Just laying a little talking-points groundwork in case the miracle happens in Texas and Ohio and she decides to implement Operation: Destroy The Party after all. Jake Tapper duly delivers the eyeroll. How’s she going to win with the superdelegates when they keep inching over to Obama’s side?
Ace thinks she’ll go quietly now, sliding easily into the consolation prize of Senate power broker and elder statesman in the same “dignified” way that, um, Ted Kennedy did.
Soon, perhaps. But not yet.
Peggy Noonan wondered a few weeks ago how bad it’ll get before she accepts defeat “gracefully”; the possibility that it’ll get very bad indeed is our own lone consolation prize. All I ask is for one or two moments of true meltdown — a Buffenbargerian explosion by Hillary here, a reprise of his patented brand of “aw, shucks” race-baiting by Billy Jeff there. Give us something to remember you by. Something Clintonian.
In the meantime, crack Clinton strategist Mark Penn hits on the stroke of genius that’s going to turn the whole thing around: Only Hillary has the credibility as commander-in-chief … to order a total surrender in Iraq.
Update: Rats off the ship.

Gets better. Drudge Report just reported the following: On a conference call, top strategist Mark Penn just told reporters that in the next two weeks Hillary Clinton will go after Barack Obama on the issue of who is better qualified to be commander-in-chief — and Penn suggested that Clinton would be a better commander of the nation’s armed forces than both Obama and John McCain. “She is the only person in this race who is both ready to be commander-in-chief and would end the Iraq war and start to bring troops home within 60 days, compared to both Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain,” Penn told reporters.
Like B.O. OR McPain aren’t ready for this? Come on! She is sinking fast and grasping at anything to keep her afloat!

I’m waiting for HRC to do her howard dean. Any day now…
swami on February 20, 2008 at 1:58 PM
In the last exit polls from WIsconsin Hillary beat Obama on that question. Many dont seem him as the commander in cheif.
McCain would do well to say “I’ve worn the uniform and I can lead out troops in times of crisis”

Sigh… looks like our county will become an obamanation on earth…

When she does, I hope it includes her uninhibited thoughts on Bill.
windbag on February 20, 2008 at 2:02 PM
If anyone is going to wind up doing a Howard Dean, it most likely will be Bubba Billy. He’s been practicing for a full blown grand mal hissy fit for weeks now. Her conceding will be the final shoe dropped before he blows a gasket the size of Mt. St. Helens. I can’t wait to see that one! It’ll be on YouTube for months after!
pilamaye on February 20, 2008 at 2:06 PM
Wait, what about the rainbows and unicorns….there will be rainbows and unicorns? Right??
ihasurnominashun on February 20, 2008 at 2:09 PM
Honestly now. Are the blogging pundits intentionally talking gloom and doom about how unstoppable Obama is in the general as some kind of reverse psychology voodoo mind game? Sure, we knew there was built in hatred of Hillary to rely on rallying the base. But come on. Obama is the most liberal Senator in Washington. He has a track record of exactly zero accomplishment. He has a wife that is as likable as Hillary. You KNOW he has crap in his background that will make anyone over 55 look at him and say, “Uh… sorry. Give me the old war hero, not the guy who specializes in ‘present’ votes.” And again, seniors vote. “Enthusiastic” new voters…uh… don’t.
The dude is far, far from unstoppable. I say Mav beats him by 7.

I think she’ll just bow out. Not to whitewash her or anything but let’s not be unhinged about the woman. She wouldnt nuke the party to get elected.
Dash on February 20, 2008 at 2:14 PM
Lame indeed…and this from the, ahem, ’smartest woman in the world’. Riiight.
Let’s hear it for the Democratic Party for having the stupidest and most unnecessarily complex electoral process evah!
CP on February 20, 2008 at 2:15 PM
What makes you say that?
CP on February 20, 2008 at 2:15 PM
Oh, my! Forget about the house. Now she has to worry about ending up under a stadium.

After Hillary has her ‘Howard Dean’ moment, then its time to consider the next step.

Yes, rainbows and unicorns. Here, you may find this info useful for the obamageddon:

I agree Mav can beat Obama. Early polling has them tied or Obama up slightly.
In 1980,1988, 1992 and 2000 at this time each of the democratic candidates had a +10 to 15% poll lead only to see it evaporate.
Democrats always outnumber republicans and they unite just in time for their convention. However the race stops being dem vs dem and real differences come out for comparison.
Obama’s hope beats Hillary’s Experience but only amoung glassy eyed democrats. When the youth vote falters and the racial politics of the dems kick in the democratic party unity disintigrates.
I just read that if Douglas Wilder had run in 1992 that Bill Clinton wouldnt have won the nomination. It allowed him to get blacks solidly behind him and he united them and other liberals and then appealed to moderates. And even then took a third party candidate to propell him to the presidency.
And again no democrat has won the presidency without being a southerner since JFK. And even then JFK needed Mayor Daily and a very strong LBJ as VP to do it. IS there a powerful southern democrat in the mold of LBJ to balance Barak’s southern “Problem” ? I dont know of any.
William Amos on February 20, 2008 at 2:18 PM
I don’t picture her going postal on the party. She’ll use her senate seat to extract her revenge.
Limerick on February 20, 2008 at 2:20 PM
Oh puh-leaze! Shillary makes Lady MacBeth look like Minnie Mouse! She wouldn’t hesitate 1 second in nuking the party into a big smoky hole in the ground so as to get elected! She only holds allegiance to herself and her own drive for power, and Heaven help anyone or anything that stands in her way.
pilamaye on February 20, 2008 at 2:22 PM
Of course there will be! And I, for one, will be turning cartwheels and farting rainbows! (NOT) ; )
kcd on February 20, 2008 at 2:23 PM
P.S. After all, that is what lies in “Fairy Tale land”…isn’t it?
kcd on February 20, 2008 at 2:23 PM
Is it just me, or does the whole concept of a “super delegate” smack of Orwell’s Animal Farm? - all are equal, but some are more equal than others.
Why do Marxists always end up acting like - Marxists?
Platitudes of a classless society, yet always vying for power over the masses - err, classes, err, workers, err, imbeciles who need to be taken care of by those of us who know what is best for them.
Ahhh, the workers’ paradise - as administered by the elite.
OhEssYouCowboys on February 20, 2008 at 2:30 PM
Hillary is going to wind up like Ted: irrelevant liberal Senator-for-life from a liberal state, divorced, overweight, getting drunk in resort bars and hitting on chicks a third of their age.

Brat on February 20, 2008 at 2:38 PM
Plan B will be for her to be VP.
Then she is only a heartbeat away from the oval office. That’s easy. Google Clintons and “friends” who die suddenly.
stenwin77 on February 20, 2008 at 2:40 PM
And considering that Chuckie Schuemer has no plans of leaving the Senate anytime soon, she will practically be the junior senator for as long as she serves. And don’t tell me that won’t stick in her craw every single day of her life!
pilamaye on February 20, 2008 at 2:42 PM
The Democrats Control the House and Senate, they can’t do ANYTHING.
Sorry leadership, with lower approval ratings than the President.

BTW, Yahoo News today caught Hillary Clinton stealing a line from the movie “A Few Good Men”. Hillary stated “You stand on the wall and protect this country…”. Yahoo News recalled that this is a line that the Nicholson character said to the Cruise character in the movie. I wonder why Obama doesn’t seize on it. BTW, I caught Hillary telling a big fish tale in Wisconsin a few days ago. Hillary began a speech by telling about seeing a man at her earlier rally wearing a US Marine T-Shirt. Heck, nobody ever wore a US Marine T-Shirt to a Hillary or Bill Clinton rally. Not ever! Second, it is the middle of winter in Wisconsin. Who the heck is wearing a T-Shirt to a rally! Then Hillary said the man said to her (how convenient): I’m back from Iraq but my buddies are still there. Take care of them and then take care of me”. That statement shows Hillary’s view of government and her view of herself as the nation’s mother but it not the thing any US marine would ever say. US marines are taught selfreliance and would never say to Hillary Clinton: “Take care of me”. That led Hillary into a prearranged jangle about the military men and women but she totally made up the crapola about a marine begging Mother Hillary to “take care of me”. Hillary Clinton is followed around 24/7 by news crews. If there were such an incident of motherlove for Hillary from a US marine, why is there no video of it? Why is there no photo? And Hillary was careful not to say exactly where this incident of mother love for Hillary took place.
I just wonder if Hillary is so lost at sea that she truly believes this incident took place.

I want HClinton to stay in the race because I think Obama’s wave of support would wash right over McCain in the general.
Wipeout. Game over. The Republicans need HClinton to be the catalyst which will energize their base. Much like the Dems attempted with Bush-hate in the last election.
Hang on, Hillary!

yeah, they vote for people who will keep those social security checks flowing
urbancenturion on February 20, 2008 at 3:21 PM
Hillary will be back in December, courting the votes of the Electoral College delegates, who are not really pledged either.

I think too many people are underestimating Osama Obama’s ability to destroy the Dem party on his own, with little help from anyone but Ms O.
At the moment, all that fraudulent crap about “change” plays well with the rubes, but at some point even his worshipers in the MSM are going to want to see some substance. When they do, even the limousine-liberal and NYT gangs will desert him.
Surrender and socialism are chic in the abstract, but when they get too close to reality, the Messiah’s slick/sick game will be over.

Bill is sweating bullets, best he leave the country, the very next day, for a little vacation when Hillary decides to throw in the hat.

I want people to cross over and vote for Hillary, just to keep her in the game for a while longer. Adds to the drama.
