Delegates at a US-Islamic forum voiced support on Monday for US presidential hopeful Barack Obama, although some warned against expecting any radical policy change irrespective of who captures the White House. Obama won overwhelming support in a mock election by more than 200 American and Muslim delegates at the US-Islamic World Forum in Doha.

His Democratic rival Hillary Clinton and Republican candidates won a handful of votes.

About 280 public figures and academics from 32 countries, including Afghan President Hamid Karzai and the US ambassador to the UN, Zalmay Khalilzad, attended the fifth edition of the forum due to end in Qatar later Monday….

Just thinking out loud, but an equally unprovable and stupid statement would be to say “There are going to be a lot of people crossing over to the Republicans because he’s white.”

I still want to know how one actually gets to determine their ethnicity. Seems like a lot of people do it on the sole basis of skin color. Dr MLK is probably rolling in his grave over that one…

I have a blog for that sort of thing, but I’ll say this: I wouldn’t be a conservative Republican if I thought that it was the party of racists. Actually I don’t think that there is any such thing as the “party of racists”–just two ways of thinking about the relationship between the government and the governed. The racial attitudes of individuals do, however, often have an effect on which party they belong to–sometimes (most of the time?) individuals don’t even consciously recognize how.

It’s a subtle distinction, but there you have it.

Obama will get 99% of the black vote anyway.

How could that be? Only white republicans vote based on race.
