Video: “Frontline: Haditha”

Tuesday night at 9 p.m. on PBS or your local web browser. I’m intrigued, and not just because the show’s publicist is e-mailing righty bloggers to promote it. With each new court-martial the “massacre” narrative crumbles a bit more, most notably in the investigating officer’s argument for dropping the charges against Lance Cpl. Stephen Tatum. Read that in the update to this post if you haven’t before. The nutshell version: Marines aren’t cops. The counterargument: In Iraq, they sort of are. Hence the persistent confusion over the Corps’ rules of engagement as a war dissolves into a peacekeeping/counterinsurgency mission. That’s the real story of Haditha, not Murtha’s nutroots fairy tale of rampaging Marines driven mad by long tours. Per the press release at the show’s website, “Frontline” seems to get that — emphasis on “seems.” We’ll see Tuesday.

Notice you don’t see Murtha on TV much anymore

Hesitation is a killer and they all know that. But the fact that they are willing to take a sencond thought and think it’s worth it only should wake people up that they are not mindless killers.

But of course Code Pink and the like only care about their own prejudiced views. It’s like they didn’t get to joint in the fun during the 60’s or they miss it, so they are wanting the military to be evil so they can feel good about themselves. Why not act againts CAIR and the jihadis? The jihadis will fire back.

If they report fairly and truthfully I will say well done and if they slant the story I will never watch the show again

Doubtful. That PBS could be anything other than a hyper-partisan mouthpiece for leftist shibboleths is pretty much an absurd thought. When journalists get out of j-school ready to “change the world,” the thoroughgoing socialists go to PBS.

I still have a few “Uncle Sam’s Misguided Children” tee shirts. How’s THAT for a band name?

Murtha is busy handing out pork to his district and unavailable for comment

The ROE issue is a knotty one, however it ultimately comes down to our CiC. He has consistently delivered inconsistency with his rhetoric. Are we in a war or not? And, how many of guys’ lives is compassionate PC worth? That is weighed against the efficiency of reaching our goal which is more easily attained if the Iraqis don’t hate us and help with identifying bad guys. I’m afraid we’ve lost many lives in the process of trying to make them like us.

Hesitation is not a bad thing? I understand why a 1st LT. would say that on camera, but in my mind, as a trained soldier and serving in a warzone, hesitation could be my downfall. I think using restraint would be a better description. I may be overly semantic.

PBS latte lapping pencil necks are soo concerned about the US Marines.

Savage and his listeners have raised over $200,000 toward the defense fund of Colonel Chessani.

Let’s get these heroes free. It’s absurd to ask them to work as police officers in hostile territory and then to take the enemy’s version of events as official record. It’s a damn disgrace. They deserve far better. I’m skeptical, to say the least, that this will be an unbiased show.

PBS can not help itself, but someone should.
It’s our tax money without representation.

From the wesbsite; ‘…what many in the media branded “Iraq’s My Lai.”’

No, you MSM muttonheads, it actually was “Your Lai” about Marines!

I’ll be watching this, to see how “even-handed” PBS can be. I’m not optimistic…

dmh0667 on February 15, 2008 at 2:11 PM

I can’t imagine that PBS could present any story in an unbiased way, heavily weighted to the left. Anymore than NPR can. But I, too, will watch and see. One never knows, they could just surprise the hell out of me. I doubt it seriously, but it could happen.

If the Left wants police who don’t do anything, maybe they can get some volunteers from the Berkeley P.D.?

Super Heroes

lots of responsibility.

I’ve NEVER seen PBS be fair or objective. I think they know the lefties will just watch an attack on our troops and say, “Everybody knows they’re rapists and murders, ho hum.” But if they get a gigantic out cry from conservative bloggers they’ll get much more MSM ink and air time. And Pelosi and Reid will give them more money.
