Audio: Immigration — Ingraham vs. Rivera II

The first bout ended in a draw; the occasion for the rematch is the release of Spitty’s new book, “His Panic,” in which he apparently makes the case that even the most cursory support for border enforcement is ipso facto proof of America’s latent Klan-ish tendencies. The full interview ran 21 minutes but I whittled it down to an essential 11:30. Is the boss’s name mentioned? Isn’t it always when Geraldo starts whining?
My favorite part is where he pretends not to know how Mexico handles this problem.

Geraldo “I Am A Palestinianist” Rivera is about as much a journalist as Baba Wahwah.
Hilts on February 26, 2008 at 3:32 PM
I listened this morning.
what a load he is.
fox must have been hard-up when hiring him.
jimmer on February 26, 2008 at 3:35 PM
God I hate Geraldo, he is such a douchebag. And its not just because he called my friend a mass murderer on national television without any proof and never withdrew his BS claim. Fox News loses ALL credibility for allowing him on the air.
muyoso on February 26, 2008 at 3:35 PM
The Stash is back. Oy, I heard him reference a “right wing bomb thrower” last night on O’Reilly, had to be a reference to Michelle.
The closest Geraldo has been to a real racist is the skinhead that broke his nose with a chair. I know in his eyes, anyone without a bouquet of flowers on the border is a racist.
Geraldo doesn’t get it.
Geronimo on February 26, 2008 at 3:36 PM
Geraldo should have never been let out of Al Capone’s vault. He also should not be on Fox. He’s CNN material for sure – a flaming liberal…

I couldn’t take it. I had to turn to the radio off and listen to Mark Levin’s show from last night.

The only good thing the Moustached One is good for is keeping the problem of “Illegal Immigration” front and center.

Now…why would Laura put this douchebag on the radio during her valuable time? He’s a farcical character and a buffoon. Why?
Jaibones on February 26, 2008 at 3:45 PM
I do hope you’re referring to Mr. John Bolton’s eponymous trait, otherwise thems fightin’ wards.
spmat on February 26, 2008 at 3:46 PM
I heard this. He is a disgrace.
Why doesn’t Laura ask him what the He!!! we’re going to do when our prisons are full of the aliens and the ERs near him and his precious children are closed because the medical facility can’t afford to keep providing free health care to the aliens.
I wonder what his answer would be.
stenwin77 on February 26, 2008 at 3:47 PM
Geraldo is correct, we are a nation of immigrants…LEGAL immigrants.

Let’s make Geraldo’s house a safe haven/sanctuary for illegals.
Maybe that would change his tune a bit?
Geministorm on February 26, 2008 at 3:50 PM
Geraldo said that there’s a resugence of KKK membership due to all of Laura and her ilks pandering to the hard right wing? HUH!?! And he gets his facts where? What a tool, pure and simply this guy’s off his rocker with the damn blinders on, and yelling out, ‘Wherever there’s a Mexican there’s Mexico!’
Sultry Beauty on February 26, 2008 at 3:54 PM
Somehow your old-fashioned these days if you believe in border enforcement, patriotism and a sovereighn nation. This is soooo depressing.

Not only that…. but she is HOT!!!
Roger Waters on February 26, 2008 at 3:58 PM
Lord how big of a tool is this guy? I am continually amazed at how far his equivocation can go, this truly is unbelievable. What he does not get is his rhetoric galvanizes people otherwise predisposed to not care. People that notice all the drive thru’s in the area are suddenly staffed by Hispanics that smile unknowingly and say thank you in broken English. They go to a Homee Depot and notice the store signs in Spanish; they notice the help wanted signs in Spanish in places like Dayton, OH and Indianapolis IN. Then they hear Geraldo and he brings that person to the pro-enforcemnt side.
If pro-amnesty people want amnesty start calling it amnesty. Just admit it. Call it amnesty and then people can hear what you say after that. Playing the public for fools with a fine and rhetorical slight of hand only feeds the backlash.
Theworldisnotenough on February 26, 2008 at 3:58 PM
Don’t mess with The Stash, and we ain’t talking about Gerry Rivera.
New registration. I fear these people must be schooled on the lingo. Any reference to hair on the upper lip is strictly TM to one Mr. John Bolton, ex- Ambassador to the UN. Please don’t insult The Man!
Sultry Beauty on February 26, 2008 at 3:58 PM
AP, I’m happy to see that you’re going to continue to post about illegal immigration now that Bryan’s gone.
Your position on illegal immigration has never been clear to me. You usually express an opinion about how others address the subject, like “apparently makes the case that” or “Geraldo starts whining”. These things are all true, but they don’t give us any insight into your opinion of illegal immigration.
jaime on February 26, 2008 at 4:00 PM
Hernandez is a volunteer, thus not paid.
carbon_footprint on February 26, 2008 at 4:02 PM
First of all, there is no organized KKK anymore. They’re little more than a loosely knit group of people.
Second of all, the Aryan Nations is little more than a Forum now, in fact, there’s so infighting within in that group, they can’t even agree on the time of the day, much less anything else.
Also, the biggest group over at Stormfront.org are nothing more than a bunch of blow hards with computers. The so called “Threat” just does not exist.
So, this guy is so full of crap, it stinks.
WayWard Fundamentalist Christian on February 26, 2008 at 4:04 PM
How dare you racists disagree with Hispanics dont you know we are the chosen people ! ”
/Geraldo Riveria
The guy doesnt even get that his entire premise is racebaiting at its worse. Where is he any mre credible than Al Sharpton on the issue of race ?
You cant talk this issue with him at all as he automatically smears anyone who disagrees with him with a broad bush that “If you arent for open borders your a member of the KKK ” ?
Demogogery isnt “facts” Geraldo and debate isnt your side constantly smearing anyone who disagrees with it
William Amos on February 26, 2008 at 4:04 PM
I suggest you look in the vault and read the threads at the time of the immigration debate in the Senate (Amnesty Bill). AP acquitted himself extremely well, and frankly earned my loyalty at that time. He sees the issue slightly differently then I, but it was specifically that period that inspired me to give his opinions more than casual consideration.
Spirit of 1776 on February 26, 2008 at 4:06 PM
As much as I love Laura, I can’t bring myself to hear his voice and will take it on faith that she kicked the tar out of him. Every time he’s on FOX I tivo to the next segment.
That’s how much I detest the man.
John the Libertarian on February 26, 2008 at 4:06 PM
In his classic Geraldo pandering, Rivera would have you think that these are his people. Geraldo is Puerto Rican, a people who are not only not immigrants, but are in fact citizens of the USA.

It’s a sad day when I’ll need AP’s opinion for clarity on a story. Sometimes he makes me jump up and down for joy. Sometimes. I much prefer his wry sense of humor to his political acumen.

Hiney Von Pewps on February 26, 2008 at 4:22 PM
LOL. Thanks, SB, but I’m not asking for clarification on a story. I’m just saying that I don’t know AP’s opinion about illegal immigration from reading his blog. I did see him say something like “I’m not a fan of big labor, but watch Dorgan chop up…”, or something like that. That says more about AP’s opinion about big labor than about illegal immigration. And that’s how it usualy goes. AP reports how someone else deals with the issue of illegal immigration.
jaime on February 26, 2008 at 4:25 PM
Let me also say this, okay?
I highly suggest all interested parties, who are concerned about this topic, go check out this Blog. It’s a great place for that subject, they also do a Blog Burst. Which I carry on my Blog, every week. I think Powers at be here, should carry it.

Ah. You are implying the need for him to write an editorial, instead of gleaning his views from the news posts. I follow. I think his position is clear enough, written in posts and comment threads since this issue has been publicized. I will not pretend to speak for him aside from one observation: to me it has appeared his view is one opposed to illegal immigration as an issue of national security, as it can serve as a window for terrorism on our soil.

1) McCain must name Juan Hernandez for VP.

Just want to let Gerry Rivera know that I’m not a immigrant, I’m a native american! I was born here and have always been an american and will always be an american. My mothers ancestors did come over from Holland (legally) and my fathers family has been in this country since before Columbus (Cherokee). Wasn’t Gerry thrown out of Iraq for revealing where his unit was while he was embedded with them. What an idiot! Of course he is on B.O.’s show so that explains it.

Here we have one of those concerned citizens, concerned only with enforcing our nation’s laws, citing the anti-semitic smear myth that Geraldo Rivera is a secret jew, which originated back in the 80’s when he applied his signature tabloid style to making neo-nazis look foolish.
Hiney Von Pewps on February 26, 2008 at 5:03 PM
You never did find that mythical quote in which McCain earned the wrath of not-at-all-racist opponents of a rational border enforcement policy by calling them “racist”.
Hiney Von Pewps on February 26, 2008 at 5:06 PM
I answered that here. Apparently, hate-filled liberals have trouble reading, too.
jaime on February 26, 2008 at 5:14 PM
Why don’t we just all agree that Geraldo’s right…we’re all hate mongers and bigots. Now that we got that straight, let the deportations begin.
If Geraldo and Juan want to help illegal aliens, they both should shut up.
orlandocajun on February 26, 2008 at 5:16 PM
Why is Geraldo so up in arms about alleged discrimination against Hispanics? His father was Puerto Rican, which doesn’t mean he wasn’t himself white, and his mother was Jewish. So Geraldo is only half Hispanic. His kids are only 1/4 Hispanic yet I recall him making a comment on O’Reilley about his kids being brown. What BS.
DerKrieger on February 26, 2008 at 5:17 PM
Geraldo, why not let your kids choose what language that they want to learn?
What if they want to learn German or French?
BTW, I think that Geraldo is correct on some points and in err on others..
Border Security and new VISA and verification systems should be the first priority(9/11 should remind us that the VISA’s need to be addressed), NOT the other debate.. that comes later, after we have verified that the borders are at least 90% of our current levels.

The Southern Poverty Law Center is in the business of raising money these days. They have historical ties that are absolutely invaluable to American History, but in the last 20 years they have accumulated an endowment that makes some universities jealous. We’re talking about 150 million US dollars controlled by the SPLC while they continue to raise upwards of 10 million dollars per year.
They rate very low on most charts published by organizations that observe philanthropy in the United States.
gabriel sutherland on February 26, 2008 at 5:56 PM
Gerald (his real name) is either a moron, a racist or both. He claims that crime committed by illegals is of a rate no higher than the general population and that the illegals are scapegoated because of race. Even if the yarn about the rate being less than the general pop. is true (which I doubt–after all, they broke US laws to get in to the US), the point is that on a pure volume basis, they are committing more crimes than any new immigrant group, legal or illegal in US history. Every day illegals plow “women and children” (the holy grail of libspeak demagoguery) into the ground on the highways or on the streets. Every day illegals shoot at cops and border agents, only to have peckerwoods like Gerald champion their cause on the grounds of race. In other words, no matter what the scale or volume of their crimes, according to Gerald, they cannot be held any more responsible as a group because they always have their race to to shield them. Sounds racist to me. Hey, why don’t we just go ahead and codify a certain amount of quota crimes into the books. This way we can put the outrage on the shelf when illegals actually qualify for free passes according to law.
Gerald is right on one thing when it comes to illegals having parity with legals: it sure does cost just as much to house and feed and pay court costs for an illegal criminal as it does a legal criminal. The GAO has tallied up the numbers, and the evenhanded audit shows that illegals are a net drain on the resources of society. Why? Because they don’t pay taxes, they suck freebies from hospitals, clinics, and schools. They suck resources from law enforcement, and some even bring bagfulls of drugs over, which doesn’t exactly make society more productive. READ the GAO report, Gerald. Read the CIS reports. Or are they racist, too?
Western_Civ on February 26, 2008 at 5:56 PM
Geraldo does what a lot of liberals do to try to blunt a reasoned argument. It’s called “jamming”. They will bring up silly points and statistics that don’t mean anything to try and bolster their point.
My grandparents came through Ellis Island in the early 1900’s and they didn’t immediately begin demanding that they receive all rights of a citizen. And there weren’t all the organizations we have today available to help them get all they can get free from the government. Er, excuse me. The tax paying ,hardworking, American people.

I’m sure he won’t mind….
CrazyFool on February 26, 2008 at 6:58 PM
Geraldo’s comparisons are sooooo lame. We never have, in the history of this country, freely let anybody into this country like we do with illegals from Mexico or like Geraldo claims we did with the Irish or Italians. What planet is Geraldo living on?
I don’t care if we had 12 millions Canadians flowing into our northern borders. It would be just as wrong and I would feel the exact same way! Geraldo’s attempt to label anyone who want borders enforced as racist is either plainly ignorant (or moronic) or he is perpetrating the biggest “red herring” (or smoke screen), on a legitimate issue like illegal immigration, to push his own agenda.
I’m leaning toward the latter because I can’t believe he is that stupid to actually believe the things he says.

Laura is absolutely right for taking Geraldo on.
She holds her own with pretty well too.
I personally would love to see her not let Rivera go more than about 4-5 words before shutting him down and holding him accountable, he’s just that toxic and that much of a mouth.
B.O. should too, don’t let him get anywhere before giving him a good slap in the verbiage.
He filibusters starting with the first word.

If only open borders people were truly open borders. A Chinese student who comes to this country legally to pursue a Ph.D., a couple of post-docs and a faculty job at a Research 1 University easily spends up to 15 years to get a green card. How come nobody says: let’s be more welcoming to the Chinese.
This is nothing but pandering to the Latino community. If you would like more immigrants, increase the number of visas issued by U.S. embassies. Yes, including in Mexico. Nobody’s talking about that.
It’s like A Day Without immigrants. Really? I could have sworn I was at work.
freevillage on February 26, 2008 at 7:47 PM
I wish Laura would have shut him down instead of letting him monologue his way through the interview. He never answered a direct question, but was allowed to get away with this. Dissembling, disingenuous, dishonest dirtbags like Geraldo can’t be allowed to filibuster, they have to be challenged and shown to be the total liars they are.
Insomniac on February 26, 2008 at 8:30 PM
Geraldo the Spitter is the epitome of the MSM. He is such a moron. When facts fail in supporting his arguments, he just makes up new ones.
And since Laura mopped the floor with him in this interview, it won’t be long before he proclaims her his arch nemesis and expresses his desire to spit on her as well.
Zorro on February 26, 2008 at 8:32 PM
They’ve also left their mission behind hand have moved on to absurdities such as listing, for instance, the American Enterprise Institute.
Still, the point is that it doesn’t take an aging and flimsy hate-fear pinping outfit like the SPLC to recognize that, while not all border enforcement advocates are white nationalist thugs, all white nationalist thugs are border enforcement advocates.
