Video: Michelle on Michelle

A televised addendum to today’s NR piece. MM makes a nice point contrasting Obama’s “just words?” indignation towards Team Hillary with his “just words” defense of his wife, but beyond that there’s not much to say. The woman made a Kinsleyan gaffe. End of story.

But since we’ve been beating up on the Messiah pretty good today and memory-refreshening’s suddenly all the rage, let me leave you with this gentle reminder: Michelle Obama’s not the only person left in the race to express this rather more nuanced version of patriotism.

Update: Fan mail from her appearance:

Hello hotair news desk,

Please tell Michelle Malkin…She does not represent the Asian Community, since the Asian Community does not recognize her as Asian…

The Absolute Truth!

Thank You

know a young lady who was upset when it looked like Hillary would be the first female president, because SHE (the young lady) wants to be the first female president. She doesn’t need someone else’s accomplishments to give her confidence. She’s got plenty of her own, thank you. ;-)I know a lot of young girls like that too.

Who’s supposed to be “representing” the “asian community”? And why does it need “representing”?

This is the problem with these communities. They’re not Americans, they’re “Asian-Americans”! Bunch of idiots!

CIA World Factbook

USA

Ethnic groups:
white 81.7%
black 12.9%
Asian 4.2%
Amerindian and Alaska native 1%
native Hawaiian and other Pacific islander 0.2%
(2003 est.)

note: a separate listing for Hispanic is not included because the US Census Bureau considers Hispanic to mean a person of Latin American descent (including persons of Cuban, Mexican, or Puerto Rican origin) living in the US who may be of any race or ethnic group (white, black, Asian, etc.)

Anyway, I’m sure Michelle is losing all sorts of sleep over that email. The strange thing is that among conservative forum denizens race is seldom mentioned while on the liberal sites it seems to be a fairly constant topic in one form or another.

Gah,

I’m half Japanese half Cuban where is my rep.

This whole she does not represent “My” community is just dumb.

Either you are an American or you are not.

I consider myself an American. I suppose that is the benefit of comming from a mixed family. I don’t feel the need to identify myself with an ethnic group. Which is why I cannot be a democrat.

Well another great break down of the Obama’s we dislike
America, and Michelle looks radiant as always.

Here’s my novice 2 cents,Michelle Obama deliberatly meant
what she said, she was targetting the audience or for that
matter African Americans that have given up on the their
own party,the Liberal Democrats.

And whats interesting to watch is that right now,Liberals
are saying Two Americas,so be it.However right now their
are Two Liberal Partys,Obama’s playing MLK line and Hillary
is stuck on we need “change from the Bush administration”.

Obama is trying to start were Martin Luther King left off,
and African American voters are tired of being told by their
own party they can’t.If Obama by some miracle doesn’t get
the Liberal nominee it will fall squarely on the Liberals
and thank-god Republicans are out of this equation!

So your only Asian American if you are a democrat ?

My Dad and all his baby boomer aged friends agree! They think my brother, mom, and I are crazy for not wanting to be taken care of by the state or wanting to pay higher taxes. Not to mention they have some misplaced sense of gratitude because the dems “help” a country they haven’t been citizens or have had any intention of expatriating to for 30 years.

Also republicans are “racist”is a meme amongst them. Although he doesn’t like it much when I point out he hates Jews and Chinese Americans. Which made high school very awkward since all my friends were either Jewish or Chinese. Oh and he refused to vote for Gore in 2000, because of “Jew” Lieberman.

You can read seething militancy all over her face. You can see it in her eyes. The more screen time she gets, the more people will see the anger. Her husband is still going to win (assuming he doesn’t get kneecapped by the Clinton machine), but pointing out just how militant she is will open up enough folks’ eyes about Barry O’s likely militant tendencies.

At this point, it’s about stopping El Duce’s charisma rocket before it gets to apex. That ain’t gonna happen in November, certainly not if he taps Clinton Inc. as copilots. It’s gonna have to happen in 2010, since McCain will likely suck enough oxygen out of the Republican political climate to prevent a congressional counterattack this cycle.

We’ve got to look to the Congress, especially the House. Also, the various state houses and governorships. If we can get ourselves in something resembling a position of strength, we can force the Obamessiah to the table.

spmat on February 20, 2008 at 9:45 PM

one poster, does not speak for an entire race, nor can we prove that persons credentials.

True. But the real question here is: why is anybody trying to speak as a race? Why is race even being tracked. Why are some people determined to seperate out this country into groups of conflicted blocks based on their national orgin or skin color? Nobody here is for it. It’s not supposed to matter (though, oddly enough, the Democrats keep telling us it does.) I don’t think it does. It’s the left and the Democrats (same thing, again) that keep that entire lie alive. We see it again and again. When race becomes an issue, it’s the ‘progressives’ who have made it one. That is one of the purest forms of Anti-Americanism there is.

I lived in the South for 9.5 years while I was in the Army and knew many Asians (most of them were married to, or the children of, military guys).

These people were the salt of the earth- strong family people who supported each-other. They were the hardest workers I’ve ever seen. Many of them became business owners after only being in country for a few years.

They certainly weren’t liberals. Has something changed that I’m not aware of?

To paraphrase Wayne’s World, Michelle is Babelicious, she’s an Asian A-Babe-rican, she’s THE Belle from Philly, a true Tower of Babe-ness.

But seriously, Michelle is out there leading the fight for the Right. You go girl! ;-)

I wonder if the bonehead that slammed Michelle’s “asian-ness” considers Obama Black. He’s half-black. To say he is black is to call a Rum and Coke just a glass of Coke.

Hyphenated-anything American is flat wrong. My wife is second generation Japanese. He parents immigrated here (legally) 40 years ago. Neither she, nor her family, refer to themselves as anything other than American citizens.

And they are proud to be Americans, and thankful for the opportunity to be so.

To whoever emailed Michelle Malkin and said that she doesn’t represent the Asian community, I would agree wholeheartedly.

Michelle Malkin is a true patriot, and represents the American community.

Thank-you Michelle!

Michelle has said she is American of asian ancestry. She takes pride in being an American as we all should. I don’t agree with all of Michelle’s views but she is one smart, logical, sharp and gutsy young woman.

GO MICHELLE.

Unfortunate that there are so many racist groups, Asian included, that identify themselves as, and put first, their ethnic group. True Americans are Americans of … descent, not Asians, Hispanics, Blacks, etc.

greenLibertarian on February 21, 2008 at 1:13 AM

Please tell Michelle Malkin…She does not represent the Asian Community, since the Asian Community does not recognize her as Asian…

There is no Asian community! Since when did Chinese, Koreans, Indians, Japanese, Filipinos, Thai and others from that continent form a united anything, let alone a PAC? Each of these groups are integrated to varying degrees, depending on whether they are 1st generation, 2nd generation or 3rd generation immigrants.

This is about the most ridiculous ethnic label ever applied, as though it’s impossible to distinguish a Chinese from a Korean from a Filipino from a…. And how is it that this label is not usually used to describe people from India? (Of course, bad as it is here, in UK, ‘Asian’ is just pc-speak for Mohammedan).

infidelpride on February 21, 2008 at 1:17 AM

Just words?
“We hold these truths to be self evident…”
Just words?
“I have a dream…”
Just words?
“For the first time in my adult life I am proud of America.”

“One of these things is not like the other,
one of these things just doesn’t belong.”

Doug on February 21, 2008 at 1:55 AM

Basic tenet, yes. And the basic far-Leftism of the Obamas is both why they are so popular and their Achilles heel. The country has been primed, by the out-of-control MSM and public un-education system, to accept far-Left socialism as “progressive” or “tolerance” or any of the other words used to disguise it these days, and after 2 terms of historic hatred spewed at a Republican president, the country - half of it, at least - seems able to ignore what Obama really stands for.

But this can be McCain’s best chance. By dissecting the real Obama he can turn enough people against The Messiah to easily win. But to do that he’ll have to be scathingly honest - no New Tone! - but that’s what McCain says he’s good at, right?

Here we (the country) go. MM is a human being who sees the truth for what it is Truth.

Asian, European, African, Mid Eastern, Eskimo all identify a population of a geographic area of the world. MM is an American who does not need the hyphen when she focuses on the message of Truth.

Hyphenated persons or monikers are confused and only want the best of both worlds. The ability to claim they are from America or a better family and free to do much more than they could do in the country/ethnicity preceding the hyphen.

Those of Asian-American, African-American or Mr./Ms. Smith-Jones, etc. place the minority first with the intent of gaining sympathy or an upper hand in their relationships with anyone or thing. When they are on the short end they will use their minority rationalize or justify why they are not making progress in life or relationship.

To gain an upper hand seeking protection from prosecution or percussion they immediately claim they are American or a Jones and demand to be afforded the rights afforded the freest nation or richer person in their make believe relationship and are not responsible because the first noun in the hyphenated moniker provides them protection from their action or inaction.

The bottom line. Hyphenated persons use punctuation to avoid the fact they are responsible for their personal actions which have nothing with to do with their nationality or relationship with another person.

Anton on February 21, 2008 at 9:35 AM

“Please tell Michelle Malkin.” (that) “She does not represent the Asian Community, since the Asian Community does not recognize her as Asian…
The Absolute Truth!”

Aside from this person having questionable intelligence and writing skills, she, or (less likely) he, has a complex that allows her/him to not only KNOW what the Asian community thinks (NOT) but to declare (as ‘truth’) the leftist bigotry that anyone who is a conservative is not ‘one of them’.
No amount of logic could make a dent in this ideology but I can imagine what MM would say to this person if she cared to: I am an American first, so I don’t care what your so-called Asian community might think. And, if your comment is any indication of the bigotry in that community, I want nothing to do with it.

As always, Michelle is a joy to watch and listen to. Beauty and brains together in the same person(!); we are blessed to have her champion our conservative values.

Christine on February 21, 2008 at 1:22 PM

Funny, I don’t see MM as asian, jewish, black or white. I see her as an American.

BTW: why isn’t MM on Billy O’Reilly’s show anymore? Did Bill feel threatened she was she getting too good in filling on his show….;-)
