HamNation: All the smears that are fit to print

To fully appreciate this, first read Keller’s defense of the piece at the Times. It’s not that McCain actually did behave inappropriately, it’s that he appeared to have behaved inappropriately — a fatal contradiction, it seems, for a man concerned about appearances of impropriety and therefore ample justification for reprinting anonymous staffers’ innuendo. Or, as Jeff Goldstein might say, because of the hypocrisy!

Enjoy this, though:

I was surprised by how lopsided the opinion was against our decision, with readers who described themselves as independents and Democrats joining Republicans in defending Mr. McCain from what they saw as a cheap shot.

Exit invitation: Pay some attention to this and we’ll call it even. It’s purely circumstantial but that’s right up the Times’s alley these days, it seems. Click the image to watch.

In the past, you’ve attacked more than just Republicans, Keller. Harold Ford slammed you yesterday, recalling when you apparently went after him.

amerpundit on February 22, 2008 at 2:39 PM

No need for the Mango!

I posted this on another thread. Sorta ties in with the attitude of the above noted independents & democrats.

I heard something interesting on Sean Hannity yesterday. A young lady called in (a Hillary fan) and said if Hillary don’t get the nomination, no way she would vote for Obama, she would vote for McCain. Sean said this was a growing trend. He quoted some poll that said some 90% of Hillary voters would NOT vote for Obama if she don’t get the nomination. About the same 80-90% range of Obama supporters said the same. Either way John McCain will probably get a lot of Hillary voters or a lot of Obama voters, each trying to keep their opponent out of office. Just a thought…would’nt it be funny if Hillary or Obama voters are the ones who put McCain over the top in Nov?

kcd on February 22, 2008 at 2:41 PM

That is one of MKH’s best. I especially like the wings and “foot washing” at the end.

Brat on February 22, 2008 at 2:44 PM

Hey! Last night in an HA comment, I wrote, “All the innuendo that’s fit to print.”
Is the Hammer pulling an Obama?

jgapinoy on February 22, 2008 at 2:48 PM

Well done, MK!

baldilocks on February 22, 2008 at 2:49 PM

That was adorable. Loved the ad libs.

askheaves on February 22, 2008 at 2:49 PM

Instant classic! WTG MKH!

Ordinary1 on February 22, 2008 at 2:49 PM

This is MKat at her best, imo, when she is parodying something. Very well done indeed. Hats off to you ma’am.

Spirit of 1776 on February 22, 2008 at 2:55 PM

Perhaps parodying is the wrong word…say rather piggybacking a current common reference point.

I have two guys (one a friend, one at work), Democrats, at work who won’t vote for Obama either. They’d rather take McCain. Not Liberals, I’ll stress, but Democrats who don’t like how far Left Obama is. They see McCain as the moderate, Obama as the extreme.

amerpundit on February 22, 2008 at 2:59 PM

I like MKH’s “Deadpan”

A Day at The Hillquarters

Chakra Hammer on February 22, 2008 at 2:59 PM

How to get a Dem elected Prez:
1) Find rumor about a Republican
2) Hide rumor
3) Endorse him & “fluff” him
4) When he’s the nominee, reveal rumor

jgapinoy on February 22, 2008 at 3:01 PM

amerpundit on February 22, 2008 at 2:59 PM

Darn. We have seven confirmed and tattooed Dems in the shop.
Of those ALL plan on voting for BHO. I don’t believe two of them will vote at all, but the other five are in the bag for the guy. There is one person (of our 13) who have Hillary on their list. Don’t know if it makes any difference…floral business.

Limerick on February 22, 2008 at 3:08 PM

Simply.Brilliant.

Nice work, indeed.

BTW…I echo Chakra’s comments! Hat tip to you, sir.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on February 22, 2008 at 3:11 PM

Good work MKH.

AlanC on February 22, 2008 at 3:13 PM

This is pitiful.
Q.Why didn’t you follow your own rules about anonymous sources?
A.I’m going to throw out a lot of words and some of them will be, “source” and “anonymous.” But the NYT is not obligated to give a sincere and responsive answer to any of your sneaky questions. Smart people believe everything the NYT prints. You’re clearly a backwoods moron who doubts evolution and thinks the earth is flat. No right thinking, properly educated Democrat would ever ask us an embarassing question.

They should have just kept quiet. The more they say about this the worse they look.

Excellent work MKH.. well done!

RobertCSampson on February 22, 2008 at 3:34 PM

Recently, I have been so struck with how right Ann Coulter has been. If the MSM loves someone like The Maverick, we need to be against them. They are setting us up for a beating. And, as predicted, as soon as they have their RINO candidate, they release the dirt.

Q: When did they know about this spurious allegation and did they hold the info until now? If they knew about it before, why did they hold it?

Instant classic.

Green is definitely her color.

jeffshow on February 22, 2008 at 3:51 PM

Fun to watch and accurate… as always. Thanks MKH.

Yakko77 on February 22, 2008 at 3:52 PM

Is it even legal for someone to be so . . . perfect?

srhoades on February 22, 2008 at 3:56 PM

Marykatharine is clever as usual.

mikeyboss on February 22, 2008 at 4:20 PM

“They’ll break your heart every time Johnny” Just like the republicans have broken mine by fielding you as our candidate.

Strong work MKH.

lan astaslem on February 22, 2008 at 4:28 PM

Amazing how much a few lines on a white board can say, isn’t it?

Bob's Kid on February 22, 2008 at 5:16 PM

Awesome HamNation. “washing his feet” OMGosh LOL!

inviolet on February 22, 2008 at 5:51 PM

MKH for president!

mcgilvra on February 22, 2008 at 5:51 PM

I would find it very interesting if all the anti-Obama people vote for McCain, and all the anti-McCain people vote for Obama!

I’d say at least 90% of it is bluster though, from both sides.

asc85 on February 22, 2008 at 6:24 PM

True, the Maverick got slimmed here, but I can’t feel sorry for him.

This much is incontrovertible: After flying first-class aboard a corporate jet in the company of a lobbyist, he then told all of us to shut up our mouths lest we say something to pollute the sweet, sweet, purity of our governing class.

The man’s a hair hole.

paul006 on February 22, 2008 at 6:45 PM

That was GREAT! Nice parody by MKH.

ThackerAgency on February 22, 2008 at 9:09 PM

Great job, Mary Katharine! Way to spoof the UPS commercials and give the MSM a good thwack upside the face.

Jockolantern on February 23, 2008 at 4:08 AM

Great work MKH. Nothing like a good visual to emphasize a lot of dirty words.

MSGTAS on February 23, 2008 at 9:14 AM

MKH always makes my day brighter.
As for McCain… WE TOLD YOU SO!!!!!!!! SUCKER!!!!!!!
