Superdelegate (It’s Not Easy)
The Ventilators
Lyrics, piano, and Hillary impersonation: Michelle Malkin
Video production: Bryan Preston

I can’t stand to lose
I’m not going to quit
If Democrats don’t choose
Me, Bill will throw a fit

I’m more than Barack, I’m the real change
More than some pretty face and funny name
It’s not easy to be me

Think I’ll have a cry
Right up here on stage
You know it’s a lie
‘Cuz I’m really full of rage

It may sound absurd, but I’ve got to believe
I am going to retake the lead
I’m falling behind but I will not concede
Even Clintons have the right to dream
It’s not easy to be me

Obama’s pulling away…away from me
And it’s not right…gotta fly to Texas tonight
And win Ohio…Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Hawaii, Wyoming, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, West Virginia, Kentucky, Oregon, Montana, South Dakota. …and Wisconsin…

I can’t stand to lose
I’m not going to quit
I am going to bribe
The superdelegates

I’m more than Barack, I’m the real change
More than some pretty face and funny name
I’m only a gal in a crusty pants suit
Looking for Democrats who’ll vote for me…Vote for Hillary –ee Vote for Hillary

I’m only a gal with a bogus tear streak
Only a gal who is gonna be beat
I’ll be your Barack, please, please, please elect me.
It’s not easy, oh..oh..oh
It’s not easy to be me..

That was hillarious. Thanks for that. I needed a good laugh. You should have done it in your cheerleader outfit, for added effect.

Excellent… all I can say…

stillaneocon on February 15, 2008 at 9:55 AM

How appropriate is it that Wisconsin gets last billing? That’s exactly what Hillary has given the state.

Mind if I “borrow” this as the official theme song of the “NRE Spring Hill” campaign?

steveegg on February 15, 2008 at 9:58 AM

Michelle on February 15, 2008 at 9:53 AM

The crusty pants suit line was the funniest one, I thought.

p40tiger on February 15, 2008 at 10:02 AM

No, I was wearing a crusty pants suit.

I didn’t think you owned one of those.

If you could handle the Witness Protection Program Bryan would have to put him in,….

steveegg on February 15, 2008 at 10:14 AM

Fabulous! I like it better when we can see Michelle and Bryon perform, though. We needed some levity today for sure.

ctmom on February 15, 2008 at 10:15 AM

What does Hillary mean when she says “I have so many opportunities FROM this country”. Doesn’t she mean she has “so many opportunities FOR this country”?

ctmom on February 15, 2008 at 10:16 AM

Right after the state roll call would have been an excellent place to insert a patented Dean Arrrgghhh! and maybe a Shillary cackle.

Annar on February 15, 2008 at 10:16 AM

High-Larious!

p40tiger

Or Hillary-ous, even.

I’m not familiar with the original song. I would have suggested using It’s So Easy by Buddy Holly, later covered by Linda Ronstadt.

No, I was wearing a crusty pants suit.

Michelle

A way to get into the mood, I guess.

I think you should have Allah sing the next one.

Zetterson

I second the motion. Since we’re not allowed to see him, at least he could permit us to hear him.

Bigfoot on February 15, 2008 at 10:25 AM

A man and a woman were sitting, listening to Michelle’s song.
The man was crying, and the woman said, “You poor dear-are you emotional?”
And the man said, “No, ma’am…I’m musical!”
I know-old joke.
I’m looking forward to the day when: “Failed Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton” comes into common use. Thats the way Mondale is introduced now, as someone who once ran for the highest office. Gary Hart, Bob Dole, John Kerry…

Doug on February 15, 2008 at 10:42 AM

Thanks Michelle for putting yourself out there for our entertainment.

Very funny :)

Excellent… Spot on and humorous to boot!

Thanks for the laugh.

Nineball on February 15, 2008 at 11:12 AM

Great Vent Michelle and Bryan! Excellent! Friday light makes a roaring comeback!

And the humor is in the truth of the lyrics. Thanks.

Zorro on February 15, 2008 at 11:15 AM

I couldn’t tell if Michelle was feigning a teary voice or trying to keep from laughing, which I found as funny as the musical-take on Hillaries campaign performance.
Thanks for the laugh at the expense of your Grammy.

christophercube on February 15, 2008 at 11:15 AM

Here is a song for Bill to sing to Hillary on the morning after Barack Obama clinches the nomination:

It is the Commodores “Easy on Sunday Morning” and we don’t even need to change the lyrics:

“Know it sounds funny but I just can’t stand the pain
Girl I’m leaving you tomorrow.
Seems to me girl you know I’ve done all I can.
You see I’ve begged, stole and borrowed

And I’m leaving you tomorrow”

Larraby on February 15, 2008 at 11:18 AM

What does Hillary mean when she says “I have so many opportunities FROM this country”. Doesn’t she mean she has “so many opportunities FOR this country”?

ctmom on February 15, 2008 at 10:16 AM

I think she meant exactly what she said. It is all about her after all.

CliffHanger on February 15, 2008 at 12:34 PM

Funny. Michelle’s got some piano skillz. I’m not sure John Ondrasik would be thrilled with the vocal, though. ;)

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on February 15, 2008 at 2:22 PM

Very funny. Unfortunately, we know it wasn’t really Hillary singing because we have heard her sing. Michelle sings WAY better than Hillary! Where’s the national anthem clip??

I loved the pictures, too, Bryan. There sure are a lot of pictures floating around of her giving Obama dirty looks! The one where her eyes are just peeking over his shoulder is priceless!

TX Mom on February 15, 2008 at 2:23 PM

I’m sorry but that was painful.

The lyrics were great but, much as I like her views and writing, you have to keep Michelle away from the mike.

I may have nightmares about meeting her in a karaoke club.

OBQuiet on February 15, 2008 at 2:23 PM

That was GREAT! All the ladies in my office heard this playing on my pc, and came running and laughing, even our resident Dem. There is just too much humorous material surrounding Hill. This morning on the way to work I was listening to Walton and Johnson (a local radio show) and they did a parody to the 80′s disco song, ‘You dropped a bomb on me’ with Pantsuit singing the lyrics “They dropped Obama on me”, it was priceless.

Too funny, wonder how long she stays in if she loses Ohio or Texas?

koolbrease on February 15, 2008 at 4:21 PM

How long before we say “Hillary Who?”

AverageJoe on February 15, 2008 at 4:40 PM

Please hold your nose and vote for Hillary
If she looses she’ll make my life Hell
It’ll feel like I’m in the penitentiary
With no more influence to sell

All the stuff she’ll blame on me
Will have me feeling like I’m hanging from a tree
So if you have any sympathy
Vote for her and set me free
- Bill C.

Michelle on February 15, 2008 at 3:13 PM

I doubt that Hillary could sing with such honesty and passion.

Extremely charming vocal, Michelle. Nice keyboard work, too. Yay for more Michelle tunes!

RushBaby on February 15, 2008 at 6:20 PM

This is made of win! Michelle, please sing more often!

madame_bluetooth on February 15, 2008 at 6:33 PM

It wasn’t me. It was Hillary!

Michelle on February 15, 2008 at 3:13 PM

Come on Michelle, I love ya, but that was either bad singing or a bad impression. I mean come on, if you were purposely trying to mimic Hillary, you didn’t have nearly the level of shrillness or crige-worthiness.

BKennedy on February 15, 2008 at 6:39 PM

I haven’t laughed this hard since the Amanda Marcotte series you did this time last year! Thanks Michelle. By the way, my home town of Tyler, Texas didn’t feel right when I woke up this morning and I couldn’t figure out what it was. Then I read the headlines…Bill Clinton stopped by.

Joshua P. Allem on February 15, 2008 at 6:55 PM

OMG…I needed this laugh! Thanks Michelle and Bryan. Michelle, your out of tune singing was a brilliant metaphor for her campaign.

SouthernGent on February 15, 2008 at 8:06 PM

Hilarious and genius all in one fell swoop…

We need to see more Vents!! Cmon guys!!

AprilOrit on February 15, 2008 at 9:31 PM

AprilOrit on February 15, 2008 at 9:42 PM

Was that Celine Dion singing..?

CliffHanger on February 15, 2008 at 12:34 PM

She has a song called “My Campaign Will Go On”

Near…., far…, wherever you are,
I believe that I won…

The music video has scenes of superdelegates leaving a sinking ship.

AprilOrit on February 15, 2008 at 9:42 PM

Eh. I just didn’t get it. Hillary has a much huskier voice, and can’t sing worth anything to begin with. I’m not sure if the straining was intentional on some of the lines, but other lines were sung perfectly in key.

Michelle really does have a wonderful singing voice, but it’s tough to sing an impression. Especially an impression of a woman who a) can’t sing and b) when she speaks normally, it sound like nails on the blackboard.

It’s like trying to do an intelligent Ray Nagin impression. You can’t do it because there has never been a moment where Ray Nagin was intelligent. Same thing with trying to sing as Hillary. You can’t sing the impression of a person whose singing is so horrifically bad that no one has ever heard it and remembered it for more than the time their ears were ringing.

BKennedy on February 16, 2008 at 12:37 AM

Can’t fool me. That’s not Michelle – it’s Celine Dion.

Halley on February 16, 2008 at 2:51 AM

Honestly the singing was bad eheheh, but my wife and I loved it….
ENCORE, ENCORE, ENCORE we must have an ENCORE.
LOVE YOU MM

dako on February 16, 2008 at 6:08 AM

Wow!

Was that singer the young girl who sang as Christine in the Andrew Lloyd Webber stage and film musical “Phantom of the Opera?”

I wouldn’t cry for Hillary in her campaign. I would cry for we US citizens who have such a depressing, downright awful presidential “choice” this coming election.

We could have just sworn in a cat, a dog, a shark, or an alligator and gotten the same result!

I like your improvisation so I corrected your 3rd stanza to read as sung.

Ahh the vents… how I love them so..

Doogiesd on February 16, 2008 at 8:42 PM

Good grief, can we please stop analyzing the vocal performance and just enjoy the song?

No, I was wearing a crusty pants suit.

Michelle on February 15, 2008 at 9:53 AM

I didn’t think you owned one of those.

steveegg on February 15, 2008 at 10:04 AM

If the Salvation Army store is good enough for Hillary, it should be good enough for a Hillary impression.

James on February 17, 2008 at 8:01 AM

The tears need to be analyzed for DNA to insure it is really her, and whether they will pollute.

Also, those pants suits can not be let out much longer which gives credence to the statement that it is tough to watch a girl grow old so fat (oops fast).

What is going to come after ‘Superdelegate’ when Hitlery does not show any improvement in the polls, Gustopodelegate?

MSGTAS on February 17, 2008 at 8:19 AM

if her blackmailed buddies pull off the Superdelegate move…look out…
