Video: One last twist?

Here’s that miracle Huckabee keeps talking about, courtesy of one of his web fans. What’s the “last twist,” I wonder? Him and Dobson running off to form their own party if Huck doesn’t make veep?

He’s within single digits in Texas so we may yet have a few more months of Chuck Norris appearances on cable news shows to endure.

If that should happen, with Huck on bass, it’s be the Rock the Jesus Vote.

The Holy Rollers.

He’s just reinforcing his newly minted reputation as a “playah” on the national scene. He’ll be constantly lurking offstage for the next four years, doing a pass rush on any TV camera within sniffing range.

I’ll give it to the Huck… he knows his internet culture. I guess he’s hoping for a Pythgora switch?

Incidentally, Romney still has 38 more delegates than Huck.

Huckashuck building his ego, fighting to the last breath. What a man! Bound to end up on Rushmore.

Huckabee has nothing to gain by getting out and nothing to lose by staying in.

To McCain’s chagrin, he’s not your ‘friend’. Texas will have a LOT of protest votes for Huckabee and McCain’s recent purchase of ‘conservative slipper’s’ that he has put on are being held feet to the fire.

More embarrassment coming, particularly since most conservative Texans are pretty smart and see through his ‘open borders’ staff he continues to defend.

McCain and Huckabee

Insiders close to Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign have put out the word that there is absolutely no chance that his last remaining major opponent for the Republican presidential nomination, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, will become McCain’s vice presidential running mate.

Yeah, well, he did finally help me make up my mind. I would have loved to have voted for Rudy March 4th. Then I switched to Mitt for awhile and was eager to give him a boost.

Then I had McCainitis and thought about maybe lobbing a bomb at either Hillary or Barry by pulling an MKH.

But no, I’m so sick of the Huckster that it’ll be a pleasure to vote for McCain just to shut Gomer’s freakin’ piehole once and for all.

Besides, I’m getting the feeling McCain’s gonna tap Romney for Veep. Think about it from simply the standpoint of what would happen to the Dems if they somehow didn’t carry the bluest state of all. Not a bad deal at all to put it in play.

Throw in Phil Gramm as Secretary of the Treasury and also as Maverick’s economic advisor for the debates, and I’m feeling better about the guy all the time.

bnelson44 on February 16, 2008 at 2:14 PM

Wow.

Well…a political ad that finally was amusing enough to hold my attention to the end…mainly because this “rube” wanted to see to the end of this particular Rube Goldberg Mousetrap’s flow.

I still hate Hucka-bee-nejad for the reasons I’ve stated here waay too many times before, but frankly, have to hand it to him for being the first person among all the candidates this election season to give me an ad that DIDN’T make me want to crumple up a wad of paper into a ball and toss it as hard as I could at the freakin’ screen.

I won’t vote for him but this ad did at least get a little grin outta me.

And at least it didn’t have some cross (err, I mean book shelf) floating behind him to remind you that he’s the only candidate whose back Jesus has got without saying so, and deny that it was a cross (I mean, err, ONLY a book shelf).

Shirotayama on February 16, 2008 at 2:21 PM

I got a feeling that your definition of the GOP is different than mine.

The ‘animosity’ assumes that he upsets a few who want him to concede. While Huckalong cannot possibly win the delegates from here on out, if he wins a few more in the south, McCain cannot get to the threshold either.

The most entertaining part of it, while I have never liked Huckabee, his mere presence forcesMcCain to the right, painfully so.

If McCain’s candidacy was so conservative, then Huckabee would not get the votes he is getting even if he loses. Aaaaaaa, do you think that has occurred to McCain?

Starlink on February 16, 2008 at 2:24 PM

Cute. McCain should get this guy to do spots for him as the Huckster has two chances, Slim and None and Slim left town on the 8am flight to Vegas!

Bubba Redneck on February 16, 2008 at 2:25 PM

Actually, it might not be the best idea to portray the nomination process as arbitrary, random and as if it were a child’s toy in an ad you hope to help you be selected in that process.

In other words, don’t say “this is arbitrary and meaningless, and should I be selected it will be a result of that arbitrary meaninglessness.”

It was also a relatively lame Goldberg machine.

Starlink on February 16, 2008 at 2:24 PM

With Mitt’s delegates, there is no way Huck can stop McCain now. So all Huck is doing is making the presumptive nominee spend time and money fighting another Republican instead of attacking the Democrats. Huck is waisting valuable Republican capital. That is why the GOP will and is turning against Huck right now.

He hasn’t forced McCain to go right. Huckabee himself is a tax-raising nanny-stater. McCain knows damn well he’s got the nomination, so if anything he’ll tack more moderate.

Huck is a preacher and former president of the SBC. Much of the support he has comes from people voting for him because he’s a good “Christian Leader”.

McCain will get to the threshold, it’s just a matter of time.

amerpundit on February 16, 2008 at 2:30 PM

You mean Mike Huckabee is willing to cause as much damage as humanly possible to party apparatus out of petty spite? GTFO!

doubleplusundead on February 16, 2008 at 2:33 PM

So what is Gov Huckabee holding out for? Why is he continuing on despite he will in no way gain the nomination at this point? What does he hope to accomplish with a potential president McCain administration?

There must be some pay off that Gov Huckabee sees in the future by holding out. He won’t have the delegates to barter any position, especially since Gov Romney has dropped out — so what’s the big pay off? Now whether he actually gets the pay off, whatever it is, is a different story, all I’m wondering about is what Gov Huckabee is aiming for by staying in.

On a completely different note, here is a map of the universe of Star Trek. Yes, somebody not working for Paramount Studios made it.

I think it is an ego thing now. He’s getting votes and people are turning out for his rallies, so he stays in.

Perhaps you are right, but I think there is more to it because this is the political world we’re talking about. There is always some quid pro quo at stake in politics, especially true when big egos are involved!

Like you said, maybe the simplest explanation is what is, but I guess I’m just too cynical to believe it.

I think it was Krauthammer that saud Huck is not running against McCain, but against Romney at this point. He just wants to come in a clear 2nd place, so he can become the socially conservative heir to the throne, if McCain doesn’t win in November. He’ll stay in the news for a couple more months, and make his name as the clear leader of religious conservatives in the Republican party. After that, maybe he’ll run for Blanche Lincoln’s Senate seat in 2010, if it looks like he can win, and gear up for a 2012 run at the White House again. Romney will have very little chance to get back into the national political spotlight before then, unless McCain appoints him to a major cabinet position like Secretary of the Treasury, so Huck just might have a shot at grabbing the torch if he does well enough in the remaining states.

Dig that ’60s type-font. Hipsterbee.

Feedie on February 16, 2008 at 3:15 PM

Actually, it is to McCain’s advantage that Huckabee stay in the race. Due to the closeness of the Hillary-Obama race, McCain stands a real chance of getting lost in the shuffle until after the conventions. A little competition between McCain and Huckabee - especially when Huckabee has no chance of actually winning, helps to keep McCain in the news. There is really nothing lost on McCain’s part here, and free media exposure to gain.

The other advantage of keeping Huckabee in the race is that it give disaffected conservatives someone to vote for in the Republican primary, keeping them involved in the political process so that there is a good chance that they will not stay home in the general election.

I think all of the above is why McCain is not going after Huckabee and instead extending platitudes about Huckabee being welcome to stay in the race as long as he wants. I expect McCain knows that free MSM publicity is good for him now, because they are sure going to turn on him in the general.

McCain isn’t going after Huck now because he needs Huck’s supporters in the Fall. But I don’t see where this competition right now is helping McCain any.

bnelson44 on February 16, 2008 at 3:46 PM

Well, that was different, especially for a political ad. Pretty creative.

Where was the “industrial” music that plays in the cartoons when something like this is shown?

Huckabee can go Huck himself. He’s too mean spirited to be president; seems to me moreso than that old coot, McCain.

madmonkphotog on February 16, 2008 at 4:46 PM

Huck’s alright, still waiting for the endorsement.

Should be pretty good with some humor.

tballard on February 16, 2008 at 3:19 PM

This is exactly right. The media would have absolutely ZERO reason to talk about McCain if Huckabee dropped out.

And all you people here talking about he’ll get the ‘animosity of the GOP’ for staying in the race, I doubt he’ll be sent roses if/when he gets out either. He’s been facing the ‘animosity of the GOP’ since he won Iowa.

Why should he quit? He won lots of contests last week and he has nothing else to do. He has already gotten millions of people to vote for him.

I don’t think he expects or wants a VP position. I don’t think he wants anything. He’s campaigning and the campaign isn’t over yet. He has plenty of supporters who would be just as disappointed if he quit as you people here are disgusted that he won’t quit.

McCain used a cross too, but he’s not derided as ‘Satan’. I don’t much like the tone of this blog and its commenters anymore.

No way Romney gets the VP spot either. As for the commenter who keeps on losing but finally says he’ll be proud to vote for McCain against Huckabee - it’s great you finally get a victory out of all of your defeats (ruDe, Romney, now just anti-Huck = victory for you). I’ll bet that 2 months ago that attitude would have been determined a win by the Huckabee camp.

For the record, Huckabee has ruled out a 3rd party run

So has Dobson & everybody else. I don’t know why AP would speculate like that, other than trying to stir up more anger against conservative Christians.
