Video: Pat Robertson talks about cocaine Correction

Yes, you read the headline right. I don’t even know what to make of this clip, other than to note it’s probably the most bizarre thing you’ll see today. Pat Robertson casually discusses one of his producer’s use of cocaine.

Correction (Michelle): See my 11:10am comment below.

This is the Huffington Post trying to slime Pat Robertson by taking his comments about Hugo Chavez out of context.

Update (Bryan): The mistake here is entirely mine, and I regret the error.

Holy. Sh*t.

amerpundit on February 19, 2008 at 10:53 AM

Is this a current producer? HAHA

p40tiger on February 19, 2008 at 10:54 AM

I don’t know what’s worse, Robertson talking about the cocaine use, or that he attributes the guy’s “heretical values” to it. Very strange indeed.

Big S on February 19, 2008 at 10:56 AM

Umm. Okey dokey then.

MarkoMancuso on February 19, 2008 at 10:56 AM

“…As I understand, the distribution of cocaine and its derivatives are against the law…”

Why, that’s correct, Pat! Have you ever thought about trying out for “Jeopardy”?

Lee on February 19, 2008 at 10:57 AM

Wayyyyyy to funny. Time for Palm Springs and the Par 2 golf courses.

Limerick on February 19, 2008 at 11:00 AM

Clueless.

snaggletoothie on February 19, 2008 at 11:00 AM

Ok I need to hear what was right before this. It sounds like a misplaced “HE” His producer showed him something. Didn’t tell him, but showed him, as in a video of someone else.

I can’t believe that bible thumper would keep any employees he knew was using illegal drugs. Then he calls the drug dealer by name! The cartel may be gunning for ol’ Pat.

I think you’re probably right, and the person he’s talking about may be Hugo Chavez.

I think you’re right. He’s talking about someone’s bluff, right before that. Probably Chavez.

That coca paste sounds useful. Where can I buy me some?

You are right! He’s not talking about the producer. I think he’s talking about either Castro or Chavez…I think I remember hearing the same thing about Chavez (or Castro…I mix the two musketeers).

p40tiger on February 19, 2008 at 11:06 AM

It’s like he’s saying “See! I have people working for me who sin just like you do! Isn’t that something?”

As to why he is saying this, I haven’t got a friggin’ clue!

Pat – “You get all hopped up on coke, and it’ll do it to ya”

Sounds like a personal recollection, eh Pat?

FLcapitalistthug on February 19, 2008 at 11:09 AM

I agree. they are definitely talking about chavez or something. The misplaced he and how it cuts into the middle of this doesn’t seem right.

I’m pretty sure he’s right about it being Evo Morales; Bolivia has a long history of cocaine production, including putting coca leaves in their coffee and tea. That’s not to say with Colombia’s proximity to Venezuela that Mr. Chavez doesn’t do a bump or four every so often.

I guess, and although it’s not fair in this situation, Robertson’s made himself a pretty big target for derision over the years. How about his sidekick, though? I guess Chavez is “just a man with a very interesting perspective on things.”

FLcapitalistthug on February 19, 2008 at 11:11 AM

Check out my 11:06 link. The arm flexing anecdote is a dead giveaway that it’s Chavez.

Big S on February 19, 2008 at 11:15 AM

Sure he didn’t misunderstand cocoa paste?

Good for baking brownies.

(Uh-oh, another drug!)

So criticize him when he says stupid things.

The sidekick was just being wry.

What the…?

Wow! That’s amazing…Chavez all coked up playing with Russian missles…Ehhhh

FLcapitalistthug on February 19, 2008 at 11:23 AM

In the HuffPo thread, someone points out early on that he’s talking about Chavez, but the commenters just keep on trucking, oblivious.

mikeyboss on February 19, 2008 at 11:30 AM

I’ll admit that Pat Robertson has said a few strange things over the years, but this campaign to claim he’s lost his mind is more than a little tad unfair. I’d rather eat dinner with Pat Robertson than anyone in the HuffPo crowd, because Pat would be a more fun and informed conversationalist.

thuja on February 19, 2008 at 11:34 AM

HuffPo is still pissed that Robertson said we should take out a hit on Chavez

jp on February 19, 2008 at 11:37 AM

Robertson is also a Yale Law School graduate, how many at HuffPo are cognizant of this fact? Probably none, too busy watching Big Brother or E! Entertainment-for-the-Moronic Television.

Their second commenter called them on it too, but so far, no correction.

twb (See profile | I’m a fan of twb)
I’m no fan of Pat…but funny thing…I was flipping the channels yesterday and happened to this sequence. He was NOT busting on his producer but rather the comment was in reference to Hugo Chavez. I thought the comments were odd for a completely different reason…that Pat’s producer had some specific knowledge regarding Hugo’s drug usage or that a “Cocoa Paste” was actually cocaine… So…criticize Pat if you must…but do so for the right reasons. He says some nutty things, that’s for sure…but this time, he it was only half nutty…and whoever posted this video should have seen that rather than to get many of the posters here all worked up.

When I listened a second time I caught it. It’s very easy to see that he’s talking about someone else in a video that his producer showed him.

I second fourstringfour. Bravo, sir. Thus far only you and Bryan have made corrections. I will give the others the benefit of the doubt and conclude that they have not seen the correction yet.

srhoades on February 19, 2008 at 1:44 PM

Cocoa? I think he means coca.

But I wonder what Robertson takes for his prophesying about world events.

Tzetzes on February 19, 2008 at 1:47 PM

If you listen carefuly, he said Evo Morales, the leader of Bolivia. Not Hugo Chavez. But hey, that’d be nitpicking, wouldn’t it?

DMeNTe on February 19, 2008 at 2:24 PM

DMeNTe on February 19, 2008 at 2:24 PM

If you had listened closer, you would realize that he IDs Morales as the supplier to his unnamed (in this clip) cokehead. Morales is not the user here, but the pusher.

Also, aren’t there international laws against transporting narcotics? Chavez essentially implicated himself and Morales in drug trafficking. I wonder how much he gets in each care package? I wonder how much time a visitor to Bolivia would get for trying to transport an equal amount out of the country.

Just say “No!” to Hugo.

The Race Card on February 19, 2008 at 3:58 PM

I heard Pat Robertson say “hopped up on coke”. I think I can die now. I’ve seen everything.
PS. Don’t ever believe ANYTHING you read in HuffPo. Ever!
