Democrat Senator blocks new move to pass Semper Fi Act

I linked the raw form of this video yesterday. It’s the Berkeley Code Pinkos blocking the door to the USMC recruiting station while the police stand aside and do nothing about it. The RNCC has taken that video and turned it into a suitably outraged campaign ad.

I imagine that there will be “not all Democrats support this” blowback, but the fact is that Sen. Harry Reid used sly maneuvers to block the Semper Fi Act and now some Democrat senator has placed an anonymous hold on that bill. That’s a disgrace. The Democrats in the Senate are on the record siding with the protesters and Berkeley city council against the Marines. That’s a disgrace. The Berkeley city council attempted a backdown but didn’t apologize and many on the council and in the city continue to spew hate at the Marines. That’s a disgrace. It doesn’t matter what Harry Reid says to the contrary: He is helping the extremists make Berkeley a less welcoming place for the US Marines than some parts of Iraq’s Anbar province. That’s just a fact. And a disgrace.

Neither of the Democrat presidential candidates have weighed in. They ought to.

There has been some Semper Fi Act action on the Hill today. Sen. Jim DeMint offered the act as an amendment to the Indian Health Care bill. Says my source on the Hill:

JD is on the Senate Floor right now offering Semper Fi as an amendment to the Indian Health Care bill. He’s going around the secret hold and trying to force a vote before we recess this weekend…

But:

Bingaman just blocked Semper Fi. DeMint offered Semper Fi as a second degree to Bingaman’s amendment that was first in line to the Indian Health Care bill (this would ensure that Semper Fi was the first vote today). Instead of voting to support the Marines, Bingaman just withdrew his amendment so no Democrats would have to decide between Marines and Code Pink.

That would be Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-NM). It’s ironic in light of today’s action that Sen. Bingaman prominently touts his work on behalf of veterans. If you’re interested in contacting Sen. Bingaman, here’s how.

if the republicans had any principles and any balls they’d shout about this until their blue in the face to every news-outlet, newspaper and blog. They’d rail against it on the record in the Congress and make it a campaign issue.

Will they do that? Probably not

And not all Nazis agreed with Hitler either. Standing by and doing nothing is just as bad as standing up for Code Pink and the Berkley earmarks. Where are all the Republicans protesting Reid’s sleazy tactics?

Senator McCain? Why the Hell aren’t you out in front of this issue? Too many of your damned precious delegates come from Berkley for you to show a spine for once in your miserable political career?

I emailed both of my Sentors but don’t expect them to do anything since it’s Boxer and Feinstein. As for the MSM making this anything important I wouldn’t count on them to do anything intelligent and side with the Marines. I’m slowly starting to hate the state I was born in.

limowilliam on February 14, 2008 at 12:40 PM

Actually, this is good news in a way. All Senator DeMint has to do is offer this as an amendment to any bill conservatives don’t like. The Dem’s will withdraw the bill rather than be forced to vote. Senator DeMint could singlehandedly stop any bad bill in the Senate!

Maybe I am wrong but shouldn’t the protesters putting their hands on people like that be considered assault?

Just imagine John Wayne and some of his usual assortment of pals marching down the street singing the Marine Corps hymn, turning into a good Irish brawling jig, and them clearing that doorway. Orange jump suits flying through the air, and black hoods littering the streets. The women (?) would wind up dumped in some sort of water since John Wayne and his pals save their fists for the men (or them that’s posing as such).

They just don’t make patriotic scenes like that in the movies anymore, so I thought I would share since I grew up with them, and was lovin’ it.

Hening on February 14, 2008 at 12:57 PM

Don’t they call Marines baby-killers? That puts the code pinkos in clear violation of the laws that protect abortion factories.

It reminds me of the stupid protests they did back when people were laying down in the streets, blocking traffic. It didn’t happen where I was, but I kept wondering if they would continue doing it if people started getting run over.

TASER THEM, BRO!

Yes, it is assault.

My absolute fav! I don’t own the DVD, but I should. I have to watch it whenever its on AMC or Turner Classic. Great story. You don’t see that everyday.

I guess it really sums up the American experience. We want to be left alone to live our lives, earn a living and raise our children. We only fight when necessary….

We should all ask that the City Councel of Berkeley STEP DOWN!

We should email/call every single Republican and make them either 1. vote for this or 2. hope they like where they are and vote someone else who will do the “Peoples” bidding.

Berkeley City Councel

Why not make them squirm!

I tell you what, I’d grab that old hippy by the collar and throw him into the street. The Berkley Police Department make me ashamed to be a police officer — I never thought I’d ever feel that way.

srhoades on February 14, 2008 at 1:12 PM

When the Klan decides to “lynch a n****r”, and Sheriff Billy-Bob and his deputies look the other way, we consider that nearly equivalent to tying the noose around his neck themselves. But when leftists violate the law, and the cops stand by and allow it, (union workers throwing rocks at “scabs”, black ministers painting over billboards trying to sell liquor to “the community”, antiwar protestors blocking access to the door of the recruiting office), nobody makes that link.

It’s a damn good thing I don’t live in Berzerkley, because I’d probably be in jail for throwing some protestors down the sidewalk a few yards.

The Monster on February 14, 2008 at 1:14 PM

We love The Quiet Man. My husband calls me “woman of the house” and we usually watch the movie on our anniversay (which is today – our 15th!) But if you’re looking for a patriotic flick – you absolutely cannot beat Stage Door Canteen. Hollywood was a very different place back then.

If anyone is contact their Senators about this, please post the results here, because I’m tracking who is refusing to deny that they did it. And because the new favorite response seems to be, “We can’t tell you because it’s supposed to be anonymous,” please phrase the question like this:
Will you deny, for the record, that Senator X placed the hold?

And if you want to have some fun, when they give you the “anonymous” response, ask them why they care more about a sneaky Senate tradition than supporting the troops. Guaranteed to make them froth at the mouth. :-)

Laura on February 14, 2008 at 1:18 PM

“Those who live in glass houses”…blah blah blah. The conservatives\Rebulicans arent speaking up because the majority, if not all, are not principled. The are afraid they will be called to task for any of their multiple of past\current\future indiscretions. Throw em all out and lets start over.

Blah.

I just called Mr. Bingaman’s office (and admitted I was calling from Indianapolis a politely voiced my out rage.

The young lady listened patiently and assured me …

I explained that I have a grandson in the Marines in Iraq and didn’t take kindly to California morons sneering at him.

Based on the responce I got I think he’ll support the bill, ultimately, just not as a rider to his own.

If you’re out of state as I am: 202.224.5521 but be gentle, the gal I spoke with was decent.

Onager on February 14, 2008 at 1:23 PM

The Senators refuse to deny placing the hold:
New York – Hillary Rodham Clinton
Louisiana – Mary Landrieu
California – Barbara Boxer
Maryland – Barbara Mikulski
Maryland – Ben Cardin
Massachusetts -John Kerry
Massachusetts – Ted Kennedy
Washington – Patty Murray
California – Dianne Feinstein
Vermont – Patrick Leahy
Minnesota – Amy Klobuchar
Washington – Maria Cantwell
West Virginia – Robert Byrd
Wisconsin – Russ Feingold
Missouri – Claire McCaskill
Illinois – Barack Obama
Illinois – Dick Durbin
Nebraska – Chuck Hagel
Connecticut – Chris Dodd
New Jersey – Bob Menendez
Iowa – Tom Harkin

If you’re a constituent, you might want to call and ask why they’re not cosponsoring it, and try again to get them on the record denying it. If we put enough pressure on them – like last time – we can do this.

Laura on February 14, 2008 at 1:28 PM

The list of Senators not contacted yet is a good deal longer and I won’t want to post it, but if you don’t see your Senator in the “refused” list, and if they are not any of these –
Mel Martinez
Saxby Chambliss
Mitch McConnell
David Vitter
Kit Bond
Ben Nelson
Richard Burr
Jim Inhofe
Tom Coburn
Jim DeMint
John Cornyn

then please call them and post the results here.

This behavior WOULD NOT have been tolerated if it were Pro-Life demonstrators in front of an abortion clinic. How ridiculous that these demonstrators, the police officers, and the government agencies involved dare to call themselves Americans.

A shameful display.

Y’all don’t get it, do you?

How long has it been official that the Left is above the Law?

Cold Cash Jefferson, Feinstein and her Billionaire Club, heck, even Teddy the Swimmer. Leftists have been attacking people at “peace rallies” for decades, this is just an exceptionally obvious case.

The left can’t be trusted with power, because this is how they use it – corruptly, every time.

As far as punishing Berkeley, good luck with that. Seriously, I’d love to see the city that won’t pay even the tiniest price for freedom having their taxpayer-funded goodies yanked out from under them. I just don’t see a majority Dem Congress punishing anyone to the left of Lieberman. For anything.

Oh Ye of Little Faith!

Did you read what they earmarked for the funds at Berkeley? I don’t know about you but I would LOVE an Organic school lunch!

And it isn’t people in Berkeley, it is also Toledo, San Fran, Miami, Seattle…. need I go on? Dem’s all over the nation are watching this carefully. Because they may be the “next” to lose their Federal funding due to out of control demo jerks! Toledo City Councel knew this and made the mayor look like a idiot to the City of Toledo… and GOOD for the City Councel of Toledo.

Maybe you should stop whining and call a Senator! Support our Soldiers. Get made at the Demo’s, not us!

We (blog readers and bloggers) were able as a group to bring pressure to bear to out Ted Stevens for blocking the pork database, and to get the legislation passed. That database exists today, a great tool with which to bludgeon our Congresscritters when they need it.

They’re not going to give us transparency, ever. We have to take it forcibly, and the one thing these cockroaches can’t stand is light. Shine it on them by demanding that they go on the record on S.2596.

Laura on February 14, 2008 at 2:04 PM

Enough is enough!
This is beyond disgrace, time to call these people and those that enable this conduct what they truely are; enemies of the United States! This should not be viewed as a test of Constitutional interpretation, local jurisdiction or any other such altruistic exercsie. This action is a direct assualt on the core principle of democracy, majority rule. Yet again the decent law abiding, fair play majority will be tossed to the gutter in favor of political correctness pandering (in the form of inaction) to those that harbour facist perspectives and act as such. Look at the despicable conduct of the vast majority of Democrates in both houses this week, FISA…more theory, CIA interrigation techniques….more theory, Pelosi on Iraq…defeat, the list goes on and on! Why must we question their patriotism? They can not define the word anymore, never mind act accordingly! This is the sad reality we face, the sooner we understand this the sooner we can prepare.

dmann on February 14, 2008 at 2:06 PM

This really is outrageous. These Code Pinko people are committing crimes (assault = any unauthorized touching of another person; and obstructing public access to a public building during business hours, among others) and the police just stand there watching the crimes and refuse to intervene because they want to be neutral.

It’s not your job to be neutral, dimwit. Your job is to arrest lawbreakers. Do your damn job.

Boxer is on CSPAN2 showing pics of crippled people, traffic and students that the mean, eeeevil Rethuglicans are stopping Berkeley from dealing with because we hate free speech. And Berkeley took it back so you should leave them alone, you big bullies!!

How I would love five minutes of that woman’s undivided attention to tell her what I think.

Credit where it’s due – she’s showing earmarks from the cosponsors of the bill similar to the ones they’re trying to divert funding from Berkely to the Marines for. Clever.

Beserkly still applies. It is amazing how mindless liberals survive behind the walls of Berserkly academia and are considered the authority for the majority of the population.

Berserkly, is a perfect example of anarchy inaction.

If you’ve every been to Berserkly, it is a very small group of people who maintain control over minorities claiming “we are doing this for your own good”. They keep the minorities down on the farm while they keep propping themselves up as the righteous rulers of the city.

Supporters of these nutroots, such as Sen. Jeff Bingamam, definitely show they are truly in need of a good support group because they have lost touch with reality.
