Video: Time for another distortion of McCain’s “100 years in Iraq” comment

I’m glad this dropped on a day when the conservative blogosphere is busy sneering at Hillary for her cheap shot at Obama, just to highlight the contrast between the sides. As McCain has explained numerous times now, the “100 years” comment isn’t a call for another century of hot war; it’s a projection of a token presence in a stable country along the lines of our “occupation” of Okinawa, one that certainly wouldn’t require the trillions of dollars being disingenuously tossed around here. The left knows a good talking point when it sees it, though — and so does Maverick, who’s decided to run away from what he said as fast as his feet will carry him. Let me know when the left makes its stand about getting U.S. troops out of Germany and I’ll start caring about nonsense like this.
Update: Oh, and as for the vaguely derisive line about McCain’s commitment to the Iraqi people, that’s a fine way of framing the debate going forward. No more crap about threats of withdrawal constituting “tough love” to get Iraqis to compromise. If the left wants out, be plain about it: Say that we have no commitment to Iraq or that we’re perfectly happy to break it if we do, and to hell with whatever happens next. Straight talk, n’est-ce pas?

Whoa…they’re going right for the “1,000″ year jugular. I’m surprised they didn’t somehow manage to quote the Lancet Study numbers of Iraqi civilian deaths.

Thank you for your service, Mam, but using it for political gain towards those who would sell us out, just wiped the slate clean.
Nobody is giving you free or affordable health care, no matter who gets elected including Stalin, Castro or Hussein Obama.
Shilling for socialists only to have people screwed.

Do they expect McCain to give her baby a thousand years of health care ? Who is he Methusula ?
William Amos on February 25, 2008 at 3:03 PM
How dumb was McCain for making that ‘100 years’ comment. Right now he could have been hammering Obama and Clinton for not supporting surge, but instead he’s having to take the time to constantly defend this one line over and over.

What an unattractive spokeswoman for motherhood.
Hey, it’s been 110 years in Gitmo. LOL if McCain was smart he’d play that card and say he’s starting the process of bringing the boys home….LOL
Really, housing the inmates in a special part of Leavenworth has really started to appeal to me. The area around Leavenworth is beautiful and is a nice place for a military family to be stationed. The Red Cross and attorney types would have to just drive themselves to NE Kansas to do their “inspections,” which I’m gonna guess would mean there would be far fewer of them. I grew up in the area, and one of my best college friends was a farm boy who grew up right outside Leavenworth. They could let one terrorist a quarter “escape” to give the guys something to do.
(OK, kidding on that last part, kinda).

Notice they didn’t drag out some drooling shell-shocked glassy-eyed guy who is minus a limb or two in some vets hospital somewhere, but instead present this articulate, rather attractive gal, complete with baby in tow, talking from the comfort of her own home about the incredibly stupid boneheaded comment McPain made and has been trying to backtrack from since? Call it what you want, but it got its message across loud and clear.

Well, I wish he wasn’t running from what he said. Democrats will have a field day with the phrase, but like McCain said, we’ve had troops in Korea since the Korean War, 50+ years ago. And they have protected and prevented and stable, prosperous and friendly South Korea from an insane and bankrupt regime in the North. We’ve had troops in many places since World War 2, which is now 60+ years ago. To characterize his comment as “100 years of war” is a pitiful tactic, I hope people see through it.
mattyj86 on February 25, 2008 at 3:08 PM
And I’m gonna go out on a limb here….Obama’s appeasement strategy almost certainly guarantees that my 11 year old son and his friends will have to fight to clean up the socialist poo-bird’s mess if he gets elected.
My husband is already active duty, trained, and ready to go. Let’s finish this crap now rather than later.

Rose, sincere thanks for your service. I believe the American people owe ya roses and certainly the best health care possible for all you and your fellow vets do for America.
That said, I believe if we retreat and defeat from Baghdad - innocent people will die.
If we do so from Seoul and/or Kabul and/or Okinawa - that is a guarantee.
If we did so from West Berlin between say 1945 and 1989 - a whole lot of innocent people would have starved to death or had to go to the German “Democratic” Republic.
Finally, I submit to our liberal heroine that I have read Imperial Grunts and Hog Pilots, Blue Water Grunts by Robert Kaplan. I would be happy to send you or your organization one copy of both via Amazon.com. My understanding from those books - and other sources - is that American soldiers do a lot of humanitarian work as well that helps reduce the proclivity of violence. As liberal former British PM Tony Blair would say: You can’t just fight crime, you also have to fight the causes of crime. That’s why we have to have a comprehensive security presence in Iraq - not just special forces shooting up al Qaeda (as they should with my eardrum-shattering cheering).
Over to you, Rose. All the best to you and your family.

Dumb Democrats. We won’t be here in 1,000 years, remember? The Goreacle says the ice caps will melt and drown us all long before then! So is it the Iraq War that will end American civilization, or is it incandescent bulbs and SUVs?
Another point: Even if we somehow manage to survive the Global Warming Crisis (TM), a thousand years of hot fighting in the Middle East would still cost a tiny fraction of how much a thousand years of universal health care would cost. Get a clue, Dems! Just like Huckabee, you’re clearly not “math people.”

With Obama in the White House there will a lot more than socialist poo-birds mess to clean up. It will be open season on American interests everywhere and terrorists will not hesitate to attack the US right here. They smell fear and weakness is the trigger. Remember, Bin Laden openly told everyone that the United States refusal to stand up and fight back after the attacks in the 90’s was the reason they launched the 9/11 attacks. They are just waiting for the next appeaser in the White House and Obama couldn’t possibly be more to their liking.
It isn’t scare tactis or fear mongering….it is pure reality based on the very words and actions of those who want this country destroyed and us dead!

I have zero love for John RINO McCain, and he’ll never get my vote in 1,000 years. I won’t be voting Republican for POTUS in the ‘08 election unless McCain drops out, or drops dead. Either would be just fine by me. Fear not though, the Defeatocrats won’t be getting my vote either.
But, a spade is a spade. VoteVets has always been a shill for liberal special interest, and always will be nothing more. More of the same ol’ same ol’ Olbermannesque tactics of lies and omission with bone deep virtuosity. So chunky you could eat it with a fork, but the liberal socialist intellectually defunct will use a spoon so they can get every drop.

Re: VoteVets.org
You will think this comment ‘off topic’, but stick with it. Following a long a circuitous route, it leads back to your comment. I’m sure the crew at HotAir have already traversed a good portion of it.
It stated with a clip on Fox news about an ‘eco terrorist’ trial in Tacoma, which led to earthfirst.org, then to George Soros and Open Society Institute. With helpful explanations from discoverthenetworks.org and its liberal varient sourcewatch.org.
It was never ending, a bottomless rabbit hole, an adventure where I was trapped in ‘a maze of twisty passages, all alike’. I started keeping a Google notebook, yet I’ve barely scratched the surface; seven billion dollars (US) will buy you a lot of propaganda, well staffed with an army of zealots.
The point was, I ‘knew’ it existed, but had no grasp of the scope. VoteVets.org is a pimple, a mosquito bite on the back of a very large animal.
Short hand for all of the above is ‘George Soros’.
I’d put in links to all the above, but the spam filter would dump the comment.

“The Democrats, God bless ‘em, are about to hand us the prototypical liberal boogeyman as their nominee.”A week from tomorrow, Texas will either prolong the bloody battle for the Democratic nomination or give the nomination to a self-admitted former cokehead. Either way, we should thank Texas.
Let’s presume, if we will, that Texas goes for Barack Hussein Obama, a name that is not quite poll tested and mother approved. That presumption is not a safe one because even now the forces of Clinton are going into hispanic communities and churches to remind them that hispanics would be minority number one in a Clinton administration and minority number three in an Obama administration, behind blacks and everybody else. With thirty percent of the voting strength in the Texas Democratic Primary, Hispanics could help Hillary pull it off.
In any event, I presume Obama will win. And we should delight in his victory. Hillary has been too timid to throw a punch. We will not be.
We will remind people that Obama admitted using cocaine. While the left loves to accuse George Bush of doing the same, one of these two men wrote a book and admitted he did so. And that man’s name is not Bush.
We will point out that when Obama was in the Illinois Senate he voted to allow porn shops to open within 1,000 feet of churches and elementary schools.
Likewise, Obama voted against trying high school students as adults if they committed gun crimes on school grounds — I’m sure the folks in Colorado will love that vote.
Obama says he only wants gun owners to be able to use their guns for sport and he has a record to prove it. Obama supported allowing criminals to sue their victims if their victims shot them.
Crucially, for those pro-life voters who right now seem to be fawning over Obama, we’ll remind them that he is to the left of Hillary on abortion — going so far as to oppose the Born Alive Infant Protection Act.
For years the Democrats have tried to get away from the anti-gun, big government, high tax, abortion on demand liberal label. They’ve gone so far as to rebrand themselves progressive. Obama champions the failed schemes of the last one hundred years, repeatedly rejected by the voters, to fix what he claims are the failed policies of the last eight years. The Democrats, God bless ‘em, are about to hand us the prototypical liberal boogeyman as their nominee.
By the time it’s all over, the only defense Obama is going to have is to resort to the standard liberal playbook and scream racism when anyone dares point out his voting record. And the public we have not heard from year, the public that swings elections but generally does not engage in primaries, are going to come running to John McCain begging him to save the nation from the liberal anti-gun former cokehead whose feminist wife hates America.
America has rejected liberalism. Obama thinks he can repackage it in new rhetoric and move it to the left of Hillary. He cannot. I relish the fight against the man who has no problem with porn shops across the street from elementary schools and terrorist leaders in the White House. That’ll go over real well.
The only thing better than an Obama candidacy is a Hillary one after a bloody primary fight. As a result, God bless Texas.

According to those who claim that the island of Thera is Plato’s Atlantis, the Greek traveller Solon learned of Atlantis in Egypt, but mistranslated the heiroglyph for “100″ as “1000″. So call it solonic mathematics.
Speaking of the French, they and the English fought the 100 Years War, where English troops were on French soil for 100 years. Believe it or not, there was a time when the French would actually fight, instead of surrender.

She has been associated with that anti-war group for awhile. She was or is a Captain in the National Guard for eight years and served 12 months in Iraq. If she served in Iraq it was probably in a “non combat role”, although, as my son says, everyone there is in combat.
She is a Hillary Clinton supporter:
The campaign also released a new minute video on its Web site of veterans and family members of veterans who support Clinton. “I served my country for almost nine years now, and I plan on doing so, you know, for as long as I can in the future,” said Rose Forrest, an Iraq War veteran. “That being said like any good soldier, you know, I train for war, but I pray for peace. And I think Hillary Clinton will bring us peace.” The video can be viewed at: http://www.hillaryclinton.com/video/66.aspx .

That woman is not only a leftist shill . . . she’s a certified idiot.
Here’s what McCain said at a town hall meting when addressing how long the U.S. should stay in Iraq: “Maybe 100,” McCain replied. “As long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed, it’s fine with me and I hope it would be fine with you if we maintain a presence in a very volatile part of the world where al Qaeda is training, recruiting, equipping and motivating people every single day.”
Even those of marginal intellect understand the context of his remark. We’ve maintained stability and peace by remaining in Europe for over 60 years and in Korea for over 50 years. It was precisely this kind of presence he was referring to and the comments of this woman are beyond moronic. And of course, no liberal diatribe would be complete without the call for socialized medicine.

BTW — The chances of this Nation actually being here in 100 years are far greater if we get McCain and not the Messiah or Hildebeest.

Google is your friend, by plonking her name into the annoying search engine, you could learn that she was attending Penn State from 1999 to 2001 to get her journalism degreee, while a member of RotC. From 2002 to 2006 she was attending University of Baltimore, where she obtained a Jurist Doctorate… unless of course there is more than one Rose who is connected to VoteVets

Let me know when Germany and Iraq are anything alike and I’ll see your point.

I guess it boils down to your definition of “hyperbole.”

HEALTHCARE
HEALTHCARE
HEALTHCARE
HEALTHCARE
HEALTHCARE
HEALTHCARE
HEALTHCARE
Enough on HEALTHCARE!
http://votevets.org/index_html is just another PAC for the Dems to spit out their rhetoric.
When I serverd in the Army I had HEALTHCARE
My first job out of the Army I had HEALTHCARE I paid for it
The job I have now I have HEALTHCARE I pay for it.
Its not cheap but neither is the daycare my son requires 10K last yr alone guess what I PAY for it.
Kids are not cheap and when I need medical care I want the BEST and that is what I pay for. I dont want some watered down healthcare system that covers everyone just so we can say everyone has healthcare.

Here is what she did in Iraq:
Jan 2005-July 2006: 2/28th BCT, Brigade Adjutant and Mortuary Affairs Officer deployed to Ramadi Iraq : Oversee recovery of fallen personnel, work with Iraqi Security Forces as liaison in areas of responsibility, and assist and advise combat commanders with interacting with the female Iraqi populace.

I sincerely hope that the Democrats run this ludicrous and demagogical talking point every day until the election. I hope they make it the very center of their campaign - that the US should withdraw from its strategic commitments around the world - and that the entire election turns on the US role in the world.
I think McCain would win a security-focused election, but, if a well-informed electorate decides that the US should enter a long period of decline, become just another country in a multi-polar world, let the world police itself and let the dead bury the dead, then we should start building Fortress America right now, and prepare for 100 years of severely reduced consumption and escalating xenophobia while waiting for the real “blowback” finally to breach our borders. Until then, the carnage ought to make a great show on HDTV.
