posted at 7:40 pm on February 22, 2008 by Allahpundit

Via Ace, there may be a blue-state conservative/red-state conservative divide on whether this one’s funny. The New Yorker says: yes. Click the image to watch.

An instant classic.

I didn’t think that would be funny, but I was curious…Hilarious!

jgapinoy on February 22, 2008 at 7:50 PM

Blue-state conservative!

Allahpundit on February 22, 2008 at 7:50 PM

He must be a McCainocrat.

jgapinoy on February 22, 2008 at 7:56 PM

I live near San Francisco, and thus found this jaw-dropping … but in a good way! It’s true they don’t do high-fives. They do them lower.

laelaps on February 22, 2008 at 7:56 PM

I’m a redneck-state conservative. Definitely not funny. Oh, and the New Yorker sux, except for the cartoons, of course.

RedWinged Blackbird on February 22, 2008 at 7:57 PM

Haha. I wish more politicians would suck it up and go on his show. It might give Mike Huckabee a break from his weekly visits.

Yoosaion on February 22, 2008 at 8:00 PM

Your pretty lost if you didn’t get a laugh somewhere along the line.

Why would anyone (who takes themselves seriously

) do an interview with Colbert?

BL@KBIRD on February 22, 2008 at 8:01 PM

Nurture, not nature…but funny. I’ve never watched Colbert before.

Connie on February 22, 2008 at 8:01 PM

Red State funny. (Disclaimer…I’m in the floral business).

Limerick on February 22, 2008 at 8:01 PM

I’m a red-state Conservative and I thought it was laugh-out-loud hilarious!

I’m sure Colbert is either going to have to apologize or get fired for that though.

Baraka on February 22, 2008 at 8:01 PM

Gay Callous

Hee-hee.

Tzetzes on February 22, 2008 at 8:02 PM

I didn’t think that would be funny, but I was curious…Hilarious!

jgapinoy on February 22, 2008 at 7:50 PM

It all starts with curiosity, bro…

Tzetzes on February 22, 2008 at 8:02 PM

The best of Stephen Colbert is still… Stephen Colbert.

calbear on February 22, 2008 at 8:03 PM

I thought it was funny… from a purple state like Florida.

Lehosh on February 22, 2008 at 8:06 PM

Lehosh on February 22, 2008 at 8:06 PM

Ditto, also from Florida.

amerpundit on February 22, 2008 at 8:06 PM

Pennsylvania here. One light chuckle at the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell bit.

MarkoMancuso on February 22, 2008 at 8:09 PM

Part 1 was much funnier, part 2 was a bomb.

Did you guys see Part 1?

AprilOrit on February 22, 2008 at 8:10 PM

Here is the Comedy central Link.

AprilOrit on February 22, 2008 at 8:12 PM

The line about preventing a gay guy from breaking in during the night and gay marrying him and that he’s gay married and marriage is forever is really hilarious.

AprilOrit on February 22, 2008 at 8:18 PM

7 out of 10 funny. 3 points deducted cause he coulda gone a little bit farther with it. I think they decided that the “What makes you go schwing?” line was as far as they’ll go. By the way, here’s an awesome “schwing” vid from the second movie. I live in a Purple State, Dems at state and local level and about 55% to Bush in ’04. But, I don’t have much of an opinion on gay marriage (let the states sort it out) and I’d be interested to know if somebody who supports the marriage ammendment thought it was funny.

malan89 on February 22, 2008 at 8:19 PM

The New Yorker says: yes. Click the image to watch.

So does the Texan. The look the guy gave after “vagina” was priceless!

conservnut on February 22, 2008 at 8:26 PM

malan89 on February 22, 2008 at 8:19 PM

Wow. I can’t spell. That would be “amendment”, not “ammendment”.

malan89 on February 22, 2008 at 8:26 PM

The look the guy gave after “vagina” was priceless!

Like a third grader on the school yard. “Ewww!”

malan89 on February 22, 2008 at 8:27 PM

Schawing!

Kini on February 22, 2008 at 8:29 PM

Smooth, Soft.. Mmmmm…

Chakra Hammer on February 22, 2008 at 8:33 PM

Blue-state conservative!

Allahpundit on February 22, 2008 at 7:50 PM

Ditto. I laughed. Not once, but twice.

JayHaw Phrenzie on February 22, 2008 at 8:42 PM

Red-state North Carolina gay here…3 out of 5 stars from me. I make that same face when confronted with a vagina, too!

SouthernGent on February 22, 2008 at 8:46 PM

I am a conservative Catholic from REAL America (otherwise known as Texas) and I was on the floor rolling! I have never watched Colbert before so I had no idea what to expect but I thought I was going to split something. I don’t think the Human Rights guy really knew how to react (his “vagina face” was priceless) but he was a pretty good sport.

inmypajamas on February 22, 2008 at 8:51 PM

soft , smell nice and have vaginas

is a lot more appealing than

greasy hair , body odor and mood swings

Colbert is a poet defining women compared to science.

BL@KBIRD on February 22, 2008 at 8:51 PM

Dude. That’s the funniest schtick that I’ve seen him do. If he’s really shrewd, he’ll realize that yes, there is much to laugh about on the Left. There is a large potential audience waiting for Colbert and Stewart to realize that.

INFDL on February 22, 2008 at 8:56 PM

I make that same face when confronted with a vagina, too!

SouthernGent on February 22, 2008 at 8:46 PM

I make that face when confronted with a Democrat. Which, oddly enough is a synonym for Vagina.

JayHaw Phrenzie on February 22, 2008 at 8:56 PM

The Part1 video was incredibly hilarious.

Colbert:
“We have marriage you guys have something else..manriage or something.”

TDBURN on February 22, 2008 at 8:57 PM

Hilarious. I say that as a Blue Stater who moved South.

And Joe Solmonese was a great sport.

Buy Danish on February 22, 2008 at 9:00 PM

As a conservative who has no problem with gay marriage or gay Rights in general, I thought this was hilarious.

Yakko77 on February 22, 2008 at 9:02 PM

So,the real problem is what Hanio Jane
said a week a go,that word in particular,
the centre of the America so to speak!

Or,is it the High Fives that will save them
all,like who knew!(Just Kidding!)

canopfor on February 22, 2008 at 9:04 PM

I am NO Stephen Colbert fan but that one cracked me up.

Texyank on February 22, 2008 at 9:10 PM

Colbert:

TDBURN on February 22, 2008 at 8:57 PM

It is by far the funniest I have seen from Stephen Colbert. The look on Joe Solmonese’s face when Stphen what if’s about a gay guy breaking in during the night is priceless.

Colbert is very funny, I have friends who get jacked up about him, want to censor him, I mean he’s funny.

For my health situation I would rather laugh then get all bent out of shape and pc about his humor.

AprilOrit on February 22, 2008 at 9:15 PM

Texyank on February 22, 2008 at 9:10 PM

Yep, credit where credit is due. That one rolled me. Too bad it’s like 1 in 50 where he actually does something I think is funny.

AUINSC on February 22, 2008 at 9:19 PM

Part 1: “Appletini”

I literally snorted on that one. Do y’all know how many gays drink those? LMAO!

SouthernGent on February 22, 2008 at 9:19 PM

Chuck Nobblet, er, Steve Colbert is consistently the funniest guy on tv.
Money line. “They have more options, lets put it that way.”

VolMagic on February 22, 2008 at 9:34 PM

AUINSC on February 22, 2008 at 9:19 PM

What’s wild is that when he sits down with these people they do like a whole hour and then they edit it with the funniest parts.

AprilOrit on February 22, 2008 at 9:36 PM

Well and the other thing is that Bill O’Reilly loves the fact that Colbert is doing him.

Bill is very flattered apparently.

AprilOrit on February 22, 2008 at 9:37 PM

C’mon, give the guy a break. He can’t help it that he’s gay. He has the gay gene. It goes back to when two gay cavemen who coincidently had the first gay genes, got together, had a family, and passed the gene on to their…

Oh, on second thought…

stonemeister on February 22, 2008 at 9:54 PM

As both a gay man and a conservative, I thought it was pretty funny. And though I rarely agree with HRC, Joe did get the face right vis-à-vis the vagina — not that there’s anything wrong with that

paul006 on February 22, 2008 at 9:55 PM

Hahahaha. Purple Virginia state here and I thought it was pretty damn funny.

krabbas on February 22, 2008 at 10:31 PM

I have never found Colbert funny at all.

Warner Todd Huston on February 22, 2008 at 11:21 PM

I sure am glad the writers strike is over.

labrat on February 23, 2008 at 12:57 AM

I have never found Colbert funny at all.

Warner Todd Huston on February 22, 2008 at 11:21 PM

Most of us didn’t find the Half Hour News Show funny at first, but it grew on me, I was laughing at Laura Ingraham playing a doctor discussing Clinton syndrome etc.

Bring on the laughter and the comedy to lighten up our lives, especially political.

AprilOrit on February 23, 2008 at 1:48 AM

I give it 2 thumbs up! I don’t watch Colbert often, but what I’ve seen I think is hilarious.

I loved the take on “don’t ask, don’t tell”.

TeeDee on February 23, 2008 at 2:01 AM

Viva la more options.

The Ugly American on February 23, 2008 at 2:10 AM

Funny, but not as funny as when Stephen left the McCain campaign, for fear of being “sucked down” with it. Remember that one? How the bus, “Straight Talk Express” had hit a few bumps in the road. Turns out the bumps were former passengers. Now that was funny!

DMeNTe on February 23, 2008 at 2:46 AM

New York conservative who hates Colbert here.

TEH FUNNY.

Damian G. on February 23, 2008 at 3:12 AM

Blue-state conservative. Not funny. A couple times I sort of thought it was clever. That’s as close as I came to a laugh.

But it might be because the whole time I was thinking about Colbert and his conniving attempts at humor and political reverse psychology, and the legions who are dumb enough to fall for this stuff.

JeffB. on February 23, 2008 at 5:03 AM

Again, Colbert uses reality to trip up the interviewee while making his point that the gay lifestyle is a ‘choice’.

When a person makes their choice, which is not recognized by the mainstream, they are not entitled to special recognition because they consider themselves ‘special’.

MSGTAS on February 23, 2008 at 8:35 AM

Joe Solomnese was a great sport

He was a clueless victim! He had no idea of the skewers being run through him.
No, I don’t mean the word “skewer” in that way.

jgapinoy on February 23, 2008 at 8:50 AM

the New Yorker sux, except for the cartoons, of course.

RedWinged Blackbird on February 22, 2008 at 7:57 PM

I enjoy some of the writing in the New Yorker. And many of their writers have an incredible ability to find a tie in between any subject and the stupidity and evilness of Bush. It’s amazing that a discussion about knitting or Ming dynasty burial sites would benefit from a reference to GB. But there it is; they’ll throw it in regardless.

Colbert usually just gets on my nerves but this truly earned its spew warning.

snaggletoothie on February 23, 2008 at 12:19 PM

South Florida conservative here that thought this was hysterical. I like to go to South Beach for dinner/drinks quite often and that might be a factor in why I thought this was so funny.

FLcapitalistthug on February 23, 2008 at 12:46 PM

“Let me lobby YOU for a second” … That’s gold.

FLcapitalistthug on February 23, 2008 at 12:48 PM

LOL

Midas on February 23, 2008 at 12:51 PM

Again, Colbert uses reality to trip up the interviewee while making his point that the gay lifestyle is a ‘choice’.

But I think you’re missing the larger point: Colbert is parodying conservatism through an O’Reillyesque filter. I’m sure he doesn’t really believe that homosexuality is a choice. Rather, he’s making fun of anyone who does.

Kensington on February 23, 2008 at 2:29 PM

this is only a test

Saltysam on February 23, 2008 at 4:49 PM

I was so-so until the last line.
“Thanks for taking time away from destroying the sanctity of marriage”
Classic!

CBarker on February 23, 2008 at 7:15 PM

82 for me 87 for my wife. She’s a slow learner.

Stephen Colbert is a devout Catholic who teaches Sunday School every Sunday in New jersey where he resides.

He is playing a character on TV.

AprilOrit on February 23, 2008 at 10:47 PM

This guy’s still on the air?

really? …I weep for America.

CatsGodot on February 24, 2008 at 6:04 PM

Some of you need to lighten up and appreciate great political satire. Colbert is funny no matter who you are and how he is able to keep the dead pan while asking those questions is a tribute to his comedy. It was a laugh a minute, especially the ghay’s facial expressions (during women options)
