So the latest Circle Of Outrage™ today apparently started on Monday, when Michelle Obama — wife of presidential hopeful Barack Obama — addressed a rally in Milwaukee and said:

What a load of tripe…

Michelle’s words only site a particular instance of pride, in this case that pride engendered by the hope sparked by the Obama campaign. Citing a particular instance of pride, does not imply that pride has never existed in other instances.

Spinning like a Texas twister…

If I say, for example, “For the first time in my life I am proud of my son because he finally pitched a no-hitter,” that does not mean I am not proud of him for other things he has done.

So, if you say, “I am proud because of “A,” that does NOT exclude being proud also because of “B,” “C,” or “D.”

Get it?

If I say I ate an apple for the first time today, that does not mean I have never eaten any fruit at all!

Michelle’s “because…” that follows her statement only cites and explains a particular instance of pride. To infer more is a stretch.
