That’s one explanation. Perhaps the Mossad (at least I like to think it was) was able to flip someone close to the rat bastard. Syria is infamous for poor security. Perhaps Jordanian and Israeli agent worked together. Damn! This would make a great movie.

Great point, Andy. Mossad’s flipped people before and Israel does manage to work with Jordan on the odd occasion.

I don’t buy the conspiracy theory that Iran offed the guy. He’s simply too valuable as a tactician and strategist for them to be willing to do without him.

If Iran or Syria intended to create an incident as pretext for an all-out attack on Israel, there were dozens of other options. Getting rid of a legend like Mughniyeh would have handicapped their war effort considerably.

The simplest explanation is probably the best one: the Mossad is up to its old badass tricks again. More power to them.

My more skeptical thought is that whoever actually did it is already back home (home starts with an “I”) and the Palestinians were just the poor schmucks arrested to save Syrian face.

Nicely done. A surgical car bomb would be tough to pull off. Shin Bet has some real pros and I’m glad to see it revived. The bad guys will be looking under every bed and in every closet for the inside helper, unless they are the culprits. Sowing paranoia amongst the sociopaths is a delightful thing to watch.

Hmm, the plot thickens. The Palestinians did it (allegedly)? But I thought that all the Arabs were united in their determination to give the Palestinians a state, blah, blah, blah, whatevs.
