entelechy on February 26, 2008 at 10:41 PM

The whole “drove the bus into the ditch” by Barak was a well-veiled phrase w/ the sublimital -itch ending.

Over30 on February 26, 2008 at 10:42 PM

Last chance for our gal, for realsies.

Maybe it’s wishful thinking on my part, but I think she did well enough. All you Republicans that can vote for her Tuesday! We need chaos in Denver!

SouthernGent on February 26, 2008 at 10:42 PM

Do you get Mulligans in war time life?

fogw on February 26, 2008 at 10:40 PM

Only if you are the leftie ‘intelligentsia’.

Entelechy on February 26, 2008 at 10:42 PM

Chakra Hammer on February 26, 2008 at 10:40 PM

Hey Chakra. Yes, me. I tried to find some other channel to get some post-debate analysis, but there isn’t one.

Geez. I even went to PBS hoping for an unbiased analysis. Is that sad or what.

BacaDog on February 26, 2008 at 10:43 PM

Yay, Chaos!!!

nemo239 on February 26, 2008 at 10:43 PM

False alarm. It was just Chrissy Matthews. Again.

Haha. Very funny! [New? Welcome, btw]

All you Republicans that can vote for her Tuesday! We need chaos in Denver!

Oh man, I missed the deadline to register for March 4. Can I vote for her in November? Is that doable?

Mark V. on February 26, 2008 at 10:46 PM

Is Oberlgasm the biggest dumbass in the world, or is that reserved only for husbands?

The only thing missing is Bryant Gumbell making a racist point about white republicans.

BacaDog on February 26, 2008 at 10:47 PM

Clean up in aisle 9, Chris Matthews had an Obamagasm.

benrand on February 26, 2008 at 10:47 PM

I meant Kabuki, not Gheisha. The cab sav is talking.

Over30 on February 26, 2008 at 10:48 PM

To be fair, I thought Russert did a pretty good job tonight with his questions. I hope he has run-flat tires.

BacaDog on February 26, 2008 at 10:48 PM

Russert did pretty well, imho. Olbermann is parsing Potatohead’s questions.

p0s3r on February 26, 2008 at 10:49 PM

Mark V. - just say your a Dem. You don’t need any stinkin registration!

nemo239 on February 26, 2008 at 10:50 PM

I don’t understand the fear of Obama as an opponent, on the part of conservative and libertarian Americans. Do I appear to be wrong in thinking that McCain can mop the floor with Obama? Obama and Clinton seem to be too close in their views for Clinton to be able to provide a sharp critique of him as regards political issues. Also, both must aim much of their demagoguery at the left and at blacks. However, it seems McCain can skewer Obama on the issues and on Obama’s lack of experience, without worrying about offending either the left or blacks, as neither seem reasonably to be expected to vote for McCain in large numbers anyway!

Kralizec on February 26, 2008 at 10:51 PM

Tweedy Bird and Potato Head. I’d love to see those guys in a headbutting cage match.

Over30 on February 26, 2008 at 10:52 PM

No, I don’t live in the Rio Grande Valley, I’m sure I would have to be registered.

Mark V. on February 26, 2008 at 10:52 PM

Maybe it’s wishful thinking on my part, but I think she did well enough. All you Republicans that can vote for her Tuesday! We need chaos in Denver!

SouthernGent on February 26, 2008 at 10:42 PM

Me thinks that plan is in the works…….

Seven Percent Solution on February 26, 2008 at 10:52 PM

Has Olberdouche made any little snarky comments about Barry mispronouncing a US state?

Just think he might have ripped any Republican on Fixed News who butchered it.

How about Hillary trundling through a pathetic answer about Putin? Nah, didn’t think he would.

benrand on February 26, 2008 at 10:54 PM

I don’t understand the fear of Obama as an opponent, on the part of conservative and libertarian Americans.

Well, a lot of them were really scared in 2004 that Bush would lose to Kerry. Kerry.

Of course, then, Bush was our nominee…

Mark V. on February 26, 2008 at 10:56 PM

Entelechy-

I feel my pain!

I avoided every previous Dem debate (except for comic highlights) and felt it was my historical duty to suffer through one.

As per fogw, I had a BIG glass of Shiraz in my left paw throughout.

It is now empty.

Off to refill before the ObamApocalypse!

profitsbeard on February 26, 2008 at 10:56 PM

Debate after Debate. Hours and Hours of watching these 2 Liberals agree with eachother. Other than a miniscule difference in the details of healthcare they are the same. Obama will face a real debate with McCain.

Dennis D on February 26, 2008 at 10:56 PM

I think both are vulnerable on their answers to Russert’s questions about leaving Iraq if its sovereign government told us to, followed by his asking if they would then re-invade should it “go to hell”. Sets them up for inconsistency, esp. as compared with Obama’s pledge to go into Pakistan (another sovereign country) after AQ figures.

mikeyboss on February 26, 2008 at 10:56 PM

You’d be even more impressed if you knew I was typing with a drink in each hand.

fogw on February 26, 2008 at 10:46 PM

That makes me so proud of you :) I think I will start to drink if any of these two becomes president, even though I don’t like to drink. Sad, so sad about our country. Its people are psychotic and idiotic. Sad, indeed.

Entelechy on February 26, 2008 at 11:01 PM

So did one of the other win the debate? What’s the settlement, the having-in-completeness, the entelechy?

ForNow on February 26, 2008 at 11:03 PM

Jesse Jackson just said “Jefertj kiodfird vesj presaw ksingo ghachi nuunu fleerop awwwgha dagmud.”

fogw on February 26, 2008 at 11:06 PM

LOL Jesse Jackson is so full of shit.

p0s3r on February 26, 2008 at 11:07 PM

All that debate was missing was somebody jumping up in the audience and screaming, “Won’t someone please think of the children!?”

Oh, and somebody fainting. (Where were you, Chrissy?)

Mark V. on February 26, 2008 at 11:07 PM

let’s steer away from stupid nonsense into incomprehensible nonsense with Mr. Jackson.. I can’t take it much longer.

nemo239 on February 26, 2008 at 11:08 PM

I feel my pain!

It is now empty.

Off to refill before the ObamApocalypse!

profitsbeard on February 26, 2008 at 10:56 PM

pb, I feel our pain. Seriously, I’m very pained by what’s happening, and about to happen. I used to refrain from calling the electorate idiotic, fearing to come across arrogant, especially as a naturalized citizen. Once fogw did so, I lost my inhibition in this regard.

Whatever happens, however, I’m honored (not like Hillary) to be in your and fogw’s sphere, and I’ll raise a glass for you two. Both of you can say so much, with so few words. The intellect/wit shines through. Thanks for all, even if I don’t say it often enough. Your contributions are precious gems. Would that the electorate were comprised of at least 60% with such intelligence and clear thinking.

Entelechy on February 26, 2008 at 11:08 PM

“it has been an honor.. now die muther f-er”

nemo239 on February 26, 2008 at 11:09 PM

Sounded like Jackson was implying O’Reilly’s “lynch” comment actually put Michelle O in danger.

mikeyboss on February 26, 2008 at 11:12 PM

It’s amazing to watch the press turn on Hillary like this! I don’t like the lady at all but am shocked to have just watched the 2 “moderators” trounce on Hillary. They wouldn’t even let her finish and kept cutting her off. Messiah gets as much time as needed and can do nothing wrong. Even the post-debate they are just in love with Hussein! I guess I just never thought I would see the day when the liberal media turned on the Clinton’s. McCain better stay away from any debate that NBC has anything to do with. They seem to be the absolute worst.

Nils2en on February 26, 2008 at 11:12 PM

I see they have a text message poll going. How do I vote for Ron Paul?

mikeyboss on February 26, 2008 at 11:15 PM

My dear friend Entelechy,

You don’t have an arrogant bone in your body. We are all better off with you having set your anchor here in the good old USofA and gain much from your unique perspective on world events, past and present.

fogw on February 26, 2008 at 11:24 PM

McCain’s buddies in the media are gonna cold cock him when the general debate starts.

Mojave Mark on February 26, 2008 at 11:25 PM

They finally asked some tough questions tonight. I gotta believe the SNL skit really got to them and they had to ask some tough questions or face SNL part deux.

Hillary is as inept a public speaker as we always thought she was. It’s no surprise she let us down and couldn’t stop Obamessiah.

soundingboard on February 27, 2008 at 1:13 AM

Lets face it, Hillary is just unattractive with that voice and those pantsuits…how did we ever think she was the inevitable candidate?

With 20/20 hindsight, she seems real weak…uninspiring…and her voice is just grating.

Kinda like McCain except a female. And with the democrats, the dont just give it to the oldest guy, regardless of unelectablity, if its his turn…whatever that means.

Ahhhhhhh one drink in one hand each will not soothe me, not only do I not find ANY conservatives to vote for, I now have Republicans in MN overriding vetoes to spend more of MY money. Yes , I know the Democrats did it… but now I have to fight a guerrilla war here in MN. I thought I was done fighting back in 71…. Arrrrgh!

MNDavenotPC on February 27, 2008 at 12:41 PM

As my dear and departed mom used to say: “Lordy Moses in the bullrushes!” I think the line that the black cook has in one of the 3 Stooges skits fits even better: ‘The world sho-gone crazy!’
Well, Michelle got it right: ‘Hillary plays passive-aggressive’, but much to HRC’s dismay, it doesn’t work when the recipient doesn’t lose his cool. Good job Barak.
Here come the real tests…next Tues. and then the super-dee dooper delegates.

“Get Bambi” ?? As far as I am concerned, she is no doe eyed little furry creature! She plays up the poor little woman card way more than Obama plays the race card. But to me they both use that too often, when it should be on the issues, NOT the race or gender!

Cherie in WA on February 28, 2008 at 1:41 PM

Cherie,

“Bambi” is Obama. Not Shrillary.

Oh BAH Ma.
Oh BAM Bi.
“Bambi”

Shirotayama on February 28, 2008 at 2:25 PM

The Clintons are MUCH too close to the situation to even BEGIN to understand why Bambi’s so successfully stomping all over Hitlery’s presidential dreams.

The libs are swooning over Bambi for a VERY SIMPLE reason, yet one the Clinton’s just can’t see, they’re just too close to the situation, as close as close gets.

The reason is: He isn’t THEM. THAT’S why he’s trouncing them. Until the Clintons understand that, they’ll continue to look like ineffective idiots.

Get out the butter ‘n’ jam, she’s TOAST.

Shirotayama on February 28, 2008 at 2:28 PM

Shirotayama,

Thanks, that makes sense. Although, my comments stand either way! And, you are right, the reason he is “gulp” so successful is he is NOT a Clinton.

Cherie in WA on February 28, 2008 at 2:51 PM

All I see is Hillary trying to rectify all the damage she has done to herself with her smear campaign tactics. She has lost this campaign all by herself by using those tried and true Clinton attack dogs that got he husband elected. Thankfully America is not a dumb as they were then, and is finally getting sick and tired of the lefts insistence on using smear tactics as their sole tool for winning. That is the reason that Bambi has been doing so well. He has made himself look like the better man (I don’t consider Hillary a woman). That is also the reason I feel that McCain has done so well on the Republican side. He has run a relatively clean campaign compared to Romney’s. I think that Bambi, once he has sealed the deal on the Democratic nomination, will start using the smear tactics against McCain. And I think McCain will stick to a relatively respectful campaign, he will win the election. Which, contrary to most, I think would be much better for the country then letting Bambi or Billary win. Look how much Bush screwed up the federal budget in four years. Now imagine how many fascistic mandates either one of those two could accomplish in four years. It just scares me too much to not vote for McCain. At least with McCain you know what you’re getting.

CabeLovlie on February 28, 2008 at 2:53 PM

Cherie,

No big. And I’m “gulping” right with ya.

Unfortunately, all THREE of ‘em scare me. Bambi, Shrillary, and McCainiac.

I’m coming to the conclusion that in the modern age the US Presidential selection process as a result of its very design (a design that may be worked in an earlier era but certainly doesn’t now!) only results in…nay, guarantees…that only lunatics and megalomaniacs run for office and succeed.

Terrifying.

Shirotayama on February 28, 2008 at 2:56 PM

Shirotayama,

Yes, the system is indeed messed up! The only hope is for our youth to take a vested interest in the direction our country is leaning and tip it back to the “right” side!
