End times approaches: McCain calls for donations to offset the, um, media bias against him

posted at 3:40 pm on February 21, 2008 by Allahpundit

A page torn from the Silky playbook, although this is even more comically absurd than even the dopiest of Edwards’s fundraising ploys, which is saying something. It’s like Billy Jeff asking for money because he has trouble getting dates. I’m tempted to donate just to salute the balls it took to make the argument with a straight face.

Well, here we go. We could expect attacks were coming; as soon as John McCain appeared to be locking up the Republican nomination, the liberal establishment and their allies at the New York Times have gone on the attack. Today’s front-page New York Times story is particularly disgusting – an un-sourced hit-and-run smear campaign designed to distract from the issues at stake in this election. With John McCain leading a number of general-election polls against Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, the New York Times knew the time to attack was now, and they did. We will not allow their scurrilous attack against a great American hero to stand…

Yet, it is there, right on the front page of the New York Times. It is now dominating the cable news coverage. We can only expect these sorts of baseless attacks to continue as we move into the general election cycle. We are going to need your help today, and your continued help in the future to have the resources to respond. We’ll never match the reach of a front-page New York Times article, but with your immediate help today, we’ll be able to respond and defend our nominee from the liberal attack machine.

Running tally thus far: McCain 1, Times 0, TNR 0.

Maybe he should take a victory lap through Mexico to raise some money.

It is not swiftboating.

Swiftboating is when you hurt a politician’s opularity and damage hiselection prospects by ACCURATELY REPORTING THE TRUTH about that candidate.

There was not one shred of truth in the pile of crud printed in the NYT, therefore it was a pathetic, unethical, slimy smearjob by a politically biased rag with a declining readership, but was not swiftboating.

I don’t agree. I think it’s a smart campaign move. I’m guessing there are plenty of people who would like to vote against the Democrat Media department NYT’s even if it’s in the form a vote for McCain.

Topsecretk9 on February 21, 2008 at 3:53 PM

I thought when candidates needed money they always went to their base first!

During a question-answer session on Monday with Newsweek Magazine’s Evan Thomas, McCain felt so confident in front of the audience that he jokingly referred to the media as “my base.”

Not one red cent until McCain addresses the issues and values that I’m concerned about.

John McCain isn’t a “victim” of the media. Throughout his career, he’s flocked to the glare of media spotlights like a moth to a bug zapper. He’s used the media to call me a racist for opposing his deal with Teddy Kennedy to grant amnesty to illegals. He’s told me I can’t use the media to support a candidate 30 days prior to a national election.

And now he wants me to give him money? Fat Chance until he comes around and does something worthy of my support and vote.

The Slate article makes a pretty solid case that what I was saying in the Limbaugh thread is true… they probably weren’t going to run the story anyway, but they got “spooked” (Slate’s word) into running their crap by TNR, and vice versa. Take note, Zetterson, Misha, et al.

I just can’t vote for McCain because of his disgusting performance on amnesty. All 3 candidates suck on this issue, so I will just let the public choose which one.

Obama is as empty as a spent shotgun shell, so I don’t think he has the juice to screw things up too bad. McCain, though, he is dangerous because he can get things done no matter how stupid they may be.

Second, he may not be directly responsible for the damage, but rather the people endorsing him in order to gain power. Again, his inexperience may make that worse.

The longer McCain refuses to address the issues of social conservatives, the more he is going have to rely on the mindless cult following of idiots who repeatedly tell me that I “have” to vote for the man and that I have no other options. I’m sure McCain’s people will be glad to see that their propoganda worked on you.

But money isn’t the only kind of support McCain needs. You need to move down South and knock on all those doors that will be ignored because grassroots Republicans (i.e. the real Republicans) don’t get involved in this campaign to foist a RINO on the party. You can use the time it takes to take the bus down to Alabama, or wherever, stuffing all the envelopes that won’t be stuffed for the same reason. You’ll have to get yourself cloned to give McCain all the poll sitters he needs to organize and mobilize the base on election day. And if all that isn’t hard enough, you’ll be limited in what you do to support your failed candidate 30 days prior to the election due to legislation that he passed in the name of reform.

Lotsa luck.

stenwin77 on February 21, 2008 at 4:34 PM

You’re not still under the impression that someone else will be our nominee this year, right?

amerpundit on February 21, 2008 at 4:36 PM

You never pulled the lever for Reagan, you phony.

Hiney Von Pewps on February 21, 2008 at 4:32 PM

How do you know? I don’t like McCain and I voted for Reagan (and I even voted for Nixon). How is it you know who everyone voted for?\

Not everyone agrees with you.

stenwin77 on February 21, 2008 at 4:36 PM

Tough times. Sounds like an old Fred!thread around here.

Limerick on February 21, 2008 at 4:37 PM

McCain is going to have so much trouble raising money. He is going to have to rely heavily on his fellow slave labor whores.

Zetterson on February 21, 2008 at 4:38 PM

Mr. Reagan would take you to the woodshed

Agreed. The 11th Commandment has been fractured beyond repair. I will still oppose Mr. McCain because I honestly believe he is the worst threat to conservatism out there. Yes, even more than Obama.

If conservatism is to go down, let it not be behind the Bush-McCain strategy of selling the store piecemeal. Let’s go down swinging with clear idealogical lines.

I got that request today too. I responded back that until McCain distances himself from Juan Hernandez he won’t get a dime from me.

I can hold my nose and vote, but I can’t hold my nose and reach in my wallet.

ctmom on February 21, 2008 at 4:41 PM

I know for a fact that you can NOT like or NOT support mcCain for very valid reasons and STILL be a Conservative.

stenwin77 on February 21, 2008 at 4:33 PM

Last I checked, flailing trolls like you weren’t allowing any one to like or support McCain and still be a conservative, so, seriously, go f**k yourself.

Hiney Von Pewps on February 21, 2008 at 4:41 PM

Hillary Clinton tried repeatedly to cry for sympathy.

This is how you really get sympathy.

About To Backfire.

Dorvillian on February 21, 2008 at 4:41 PM

To understand the truly dreadful nature of the NY Times, just look at its history. In the 1930s, Walter Duranty, a star writer at the Times and a man who is still venerated by editors at the Times, covered up the news of the Communist government in Russia deliberately starving to death millions of people, particularly Ukranians. During the years of the holocaust, the Sulzbergers, who then and now dominated the Times, refused to cover the holocaust and they knew alot about was going on. Reporters in the field tried to get the Sulzbergers interested. The Sulzbergers largely spiked news of the holocaust because they thought it could lead to support for the creation of the State of Israel. The Times fervently opposed the creation of the State of Israel. The late 1950s were years when the Times was a cheerleader for Fidel Castro, actually calling Castro “Dr. Castro” on numerous occasions. Then there is columnist Anthony Lewis who used the word “extermination” to describe Israel’s policies toward the Arabs. For Lewis, Israel is worst than Nazi Germany. That’s all you need to know about the New York Times.

Name me countries which have reverted from Socialism.

Don’t donate to McCain. Send him nasty letters, explaining why. I did send those, without money, to Mr. Bush 43 in 2006/2007, even when Mrs. Bush wrote, to donate, because it’s his/her birthday…But think hard what you do in Nov.

Again, not a McCain friend here…

Eh……with the debate tonight more of the ‘dunno’ crowd will be back. Everytime B(end)H(izself)O(ver) opens his mouth the base will gain strength. I still don’t give us more then a 30% chance of beating the SOB but we have to try.

If you are going to stay home, then stay home. But when BHO and his majority in the House and Senate start putting hands in your wallets, justices in your courts, and penalities on your tax returns, make sure you stay home. I for one won’t be unlocking the door for you if you come knocking.

Come on, you’re really stooping to a whole other level – where I sure don’t want to go. I’m not a troll. I have been a member of HA since the day it started. You really lose credibility when you start talking to others like that.

People can honestly disagree with you and with John McCain and still be real conservatives. Lighten up.

stenwin77 on February 21, 2008 at 4:50 PM

So now a jerk who has spent 7 years telling me to fuck off, that he doesn’t need me and that, furthermore, I’m a racist and a bigot is begging for my money?

Gee, it’s really hard to come up with an appropriate response to that, now isn’t it?

Hey, McJuan, you’ve told me that my opinions are of no concern to you, you’ve called me every name in the book, you’ve informed me that my support for you isn’t needed and that I can, for all intents and purposes, go take a flying fuck at a rolling donut.

Consider your wish granted, asshole.

Have fun with your darling new friends in the MSM now, y’hear?

They don’t and all democracies eventually end up there by voting themselves largess from the federal treasury.
