Nominating Obama, however, may have a depressing effect on Democratic women (and leaners), ...

No chance. Democratic women (and sadly many so-called independents) vote with their groins. They're hot for Obama. They're lining up to be "interns" in the Obama White House.

No way Hillary can steal this one back from Obama at this point. No way. Get used to it, we're going against Obama, and we'll either win or lose by a landslide. This one won't be close.

Derbyshire is nuts with his Ron Paul support (I've tried to talk the guy out of it) but he is figgin' hilarious nonetheless. If you're not subscribing to Derb Radio on iTunes, you're missing out.

well think about it, kids who are 12 now will be able to vote in 8 years. Kids who were 4 back in the beginning of Clinton years can vote now. eh, we'll have an uninformed generation voting if Hillary comes back to run another day. SHe'll be an older nag by then and surely Bill would have used up his lifes extension that the bypass gave him.

It’s our dumb luck that we finally get the Clintons in an election where we can beat them … and they flame out in the primary against a superior candidate

I'm not so sure anymore. Does anyone else get the sense that the press would love to see this Obama bubble burst and bring him down to earth? With a little assistance from the media it could be done.

And then what are we left with? The most liberal politician in the United States whose laundry list of goodies for the voters along with a squishy feeling you get when feeling for a backbone on foreign policy could make him very beatable.

McCain polls better than Obama among indies. He even pulls in more Democrats than any other GOP candidate since Reagan. I think November is doable if McCain can get the fundies out of the pews and into the voting booth.

I wouldn't have written this a week ago. But this guy is not a god and can be shown to be the empty suit he truly is - a scary empty suit at that.

Some of you folks are awfully pessimistic. As Harry Truman said, "The American people can always recognize a phony." It may take them a while, but they will see through an empty suit and vacuous rhetoric and hysterical fans who faint at rallies. Add to this the kind of gaffes Obama and his wife have been making, and there's a good chance that a Dukakis-style collapse for the Obama campaign awaits us. Courage, people!

I think that Obama is way too liberal for the average American voter. Hopefully, they will realize that before the general. If they don’t, we’ll see a comeback for the Republicans in the next midterm election when the voters realize just how leftist their new president is.

That`s probably all we have to hope for. I`m already preparing myself for President Obama.

I'm not sure Hillary has a long Senate career. Note the following headline from the NY Post.

MIKE BLOOMBERG CLAIMS VOTE 'FRAUD’ (He claims Democrats tried to stiff Obama.)

Bloomberg's ambitious and he's got a billion dollars to burn. Isn't it likely he might take her Senate seat away in 1212?

She may not have to wait 8 years. Even if she admits defeat you think the clintons won't do everything they can to sabotage obama in the general? than you get a republican in office and get ready for 2012.

They don't give a damn for party unity unless the party is united behind them.

The house hasn't fallen yet and her stripped socks are sticking out from under it!!! Don't count her out, there's always the Dim machine who wants to put someone they can use into office. I don't think Barry is going to be that easy to boss around if he wins despite everything. In spite of the fact the Clintons have used the party for their own purposes, they still have the party connections. I see Michigan and Florida allowed and the witch getting the nomination.

Update: Meant to add: Even if she has to wait eight years, until she’s 68, she’s running again, isn’t she?

I don't think so. Hillary's loss to Obama, considering the early inevitability she enjoyed, is far too devistating. It will be too easy for the electorate to view her as the "can't win" candidate next time around. Not to mention the fact that one of the main reasons she lost this time around is, quite frankly, she's too easy to dislike. She is shrill, arrogant, corrupt, manipulating, shameless and transparently fake. Also, working against her is the fact that as Bill gains in years he seems to lose in likeability himself. That man is definitely losing his mojo or maybe its just that people are finally catching on. I've actually been hearing a lot of democrats talking about the Clinton scandals lately. Less and less seems to be rolling off their backs at this point. I don't see this situation having improved for them 8 years from now. In addtion to this, in 8 years, Hillary is going to be even harder to look at. Don't tell me that doesn't matter. The one thing she cannot fight, no matter how much money she has, no matter who she bribes is the toll that time takes on the human body. Considering her starting point (now) she is going to be a horrid looking character come next election. Combine that with her ever cringe inducing voice and you have a terrible candidate. She is going to be bitter, ugly and old. When this election is finished and she loses to Obama she becomes nothing more then Teddy Kennedy. A bitter, lefty political hack voting in favor of socialism from her NY Senate seat at every opportunity. No longer considered a viable presidential candidate.

This is why I want her eliminated NOW. While we can still eliminate her for good. Obama has exceeded expectations politically. Even if he loses he has the next democratic nomination wrapped up. Its in his pocket. He has guaranteed a position at the top of the Democrat ticket either now or later. That is inevitable. If he loses this time around we are going to be up against him the next time around. I say eliminate Clinton now. Guarantee her demise for good. The Dems are going to win this election in 08. Rather then having another Clinton presidency and then starring a political powerhouse Obama in the face 8 years from now lets go up against him NOW. Lets eliminate the witch NOW. After the disaster that an Obama presidency promises to be, we will be in a fine position to select the proper Republican candidate (not John McCain) 4 or 8 years from now. That is the best we can hope for. That should be our strategy.

On the other hand, if McCain does the impossible and beats Obama this time around (not going to happen), Hillary is still alive and gearing up for the next election cycle. It will be her last chance. Given that, expect Hillary to do what she can to elect John McCain in '08.

On the other hand, if McCain does the impossible and beats Obama this time around (not going to happen), Hillary is still alive and gearing up for the next election cycle. It will be her last chance. Given that, expect Hillary to do what she can to elect John McCain in ’08.

My (hopefully) paranoid Clinton-inspired nightmare:

Hillary VERY graciously bows out.
Obama receives the accolades of the hysterical masses.
"Something" happens to Obama.
Hillary is brought back by the hysterical masses in a fever to replace their messiah.
Hillary is elected in a bloodbath of sympathy.
Bill smiles quietly offstage.

Even if she has to wait eight years, until she’s 68, she’s running again, isn’t she?

Maybe not. The Democrats have treated their "losers" very poorly; gone are the days that William Jennings Bryan and Adlai Stevenson could run again and again. It's not even like the Republicans, where Dole and McCain can be nominees after coming in second place eight years earlier. Gore, Dean, and Kerry knew this; that's why they didn't even bother. Look what happened to Edwards, Lieberman, Dukakis, Mondale, etc. Clinton might have to settle for a different role to exercise power, as have Dean and Gore.

No way Barry takes her as VP. Not with Bill in tow waiting to upstage him. Nobody in their right mind would do that. And come on, with the wake of dead bodies around the Clintons, would you want Hillary as your #2?

Besides, Hillary has already been VP for 8 years. Just ask Al Gore. Why would she give up a lifetime Senate seat to do that again?

Women don’t age as well as we men :)

True, that. But they don't forgive men who point it out :)

Rush just mentioned a possibility that hadn’t occurred to me: If it’s her last hope, she may strong-arm herself into the VP slot on Obama’s ticket.

This is the nightmare scenario.

petefrt on February 20, 2008 at 12:31 PM

Rush, and a few others, are wrong. Obama will never ask her, and, if asked, she'd be stupid to accept. She's many ugly things, but not stupid. Her power in the Senate is greater than that of VP. Obama doesn't need her and can't afford to be overshadowed by the Clintons. Which reminds of

Meant to add: Even if she has to wait eight years, until she’s 68, she’s running again, isn’t she?

She will run again, but in 4 years. Thus, one more reason not to take the VP slot.

Strictly on topic, though, this is not over yet. These are the Clintons.

Texans, vote for her now, and against her in Nov.

If that happens, I wouldn't bet 2 cents on Obama living two years. JFK and LBJ all over again.

Ironic, since she's compared herself to LBJ more than once!

Will history repeat itself?

...or should we pause at last to exult in her failure, electoral consequences be damned?

Yes. Let's have one small moment of giddiness in seeing the Clinton's finally fall victim to their own tactics.

Besides, I still say Obama is not that strong policy-wise. Tonights debate will tell us alot about that.
