Coming soon to a John McCain campaign commercial near you. Her point here is entirely fair, incidentally; near as I can tell, Obama’s master plan for uprooting the special interest kudzu in D.C. is to unleash his personal awesomeness and watch it wither in submission, like one of those fainting women at his rallies. Can’t wait. As for our gal, between this and yesterday’s “shame on you” finger-wag, I’m thinking that little passion play at the end of the debate last week about how everything’s going to be okay wasn’t so much a farewell as her way of telling America not to fret too much about Bambi when she takes off the gloves and starts swinging. He’ll be juuuuust fine. Tuesday night, baby. Bare knuckle.
I keep looking for that clip of Ed Harris trying to revive Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio near the end of “The Abyss” but I can’t find it on YouTube. Anyone know if it’s online? “Fight! Fiiiiight!”
Update: Heh. Fiiiiiiiight!
Update: Oh, the nutroots howling that’ll greet this tomorrow. By leftist lights, any criticism of a liberal from the right intimating that he’s a lightweight on matters of war is “fearmongering.” They expect it from the GOP; from Hillary, they’ll consider it unforgivable.
On the Barack Obama Phenomenon
I think that there is a certain phenomenon associated with this candidacy, and I am really struck by that because it is very much about him and his personality and his presentation. And that’s perfectly legitimate in politics, or any other walk of life, but I think it dangers or oversimplifies the complexity of the problems we face, the challenges of navigating our country through some difficult uncharted waters. We are a nation at war. That seems to be forgotten.

This is going to start getting good now. It’s going to take on a WWF-mentality. Hopefully Hill starts bringing folding chairs to the debates. With all the sycophants swooning over Obama, it’s excellent seeing a Dem turn on one of it’s own.

She already tried the cozy agreeable way and that failed so she is falling back on shear attack.

That was awesome.
I think Hillary seriously regrets her current party affiliation right now.

I’ve never seen a video more appropriate. Maybe you should send it to the campaign! It may be ust what she needs!
Pam on February 24, 2008 at 8:56 PM
So reminiscent of the last two weeks of the ‘92 general election. Next, Hillary will call the media ‘bozos’ for not covering Obama seriously.
This time, however, we’re a loooong way from November.
thirtypundit on February 24, 2008 at 9:04 PM
First, she “attacked” the Messiah (really she was just defending herself against his attack). Now she’s mocking him. The MSM is really going to let her have it now!

“Even my cat Socks knows more about foreign policy than that bozo!”

She’s right, you won’t just wave a magic wand and make the special interests disappear. I say we let her wave Bill around like flypaper.
Dusty on February 24, 2008 at 9:06 PM
Yeah, you’re right. I think she is aiming this at Texans… seems like this would play well there. It’s a reality-based community.
“We are a nation at war.” I love it. It’s disingenuous as heck coming from her, but necessary.

Damn…..Limerick finally got one right! She went right. Guess that means no concession. She knows the kooks will be jumping outta the weeds now. This just became a civil war.

Is she taking my advice and moving to the right of Obama?
Her point is a very valid point, though. I wish McCain would do this, too.
SouthernGent on February 24, 2008 at 9:09 PM
Yep she took it SG! It forces the gentleman into the arms of the CodePinkos and Murthas. Now will she maintain the attack? I sure as hell hope so.

Didn’t Obama say that we were at war at the last debate?
Vizzini on February 24, 2008 at 9:12 PM
Yeah, maybe it’s nice to have Shrillary talk like a conservative but can one really trust anything she says? You know she will say anything if it will help her politically.
That said, I think and feel that Obama is an abomination that can’t be allowed to assume the presidency.
docdave on February 24, 2008 at 9:14 PM
The republicans were smart enough (at least ~90% were) to not vote for their unqualified candidate. Democrats weren’t so unfortunate. It’ll be unfortunate for the country after january too.
lorien1973 on February 24, 2008 at 9:15 PM
Hilary finally learned. Obama is like Mohammed Ali he is a boxer not a slugger and he does his rope a dope strategy to trick you.
But a slugger can beat a boxer if he tangles up wiht him and prevents clinches and hits him hard over and over again.
William Amos on February 24, 2008 at 9:16 PM
No matter what she says, her delivery is still cringeworthy. It is unbearable to listen to her, even when she has a point, while it is pleasing to listen to the O and his mellifluous tones. Guess who wins the nomination.

On the end of “The Abyss”, Bill would never fight like that for Hillary, never.
On Hillary, I’m not writing her off yet, at least not until March the 5th. One, because I want her to win the nomination, and two, these are the Clintons.
On the war, she happens to be right. She’s also a hypocrite and swings left, or right, as she needs the topic, for whichever audience.

Political Fantasy 2008:
McCain’t picks Romney for veep.
Clinton takes out Obama before the convention.
McCain’t has to quit-health, scandal, I don’t care what-he has to quit, and Romney becomes the Republican candidate.

Romney wins in a 50 state landslide. It’s my fantasy, but wouldn’t it be great?

John McCain is a friend of mine. I deeply admire his service to our country. He’s a good man with the wrong ideas about what needs to be done in Iraq and elsewhere with the economy, with health care.
DannoJyd on February 24, 2008 at 9:39 PM
Better for Obama to be seasoned with this now, for when the GOP and McCain try to use the same attack line against Obama, it will have already played out like a torturous repeat recording. If this line is the only thing that Hillary (and McCain and the GOP) now have against Obama, it’s pretty thin indeed. Folks, prepare yourself for President Obama.

She should have one of her flack’s stand up at an Obama rally and ask:
“Senator Obama, did you ever pledge the Shahada as a boy in Indonesia?”
Just the look on his face, before the torrent of soothing and distracting b.s. was spewed, would be worth the price of admission.
(99% of the Messiah’s audience would have no idea what this question implied…”Sha-nana?”… but the meaning would seep out by the next news cycle.)

Well I’ll tell you the little thought that just struck me…
Careful what you wish for.
What Hillary said there, it needed saying. And it’s been needing saying for a long time. But go on, take a little tour along the Nutroad. They’re having kittens over her besmirching the name of The Chosen One. Some of them are even speculating she may have lost her mind.
But then they weren’t going to vote for her anyway. Reagan Democrats in Ohio, however…and Hispanics in the Rio Grande Valley, them I can see lifting their heads up out of the Obamafog and going, “Wait a minute…”
And if that happens, and if she dispatches Obama, bye, bye, Maverick.
I’ve said all along Obama’s easier to beat than her.
Careful what you wish for.

Black women are not buying Hillay’s Scarlett O’Hara act, not even the “we are at war” one. They have different ‘wars’ in mind.
Unbearable to listen to either, for different reasons. Mellifluous nothing, is still nothing.
MB4 is right - most Americans are out shopping. They’re also uninformed and naive in serious matters, until it’ll be too late.
I like this mocking, the more I reflect - perfect ads for later. The most ironic part is how Hillary and Barak will kiss and make up later, no matter who makes it.

McCain is going to be knocked out in a landslide this fall if Barack Obama is the Democratic nominee that will make the Bob Dole loss in 1996 look like a cliffhanger. If you have any doubt just look at the primary turnout for Democrats so far. No amount of conservative blogging and conservative talk radio is going to change what will happen this fall.
And on this latest Hillary meltdown from Rhode Island, it may seem funny to conservatives, but in the liberal / leftist realm of politics it’s being taken much differently. They are viewing it as the end of Hillary’s campaign. They are probably right.
What did President Bush get in total votes for the 2004 general election, like 63 million votes? I predict Obama gets over 70+ million just based on what is happening so far in the primaries / caucuses.

In the general election many people will see that Obama has nothing to say, but in the primaries Hillary is a horrible candidate with a horrible speaking voice and Obama is going to win the nomination. She might get a few deaf old ladies to vote for her, or some women who sound like her and don’t see her as a Harridan, but that’s about it

These are two very good points.
I think that Dim primary turnout is more than half again Rep primary turn out. If someone turns out for a primary they are a good bet to turn out for the general. If someone does not turn out for their primary, well then, they are a good bet not to turn out for the general.
On the second point - conservative blogging and conservative talk radio’s influence on voting. They both tried to stop Juan Plantation McShamnesty from getting the Rep nomination. How is that working out?
MB4 on February 24, 2008 at 10:31 PM
Obama’s received an absolutely fawning positive press for 6 months, if not longer. And yet in national polls, he and McCain in head-to-head matchups are about tied.
Yep, it’s February and miles to go before we sleep.
No way will this be a landslide. It’ll be determined that last week or two of the campaign, barring something huge.

Update - More on Louis Farrakhan:
Buy Danish on February 24, 2008 at 10:36 PM
BS. Democrats have turned out by an average of 3:2 over Republicans since 1972 in primaries. In 1988, Democrat primary turnout was nearly double Republican. Dukakis had his clock cleaned.
Even in a year like this one, with explosive interest and a very hotly contested, heavily financed race on the Democrat side, total primary turnout will be no more than fraction of the general election turnout. The primary and general elections feature virtually two different electorates.
Meanwhile, national polls show a highly competitive race - and state by state analysis say the same thing, arguably with an advantage for McCain, even at this point in the race.
Sour grapes defeatism is useless and tiresome. You should get over it.
CK MacLeod on February 24, 2008 at 10:38 PM
PS - the ‘96 election was the only election since ‘72 in which Republican primary turnout greatly exceeded Democrat primary turnout. The obvious explanation was that the Democrats put up an incumbent in a virtually uncontested nomination, another major difference between ‘08 and ‘96.
CK MacLeod on February 24, 2008 at 10:43 PM
When Hillary said, we are going to be fine, everything is going to be ok, I thought it odd; was she giving up?
Then I had that little frisson that goes with the question that occurs after a major event, ‘What did she know, and when did she know it?’
When she said, more or less, that her little problem was going to be taken care of, what did she mean by it?
So I’m asking, if Obama is not an authorized George Soros agent, if instead, Obama is a free lance opportunist, what does the Soros mob, and the Clinton family have planned for the junior senator from Illinois?
By almost all published accounts, it appeared that Soros had cut Hillary lose, and that she had accepted her imminent defeat. The rest of the campaign would be pro forma with, perhaps, some sleight of hand at the convention.
Guess we’ll find out soon enough.
